I'm not trying to downplay the good thing that this guy did, however... /snip Some argue he is an example of the kind of immigrant the federal government will now largely leave alone. The Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday that deportations would focus on criminals. /snip Typical government double speak....he IS a criminal. By virtue of being here illegally he is subsequently a criminal. His crime is illegal immigration!

His crime is a misdemeanor. While I wish they would do something, I dont think the fed government needs to concern itself with those types of charges.

He had to leave the US as well for a while and they both had to do the interviews in Mexico. My understanding is that its much faster if you marry outside the US rather than in the US. But of course that means the immigrant must wait for the process to be allowed into the US.

a relative of mine married a foreign guy and it didn't take 5 years for him to get residency. they couldn't afford a lawyer and handled it all themselves. and they got married in the US. okay, so this one hero might be illegal, but so was Eleazar Rangel-Ochoa, who ran a red light and killed a 4 year old girl here in Omaha. so maybe they cancel each other out. i think illegal immigration is wrong. one guy doing a good deed doesn't change that. maybe the immigration process needs some tweaking, but to just flat out disregard the law because "it's complicated," when i personally know several people who weren't rich AND who pulled it off? give me a break.

I sorta wonder if maybe cuz if someone is Hispanic, if their application keep getting pushed down to the bottom... I dunno.. sounds like the system needs total revamping and the rules modernized a tad..
