I'm sorry, am I misreading something here in your interpretation?

Didn't two Republicans lose their seats?

But it was A Dem failure?

Interesting spin.

Fall short as in not achieve expectation or hopes.

Of course, to fully understand how high those hopes were, one would have to remove their head from their partisan ass.

It's not possible to see anything with even a modicum of objectivity when one is staring through shit of their own making.

Then again, you could just look up yahoo news last night and this morning. The Rather-esque flavor of it is fairly clear.

I think you might want to first concern yourself with your own partisanship.

But I'm absolutely sure you are about to tell me you are an Independent.

It's completely amazing how many non-partisan conservative Republican Independents we have here any more.

Must be drinking a lot of tea.

Sanity -> RE: Dems fall short in Wisconsin (8/10/2011 7:21:59 AM)

Obama only promised you change

Did you not read the fine print?

Obamas idea of "change" involved turning Moderates and Independents against the Dems. [;)]

The democrats goal was to retake control of the state senate. That didn't happen. No spin, just a fact.

Yeah well, lol, last Nov.,your goal was to take the house of Reps. and Senate.

And though you didn`t and now only controlled 1/3 of the government, you guys spun it as a republican win.So eat it.

I guess that means we won the last mid-term election.[:D] Thanks

This wasn`t a regular election cycle, with terms ending, coming up for grabs anyway. This was a recall and you lost two.

These were 6 seats you guys already owned. This wasn`t the next paycheck cycle, this was found money.

Now the governor has less leverage and more opposition.

Had all 6 seats remained in republicans hands, that would have been bad news for unions and the democrats.

Next election,a presidential election, will be where everyone turns out,not just the base.

Then we`ll see.

Ask the two unemployed Republicans if anything's changed...

mnottertail -> RE: Dems fall short in Wisconsin (8/10/2011 12:41:01 PM)

What would have happened had they fell long?

Sanity -> RE: Dems fall short in Wisconsin (8/10/2011 12:47:02 PM)

You have any idea how much in union dues it cost the far left to gain those two seats

And yet massively fail to win control of the Wisconsin state Senate?

Just think of what would have happened if they hadnt paid those union dues, they would have been working for less than minimum wage.

Kathy Nicholas didn't find 7000 votes. Thet were counted but were left off of the Brookfield count in error. Those votes were always there. Next Tuesday, the 16th, 2 democrats will have their recall elections. If they would both lose this whole thing will be a wash.

Nope, she didnt find those votes.  She screwed up in counting 14,315.  And that wasnt her first problem with elections.  She refused to comply with audits.  She kept all passwords secret.

I would believe anyone would wish for an accurate count in every election with voting being above board.

Or do you wish politicians to be elected in secret, servant?

Taking control of the house by winning all six races would have been a complete win.

Winning two of the seats is still a win for dems.

Then of course there was all the cheating the cons did, which is reminiscent of Florida 2000.

Republicans lost two seats in a recall election.

That can`t be spun as a con win.

14 months from now is another election, this and the recent NY state special election(which cons lost) doesn`t bowed well for cons.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York's_26th_congressional_district_special_election,_2011

That was a long time "safe" seat, held by cons for decades and was won by a liberal who campaigned against messing with medicare and SS benefits.

http://www.examiner.com/political-buzz-in-new-york/wisconsin-recall-election-shows-pendulum-is-swinging-back-to-the-democrats

"Wisconsin recall election shows pendulum is swinging back to the Democrats"

"Four Republicans dodged a bullet last night as voters turned out in the thousands to vote in a special state senate recall election for six senate seats. However, two Republicans lost and losing 1/3 of your state senate seats when all the districts represented in the recall were Republican was a huge loss for Governor Scott Walker."

Folks shouldn`d wait for the sanitizer and his ilk to admit defeat on any issue.

Even if all 6 seats were lost, they`s still be in denile.

Actually, owner, how I see it is in terms of my own thinking. Like I said, I'm on both sides of this issue. Prior to a union job, our household income was squat. At the same time, I've seen with my own eyes how unions can and sometimes do destroy a work ethic at the expense of everyone else. So yeah, if I'd been voting, I'd have had a lot to think about.

I think that's what this outcome represents. I didn't say the effort was a failure. I said, dems fall short as in did not achieve the aim of the millions of dollars that poured into the contest, nor was the outcome representative of hopes behind instituting a drive for recall in the first place The people who did so certainly did not hope or want to end up with Republicans still in control.

I also posted all those links to point out the fact that it wasn't some vast right wing conspiracy to downplay the results. Even msnbc ran a "fell short" lead.

What I find odd in terms of partisan politics is that this effort would most likely have never gotten off the ground without outside influence and outside dollars, which apparently is ok with dems as long as it helps their cause, but is shitty and indicative of a corrupt structure against which we must unite if it helps the other side.

The fact of the matter is, cuts must come from somewhere and making them is going to be painful. It is also a fact that unions traditionally line up behind democrats, and many saw it as a direct attack on the democratic party. Maybe it was, but another fact in this debacle is that despite millions pouring in from out of state to influence votes, a plurality of state voters opted to stay with the party in charge.

Stay tuned. Next Tuesday 2 democrats are up for their own recall elections. One is likely to be replaced by a republican. The other is to close to call.

I'm more concerned about the inability to audit the process after the votes are cast. Fraud at the polling place is a non-issue. Keep in mind, I'm in New York, and we verify every voter's registration before they're entered into the rolls AND verify their SIGNATURE before they vote, so I suppose other jurisdictions who have their heads up their ass might have problems, but it's nothing they can't fix if they pass the proper legislation and actually do their fucking jobs.

kat321 -> RE: Dems fall short in Wisconsin (8/10/2011 5:11:32 PM)

What is more interesting is the percentages.  Even the GOP wins show a decrease is support from 2010, with three of the elections falling in the 52%-48% margin- and these were GOP winners by ten points or more last fall.  There is a signal there.

I am worried by two things... the partisanship (I don't think winners from either party are going to represent all of their constituents as opposed to who voted for them) and the outside money paid by outside organizations of both flavors (Americans for Prosperity is not by any stretch of the imagination a dem-related organization....)

Spin ? The repubs have been 'spinning' the house for almost a year when they didn't take the senate. 6 - 2 equals 4 means the repubs do not keep the majority they had and required to pass those recent controversial laws. I call that a dem victory.

kat321 -> RE: Dems fall short in Wisconsin (8/10/2011 5:29:03 PM)

The dems in WI do not have the majority.  They needed at least three seats (and not to lose any in the three dem recalls, one held a few weeks ago and two coming up).  They only ended up with two.  They still do not have the ability to block legislation- or in this state's current political climate- bring anything up for discussion in chambers.

I am behind that 100%.  As well as not preventing anyone who is legally able to vote from not voting.  I also believe that every vote should be counted without fail.

Have any other questions for me?

servantforuse -> RE: Dems fall short in Wisconsin (8/10/2011 6:29:49 PM)

Who is preventing anyone from voting ?

tazzygirl -> RE: Dems fall short in Wisconsin (8/10/2011 6:45:48 PM)

Currently I hope no one.  In the past, many.  When you forget the past, it tends to repeat itself.

Quit looking to start shit with me, servant.

I disagree with the signal you see.

2010 was a presidential election and so more people voted.

It is known that not as many people show up for other elections. It could very well be that some of those who voted republican in the 2010 election did not bother voting. It could also show that additional democrats registered and voted for this election.

You could be correct as well.
