ORIGINAL: outhere69 Yep, once again the urban legend about Gore claiming credit for the internet raises its head. It depends on what you consider "legend". He did say it, but it may have been spun beyond his literal statement...maybe not beyond what he implied. I'd clip from snopes.com, but you can't copy from their text. You can find the full explanation here: http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp From your own link: Al Gore, during a March 9th, 1999 interview on CCN's Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer: "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet." Was this simply a poorly constructed sentence, and he wasn't really claiming to be responsible for "creating the Internet"? Probably. But he said what he said, and just as the left can twist, misrepresent and paint what conservatives say to make fun of what they consider the underlying persona and beliefs of the person .... I think making fun of Gore for claiming to have invented the Internet is pretty good summation of his blow-hard, puffed-up personality. Edited to add: Think of the false meme that Palin said "I can see Russia from my front porch." or something to the effect. At least Gore's statement was made by him, and not some left-wing comedian. Firm PS. Snopes has always had a decided left-of-center bent when it came to political issues.
