Sanity -> Govt Gunrunners Block Family Testimony (8/12/2011 8:00:45 AM)

Odd twist in this ongoing story

The Obama administration was selling guns to Mexican drug lords

An American agent was killed with one of said guns

Now at the trial of the man who bought the gun that was used the Obama administration (the most transparent administration EVAR) is taking an unheard of step -

quote:

U.S. Attorney's Office Rejects Family of Murdered Border Patrol Agent as Crime Victims

In a surprise move in a controversial case, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Arizona is opposing a routine motion by the family of murdered Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry to qualify as crime victims in the eyes of the court.

The family asked to intervene as victims in the case against Jamie Avila, the 23-year-old Phoenix man who purchased the guns allegedly used to kill Terry. Such motions are routinely approved by prosecutors, but may be opposed by defense attorneys.

Agent Brian A. Terry, 40, was killed on Dec. 14 near Rio Rico, Ariz., according to a statement released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials. (FNC)

However in this case, U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke argues because the family was not "directly or proximately harmed" by the illegal purchase of the murder weapon, it does not meet the definition of "crime victim" in the Avila case. Burke claims the victim of the Avila's gun purchases, "is not any particular person, but society in general."

Prominent litigator and the former U.S. Attorney in Florida, Kendall Coffey disagrees.

"The government apparently is saying they're not victims, even though it was a federal crime that put the murder weapon in the hands of the killer of Brian Terry," says Coffey. "They are simply rights of respect, rights of communication and the right to be heard."

Coffey and others wonder if Burke has a conflict. It was his office that led Operation Fast and Furious. The operation, while executed by agents for the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, was managed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Emory Hurley. Hurley drafted the response to the family's motion. It was signed by Burke.

Congressional investigators are expected to subpoena both to appear before the House Government and Oversight Committee next month to answer questions about the flawed operation that put some 2,000 weapons in the hands of the Sinaloa cartel.

The problem with modern law and order, it is so politicized, we just watch one cover up after another. We saw it with Bush, now it is back to business as usual with Obama.

Sanity -> RE: Govt Gunrunners Block Family Testimony (8/12/2011 8:41:28 AM)

Sooner or later we are going to need to allow sanity to do his own work....of course I wouldn't get all invested in him actually doing it,but I would be dammed if I went and did it for him.

The American government has been selling weaponry to Mexican drug lords

Now the Justice Department is involved in covering up this fiasco

And all leftists can do is attack the messenger.

Nothing unusual here...  just another day.

All levels of Law Enforcement allow laws to be broken.  This is nothing new.  Drug deals are allowed, brothels are allowed to operate, chop shops, fencing rings, even gun sales.

They try and collect evidence and follow the chain as high as it can take them.  This has been going on forever even if some of you wish to pretend this is some vile thing created by Obama.

Now if you want to discuss why anyone actually thought they could track these guns once they crossed the border that's a good question.  When the guns entered areas of Mexico that the government has no control over what made anyone think they could still track them.

The rest of this is just  political nonsense.

no the problem is that the guv is a self protecting mafia by any definition you wish to choose.

One department protects the other and they get promoted up the ladder for doing it.

We are so fucked.

Wait 'till this comes up in the election debates, it won't seem so..... "minor" then!
Hey, how's about plane tickets for al qeada? Barakolypse was at a dinner celebrating the holy month of Ramadam last night, I wonder if Reverand Wright was with him?

mnottertail -> RE: Govt Gunrunners Block Family Testimony (8/12/2011 4:16:37 PM)

I think the bulk of the free world was laughing at the republican debate....

willbeurdaddy -> RE: Govt Gunrunners Block Family Testimony (8/12/2011 4:25:01 PM)

FR

Does the ruling really mean that their testimony is blocked? It just means that they were not directly impacted by the sale of the gun. What relevant testimony could they even provide?

If they were allowed to be considered victims then any gun dealer could be considered a criminal (unless the special nature of these sales somehow creates a different class of crime).

Mn, why would the bulk of the free world be watching our debates? Do you watch the German or Danish elections?
"Eh mate! Another Watney's and could you turn off that soccer rubbish so we can watch some political debate in  Idaho(?) in the U.S?"
Oh yeah, I can see all the women home alone while their husbands are "down the pub" flicking furiously through the channels trying to find a political debate thousands of miles away!
Suuuuuuure.

mnottertail -> RE: Govt Gunrunners Block Family Testimony (8/12/2011 4:35:16 PM)

Oh, I pay close attention to alot of the free world, we are supposedly in it.
