Ok apparently most of you who are slamming her for being bored or sitting around on the computer surfing CM all have well paying satisfying busy jobs. Well try something else. Ever worked front desk at a hotel or motel, like a small one? You get one or two customers every couple hours and a phone call every 20 minutes, aside from that you sit there and stare off into space. Ever worked in a movie store? Same thing except replace the phone calls with putting away a half dozen movies. Everyone says "Oh make improvements, think of ways to make the place better, find some cleaning or something to do", but you have obviously never done it; if you are saying those things. See there's no point cleaning because they pay someone else to do that or you already have to stay after closing and do it, so why do it earlier for no reason? As for improvements, a lot of bosses don't like you doing that without asking and even then they say no. Why? Because they don't want to have to learn a new way of doing things, or adapt to the changes, and they sure as hell don't want the people underneath them looking better than they do so they end up getting replaced. Not all bosses are there because they're good at what they do, a lot were just in the right place at the right time or looked like what someone thought a boss should look like. Thinking of ways to make a place better is great but there's not much point if you have a dead end job, and less if your not going to be able to do it or even get credit for trying.
Now for those who think I'm saying this from a lazy bastards point of view, I'm not. I have done both those jobs, front desk, movie clerk, and more than a few other boring sit-around jobs. I finally found a job where I had to work and have been doing it for nearly six years, but now I'm quitting and why? It's become boring. I have made all the improvements I can, at least till the higher ups are willing to sink some money in and replace the ancient equipment we have. I have thought through all the other improvements I could or would do, given the opportunity, to the point of submitting a plan for an entire new shop with new equipment. I was made shop foreman last fall because they bought the yard our shop is in and have started moving pipe in and out and the old shop foreman was promoted out of the shop. I wasn't the only candidate just the best. I still do my old job of running the lathe, I now do the shop foreman job and I still get bored and sit around surfing the web on my phone. My job though is not an easy one, most new hires quit inside two weeks because they can't hack it, and this is in the oilfield where even a little experience makes you tough. In nearly six years we have yet to be fully staffed. Yet in spite of this, being understaffed, standing around bored texting or surfing, doing two jobs, making improvements, my output is still more than anyone else in the shop. My boss did the job of Lathe operator before me and I cut faster than he did.
So what I'm trying to say to all you people out there slamming this girl for going on the computer and being bored at work maybe instead of talking about kicking her ass or how lazy she is and how she should "work harder"; maybe you need to stop and look at yourselves, kick yourselves in the ass, pick up your lazy bloody asses and get more done so YOU have time to be bored. She said she was done her work and that's why she was bored, so maybe she is done, maybe she is the hardest worker and maybe she deserves to play on the computer. After all her boss doesn't seem to have issue with it because she doesn't seem to be worried about him/her finding out.
So for those of you who want to think she is lazy, go for it, have fun in the mid level carrier your in because people like myself and probably her, who work hard enough to have time to be bored will be out heading towards the top where instead of being bored, we can just go play golf.
