Apparently doesn't work with me, some people are a bit unresponsive to it and I seem to be one of them, bit of a bummer because I think kicking nicotine would have been easier with hypnosis.

I don't really buy into the claim that you can't do anything you wouldn't have done anyway because then you wouldn't need hypnosis at all.

littlewonder -> RE: hypnosis (8/14/2011 9:59:21 AM)

hypnosis takes away inhibitions..that's all. But some people have a difficult time letting down that part of their brain and so hypnosis doesn't work. Some people find that easier to do and so while they would never do it while their inhibitions are up, once down though they would do things they normally would not....like act like a chicken.

With hypnosis your sense of safety and morality remain throughout the experience. A hypnotist can't get you to do anything you don't want to do.

Heard that claim before, so you assume that the people who then believe they are chickens and make a fool out of themselves really want to do it?

Actually I do. Look at the circumstances where you see this type of display. The hypnotist asks for volunteers. Everyone is laughing and having a good time. No one forced the participants up on the stage. They knew what they were getting into and allowed themselves to go along with the fun.

What level of experience do you have?

I've been doing it for about 2 years now, Ive taken 2 classes on it, and done a ton of research online. Ive hypnotized people both online and in person. How about you?

I am curious how you hypnotized someone online? What was the focus point?

And I really don't get when someone says "you can seriously fuck up a person for life with that shit". It is not as if hypnosis can be achieved without consent. Or, I would hypnotize the bank teller and have them give me more cash than my withdrawal slip states.

It's not about consent. It's about what happens when you accidentally brush up against something neither one of you knew was there. Or sometimes inadvertent suggestions that seem like an innocent comment can lead to something far less than the desired result. The results can be life altering and an amateur doesn't have the foggiest clue how to deal with it.

stoni23 -> RE: hypnosis (8/14/2011 1:09:16 PM)

you don't need a focus point to hypnotize someone. You can do it with localized relaxation, spreading to general relaxation.

MissImmortalPain -> RE: hypnosis (8/14/2011 1:25:02 PM)

The thing that keeps sticking with me with this topic is everyone that says they can not be hypnotized. Though you can teach your mind to reject simple suggestion it is more than likely true that anyone who has ever watched a movie, attended a lecture, or read a book has experienced a form of hypnosis. It is all a matter of levels and time. As someone who has tried many times to be hypnotized I too thought it could not be done. I then did a little training and found that it can not be done without solid mental consent. What happens after you are hypnotized on the other hand is a different matter. Though it is highly unlike that you are going to give someone a suggestion like "go kill your mother" with any success. You can suggest things like "show me how playful you are" or "tell me what scares you more than anything else" And yes things like that can mess with a person. I could go on for awhile about the dangers, the fun, the does, and the don'ts. But I have decided I won't. It is up to each on their own to consider what safe , sane, and consentual means to them and someone they are supposed to care about.

Missokyst -> RE: hypnosis (8/14/2011 1:49:11 PM)

And you know what? Sometimes that happens. And when it does you deal with it. Sometimes you cry, sometimes you laugh, sometimes you break into a language you didn't remember you could speak (which has happened to me). If it is something that can make a person catatonic is it probably a good thing it was brought out so it could be dealt with. Not by the person who is playing with you, because clearly something like that is not play. Like any other freak accident that might happen when people are playing hopefully they know when it is time to end the play.

Holy smokes, people fool around with breath play, needles, electricity, rope, wire, chain, knives, fire, nails, skewers, getting slapped, punched, thrown around, ect., and that is ok but lord, don't mess with their heads!

To vilify a practice because it might do harm really negates all the other stuff we might do as a "no worry".
This is just another avenue of knowing there are risks when you consent.

yeah, I love a good scene that ends with an ambulance trip and a 5150 hold.

I don't vilify the practice, I maintain that it should be done by those that are qualified. I have a psych degree, I know it can work and I've seen the long term effects it can have, both good and bad. Even the pros fuck it up every once in awhile.

It's the difference between "you will feel happy and sedated when you go to the dentist" and "you will feel happy and sedated when you're at the dentist" that can cause damage.

I can buy it bigtime but it has always been based on real time affects.  I'd still have to have carted my arse to the boob-ward and got my biopsy done, whether M was there to zone me into la-la land or not. We just arranged it, at no small cost, not to have to.

The vicarious notion of god-like stuff can totally engulf me because I'm willing to go there with M, even with his feet of clay.

There are great things that can be done.....even between mortal dumb-arses such as M and I.

If you think you need or could even benefit from hypnosis in order to dominate then you are pretty much the poster child for the UIW*.

I say who the hell cares how you get there if you can feel happy and sedated at a dentist LOL (sorry I do hate the dentist)

If we stay with your therory then I should get a professional bondage person because after being tied up for months by the same person we had one time went bad. Sonething triggered from my past that neither he nor I was aware of at the time. I sure as hell didn't give up ropes, we worked through it. It turned out to be a very good thing in the end.

I think RACK would include hypnosis just as much as anything else. It isn't some deep dark voodo magic it can be a tool like any other tool a lot of us use to play.

No, it's at best a crutch. A tool is something an intellectually competent person uses...so hypnosis, is by definition, out.

Now before you jump up and say you have used hypnosis, think about what such a statement would mean in light of what I just said..

OH and what you just said is the new law of all bdsm play? damn i must have missed the memo

HannahLynHeather -> RE: hypnosis (8/14/2011 11:51:20 PM)

no, he's quite fucking clearly stating his opinion. he didn't say it was wrong to use hypnosis <i said that>, he's saying that any body who does use it is a fucking idiot.

come on tmb, get with the program, it's not one-true-wayism, it's just an out and out fucking insult.

  You'll tend to find things run much more smoothly if you ignore 98% of what Arpig says.

It takes about 1 minute to teach someone how to handle an abreaction.

It's dangerous if you go fucking around with hypnosis without any basic training whatsoever. Sure. But hypnosis is a very natural state and learning how to hypnotise someone safely can be done in a one day workshop. In that, hypnosis is no more dangerous than rope bondage, breath play or any kind of deep level D/s relationship, and probably less dangerous.

(No psych degree here, but I am a certified hypnotherapist)

sinandhoney -> RE: hypnosis (8/18/2011 11:45:19 AM)

We have a hypnotist in our group, who will be doing his second workshop for us this month. His first suggestions during relaxation are always that you do not have to do anything that you do not want to do. I don't find, having seen it done in person, to be any different than anything else we do. After all I'm a huge fan of mind fucks, certainly no less risky than hypnosis.
