First, the original.  I'd rather it didn't come back.  Best part of the whole darn thing was VC and I joking about a vacuum cleaner.

On your question, I can't say anything about popular request, but anytime a thread has gone away that I was curious about, I've just written VAA to ask about it.  In the past, there have been times that I've asked if a thread or a particular comment be restored.  (Not always My own.)  Sometimes Alpha says yes and other times she says no.

I have to wonder if the thread and the profile were a hoax.  Since the information was put out there that the address and phone number could be tracked by going to the person's profile, it might have been in somebody's best interest to pull it.  I can think of a lot of reasons why a vindictive person would want to plaster somebody else's information on the internet to cause them trouble.

Yes, having that sort of personal info out there is no good.  Having the profile taken down is the right thing to do (although, the thread was hilarious). 

Also, I agree.. if someone was willing to put up their address and phone number.. I bet they'd also put up an actual picture...  Sounds like decent evidence for speculation of a hoax profile created by a vindictive person.
