So, you know what they say about opinions, right? They're like assholes and everyone has one. I think this whole idea that making judgments is wrong because people can't stand to be told, hey...your judgment (opinion) is wrong (it doesn't validate me). We all have to make judgments to make decisions. Once upon a time, I yelled at my boss. She made the judgment that I must have some anger management issues and made me go to the employee assistance program. However, the counselor determined that I do NOT have anger managment issues and said that I am perfectly normal. (Imagine that.) I'm not sure she liked his judgment, because it meant that I got to keep my job. [:D]

Hello Level, Interesting question. I have always looked at it this way ( I know you are sitting at the edge of your seat, with baited breath, right? hehe)... Sometimes people get really pissed off at what they deem semantics, but the various distinctions and colors the slight differentiations of words have can be very important. I think it is not the wisest choice to be judgmental. I think only a fool thinks that no one judges. Everyone judges and has to (and does)make judgments upon the information we are continually processing, both consciously and unconsciously. Unless you have had some sort of frontal lobotomy (and I do have a list of people I am continually adding to whom I think might benefit from said procedure), you constantly thinking, reacting and evaluating various stimuli. Our ability to make both conscious and unconscious judgments are what keeps us from stepping in front of a speeding bus, or getting into a car with a strange person who creeps us out. Being judgmental is a bit different than that. It implies that you are passing a judgment based upon a personal bias or prejudice. It also tends to mean one who is in a constant state of passing their own personal judgments and pressing them upon others. Judging should come from some sort of processing of facts and information.. being judgmental tends be be based less upon facts and reason and more upon the premise that you know better than anyone else, and that your way is always the best way.

I understand those who say that they do not make judgements. However, for the safety of those under my protection, I have to form opinions. And if I had a strong 6th sense, I could avoid the wrong situations without much mental effort. Of course I'm running on just the first 5 with some good intuition and some valuable lessons. One other idea that sticks, those things that you see in others that put you at your highest alert, are things we have known in ourselves and places we have visited. It is a basic rule of mankind, it really is. It's a survival thing, ya know.

I do not like to judge people, but there are certain pieces of garbage that I just plain avoid because the way they carry themselves is too painfull to watch. The less I know about them the better.

I believe too many people confuse judgement, for being judgmental. I'm a student that has education as a top priority. As a result, I try to use judgment on class nights, to get a good night's sleep and be ready for the next day. That doesn't mean I have judgmental thoughts towards those that feel differently ... as a matter of fact, on non-class nights, I'm usually out there with them. So no, I do not believe that everyone is judgmental. I believe that some people confuse showing judgment and having preferences, for being judgmental.

I'm judgmental certaintly. I think thoughts of judgment and stuff, however most the time I keep it to myself. So If I see a painting that's really ugly in my opnion I won't go to the artist and call it an ugly mother fucker for instance:P

Judges whether the person will "fit" into her life. Whether she wants to be associated with them, whether she likes them, whether its possible to be friends with them. On top of that it analyzes ppl to death. she judges situations too, but she never acts on her judgment. Always best to wait and see.. and put aside the personal judgment until one is proven right or wrong. Really who is anyone, who has any right - to judge whether some one else is "bad or good" (simply put). Who are you to judge if one is illerate or a moron, or ect? Sure, judge for yourself. As in "you are illiterate to ME" Judgement is ALL OPIONON.. opionons are like a-holes.. everyones got one. Course screwing with another's "judgment" is amusing. Watching them judge on a few facts, proving them wrong, giving a few more facts.. watching them unable to ever stick with a judgment is amusing. Eh, its what they get. though hypocritical judgment does lower her opionon of another majorly. she tends to find it an unintelligent behavior. Think it would be wise for others to understand that judgment is purely a personal opionon, doesnt make you right wrong and it doesnt make the other what you've judged. Ex - "You suck" "i think you suck" there is a difference

It's to the point where any time she brings up her dislike of judgemental people, she'll give me a semi-good natured glare. I just smile back all sweet-like lol.

we all make judgements all the time, based on the evidence available at the time. A car driver makes constant judgements about whether or not the traffic will allow them to make a given maneuver safely. The thing is, we all know the sort of thing that creates an impaired judgement when it comes to driving.......too much booze and your judgements are wrong, it doesnt matter that they're yours, they're wrong cos you're drunk. When it comes to more nebulous concepts, such as making judgements about peoples motives the problem is we rarely know all the information, so our judgements tend to be made on incomplete data, which in turn means they're objectively less accurate. However, it all goes wrong when we somehow claim that just because they are our judgements they are correct. i have seen politicians stubbornly hang on to policies in the face of all opposition and be called admirable for sticking to their guns........they'd be far more admirable in my opinion if they were big enough to accept when their judgement has been wrong and admit it.
