Laugh all you want but it actually starts with a Q. You pronounce a Q how now ?

YOU misspell it.

T^T

Get over yourself. *L* That is the way CNN spells it and that is the site of my link, so I chose their spelling. I have read other web pages that have indicated there is no true English spelling. Besides, you, without a sense of humour, have entirely missed the point, (see Edwynn's post) not to mention taken this thread off track. :P

not quite termy.

quote:

The explanation, you may have read, is due to discrepancies transliterating Arabic. While true, this is not the whole story. Gaddafi (Google's most frequent spelling) is spelled القذافي in Arabic. The first letter "ق," qoph, is pronounced as a "k" sound and usually transliterated as a "q." Likewise, the second letter of his name, thal, "ذ," is pronounced as a deep "d" or "th" ("the" not "with") and transliterated "dh." Given these standardized spellings, the Libyan leader's name should be spelled "Qadhafi."

The reason the most common spelling of Gaddafi begins with a "g" is due to the Libyan dialect, which pronounces qoph like a "g" sound. English translations of Arabic leaders names generally are consistent with their local dialects, rather than standard translation. The best example of this would be late Egyptian leader, Gamal Abdel Nasser. His first name beginning with a jim "‫ج‬" would be traditionally transliterated Jamal. Instead, the Egyptian pronunciation of his name is the norm for English transliteration.

so it would seem that both are right.

I'm only going by CNN's spelling. ;) I've seen a number of different ways to spell Libyan-despot's name and personally I don't care how it's spelled, but, as per your findings, there really is no one way. Gee, kinda like BDSM....there is no one "twue" way. :D

"not to mention taken this thread off track. :P"

OK, back on track. Didn't we bomb that fucking place a long time ago. I remember there was a big hubub about France would not let us use their airspace. Remember ?

Why wasn't the fucking problem solved then ?

No sense of humor ? I beg to differ, I will joke about rape, cancer and fish. But foreign affairs in which we have no business, no, I have no sense of humor. We should not even fucking know about this. It's none of out fucking business, and it wasn't twenty years ago either, which is what France's position was pretty much then.

We couldn't use their airspace, indeed ! Well actually we could, no, wait, they got some damn good missiles, did back then. In fact sold them to our "enemies". Funny how France has not made quite as many enemies as the US huh. Strange. Could it be because they do not support unprovoked attacks ? I have no love for that country, but their government has brains orders of magnitude above any US regime since WW1.

No fucking sense of humor, that is the fucking understatement of the millenium.

Oh shucks, that didn't work. :P

Termyn8or -> RE: Moammar Gadhafi's sons arrested (8/21/2011 11:54:52 PM)

Ed, why is EVERY fucking country's problems ours ?

Well not all. If there are no resources there they can fucking starve like Bangladesh ot Zimbabwe. Or if the regime is too strong economically like in South Africa, these things take TIME. We can't just bomb those gold mines no matter what happened to Mandella or whoever.

But if you got oil, and you put one rapist in jail and there is a rasonable doubt, here come the fucking bombs. We will install a new government by sundown. They tried that shit in Venezuela and look what happened. Oil went up and Venezuela, having oil is of course happier. Do they learn not to fuck with people ? NO. Just keep it up. It hasn't worked for fifty years but it will soon. It will soon. It will soon. When is soon ? After every fucking ounce of wealth is taken from the people of this country and a few others ?

The answer is yes.

Obama changed strategy to Slaughterhouse-five (NATO massive bombing of civilian targets). It seems to be working.

Frick! Dr. Sanjay Gupta's special is being pre-empted by all this coverage of Moammar Gadhafi's sons being arrested. Hey, I'm all for having that regime toppled, but can't they report this stuff later? *whines*

On a side note, it always cracks me up how the British pronounce Gadhafi's name "kah-daffy". :P

Any resemeblance to real seriousness, living or dead, is purely by the reader who has no sense of humour. :D

OK.

You have called out the wrong person on the sense of humourage thing here, and you will be resplinded to accordionly.

Whatever your dehevent or domicilic intentions, there is no way I am going to stand for such low and subterranian stultifying instults as you are attenting to preposition everybody here with herewith.

Calling the great Lyberian leader "Daffy Duck," (I saw you says it, got the drugs for it back it up, just call the pharmacist), is a trammely of Domesticy, or Demonstrocity, or something like that.

Can you translate that into English?

In a nutshell, I believe he was being facetious and using some words in humourous replacement of others. (Example: accordionly = accordingly)

The original post link referred to the article suggesting Gadhafi regime crumbles.[ http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/africa/08/21/libya.war/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 ]. My post explains why (total criminal terror by the US Air Force).

There have been no reports of strikes against civilian targets or civilian infrastructure. The only terror our forces seems to have inflicted are on the criminals hired by Qaddafi to terrorize the Libyan people.

Terror by the Air Force against an admitted terrorist?

This fucker should have been taken out long ago, when he admitted to the bombing of Pan Am 103, not to mention a long list of other atrocities he admitted to.

This was not a US operation, it was a NATO operation.

And most importantly it was an internal uprising by rebel forces.
