ORIGINAL: tj444 did you marry her in the US or outside the US. My understanding is if you marry outside the US its a lot faster, guess marrying within the US is suspect or something.. The people I knew doing this married in the US and if what they told me is true, they were at the 4 year mark. I am sure the screw ups and lost paperwork made that a longer process for them.. but they didnt use a lawyer, they used a less expensive counsellor.. We married in Denmark, and applied at the US consulate in Germany. I did all of the paperwork. Didn't use a lawyer or counselor. At the time, I understood that it would have been easier and quicker if we had married in the US, instead of Denmark, but this was all more than 20 years ago. Although, at the time, my parents were trying to get immigration status on a young Nicaraguan girl that they had adopted and were trying to bring into the US. THAT was a nightmare, and took them a long time. Firm hmm, yeah, i think things have changed a lot since then, I think 9/11 changed a lot of things. I sorta wonder if maybe cuz if someone is Hispanic, if their application keep getting pushed down to the bottom... I dunno.. sounds like the system needs total revamping and the rules modernized a tad..
