ORIGINAL: tweakabelle quote:
Perhaps the reason that you don't have anyone on the right condemning him, is because we try not to be a raving mob and condemn someone as "guilty" when we don't have the facts, and don't know if he did anything morally or legally wrong. When I recall some of the things said here about Obama, or even just Strauss-Kahn, I can only conclude that this is a weak attempt at self-deprecating humour. Just how open-minded is the Right? Is there any need to check out Bachmann, Palin, Perry et al's positions on the rights of sexual minorities? Why does Bachmann's husband offer 'therapy' for gays? What is there to cure if you're open-minded? The only place that gay rights are opposed is on the Right. And large sections of the Right are rabid about denying gays their rights. So enough of the double-speak thanks. First, in the US, we are suppose to have that "innocent until proven guilty" thingee. Second, no charges have been placed against him. Third, he has not denied the basic facts, just their interpretation. Fourth, no one has provided any evidence of Hinkle's own political, personal or moral beliefs about gays, other than a non-linked assertions that he voted against a law to allow "gay marriage". Fifth, not all of "the Right" believe any such thing as gays "shouldn't have rights", at all, Sixth, what have the Republican candidates you mentioned above have to do with what CM "rightist" posters believe about gays? Do you mean to state that "right-ward" CM posters are "anti-gay"? Seventh, I suspect I can find as many (if not more) "liberal", "Independent" or "non-aligned" posters who complained/bitched/condmned Strauss-Kahn as you can find "right" posters who did. Eight, it is often the "lefties" who defend the right of accused politicians - if they have the "correct" political beliefs - to remain "innocent" until proven "guilty" ... and sometimes beyond. But I guess that doesn't apply, if they are an "R" after their name? Hell, I could keep going on, but that may be enough Firm
