Well....I like papering the neighborhood.  A friend on Long Island put a huge sign on their front yard that said that the neighbors next door were selling heroine.  And I mean a BIG sign.  It had the desired effect; the people that rented the house moved.

But we are talking about something much less extreme.  I don't think that telling the CM population that someone operating under a nick (which is obviously not their name) is fake or misleading or scamming for money and then having certain facts that tend to support those allegations is a bad thing.  I just don't.

well, if a guy asked me for $ I would just laugh..

I just dont see how people can fall for stuff like that. There are all sorts of warnings all over the net not to send money, if someone is determined to do that, your warning wont do squat either..

There are none so blind as those that will not see...

I can't remember who has it in his tagline, but I thought it appropriate for this thread. (IF someone can remember the guy's name, please say so)

"Aren't we all just a little bit fake and a lot real"?

I think that quote is just awesome.

Seriously, I wouldn't have a problem with $1 at all, provided the other party does the same and it goes to a charity or whatever, I would be perfectly fine with it. I mean if somebody thinks $1 is the sign of a scammer or being scammed, I would wonder and not want to meet. It would most likely mean said person doesn't have the money for anything, so it would be me paying for everything, which kinda gets old really quickly.

I just can't be bothered to live my life in paranoia and conspiracy theories. I would think that would be such a waste of my day when I could be living it up and enjoying it instead of sitting back and thinking everyone is fake and out to take all my money.

I guess if it makes such people feel better...yes, the world is out to get you. Lock your doors tight and close the blinds!

<whistles>  Wow...way to completely mis-characterize and over-generalize a discussion with valid but divergent points of view.  At no time did anyone in this thread say that they considered everyone on CM is fake.

And that is the kind of vapid response that causes a thread that has been pretty damned thoroughly dealt with to come back to life.

Good night, TJ, re-think that $20.00 dollar thing, I could use the cash. :)

OH....and you have THOROUGHLY crushed me by saying that your tit mouse is neither your tit nor your mouse!

I'm honestly not just posting this to moan. And I also apologise if this is in the wrong forum. Seemed like the best place for it.

I recently got a bit of a telling off by a collarme admin, and rightly so, for posting a few blogs to point out the fact that a few members of the site seemed to be attempting to pass themselves off as other people by using photos which were not theirs. Usually this meant they were using photos of models or other celebrities who were not well known to the general public. My blogs were deleted, and then I had a message asking me not to draw negative attention to other users.

Which is all well and good. I don't want to break any of the site's rules.

But is this really a good sign? What does it say about a site who cracks down on people who identify fakes to try and save other people from disappointment or potentially being ripped off through... sigh... "tribute", but apparently does nothing to remove the offending profiles unless a certain number of people report them?

I have my own theories as to why this might be the case, but they're a bit controversial so in the interests of trying not to annoy the admin people further, I'll just keep them to myself.

As I said, I'm not having a moan. And really don't want to cause any grief for anyone. Just wanted to see the opinions of my fellow site users.

I find you can find out who's real pretty quick around here. The real people want to have a civil conversation and, if you have a connection, they want to move to the phone and meeting pretty quickly. The fakes will try to get their jollies off with online sex and always have a ton of excuses for why they can't talk on the phone or meet.

Honestly, if someone is going to send a tribute to an anonymous person online, they're going to get ripped off eventually. I just take care of myself and don't try to police the world or protect the stupid and the desperate.

You understand the 'no blacklisting thing now, yes?

quote:

I happen to think that it is a good sign.  It means such matters are in the hands of the site administrators, rather than some random person who might have an ax to grind against a particular poster.  It means some vindictive ex isn't trying to screw with the person who just dumped them or sixteen other reasons I could give you.

It says that the site, better yet an adult site, expects people to use their heads like adults, rather than feeling the members here need someone to come along and save them.  How much more do they really need than that warning in the big red letters that says, "Don't send money to other users for any reason".  If people would just do what the site tells them to do (both about sending money and about blacklisting) it wouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, you kind of are.  If you really thought it was a bad thing, you could have reported the profile and had that be the end of it.  That's probably what I would do if I knew somebody was using stolen photos.

For the record......

No, I don't think it's cool to be using another person's pic to represent yourself.

No, I don't think anybody's name needed to be brought to this thread who wasn't already on it.

No, I really don't have sympathy for anybody dumb enough to send money to somebody on the net that they haven't met in real life.

No, I really, really don't care how many fake profiles somebody can run off to find.  (Think about it.  If you were smart enough to figure they weren't legit, the rest of us aren't that stupid.)

No, I don't really think anybody on this site should be so worried about what other people do, when it doesn't affect them in the slightest, should be hung up on any of this stuff.

There is no such thing as a fake on the internet.

Everyone is absolutely true to their word, there really is a Nigerian prince who wants to send you 10 bazillion dollars. There are no men who fake being women online to collect your dollars.

The only e-mail virus to worry about is the one where Janet Reno poses nude - but only because it actually has nude pictures of Janet Reno in it.

The anonymity and relative protection involved in being obfuscated by IP addresses and fake names makes all people tell the truth all the time.

If you'll excuse me I need to go laugh myself into a hernia.

Here's the thing: software filters can be circumvented; humans are far more clever than programs. If I write a website that doesn't allow the word "shit" then someone is going to figure out how to write "sh1t." Or any number of other ways to get the meaning past the filters. It is even worse when it comes to profiles; the software doesn't have the capability to detect whether it's you at your keyboard or your cat taking a stroll - or a scammer.

You have to use the same filters as you do in real life the best of which is, "If it seems too good to be true then it probably is."

I was once contacted by someone on this site who was supposedly a "master" in my geographic area. He eventually sent his pic. It looked familiar. It was the same exact pic of a man in Arizona. I notified the man in AZ and told him someone had either used his pic, or that he had contacted me for less than honorable purposes.

I dont know if CM can do anything about this sort of thing, but it surely is a problem.

I'm sure, being the Domme that she is, she will love the attention.  Does anyone want to offer an opinion as to the likelihood of whether this is the profile of a real domina????
