What today's lack that those had, was people could walk away from them and still like each other. We're long past that.

Some of us still have that ability. [:D]

Some do, but a lot don't. Look at joe, calling for bloody civil war.

This rally was little more than a political oxymoron for actually getting people to work together. I don't know about you, but I've never felt particularly interested in either listening to, or working with someone who starts the show cursing me out. Then again, I'm not a masochist.

What it sounds like is A) I'm going to tel you what I want. B) I don't care if you think it's a load of crap or wonder how much it's going to cost - which by the way, I'm not going into those  messy details and  C) If you don't give it to me, woo hoo, I can run around for a year telling America how I coulda made things better if that nasty Congress had just given me a few more trillion dollars or thrown in whole-heartedly on building 14 million windmills in South Carolina.

His preview speech sounded a lot like stimulus. He's going to keep some of his plan secret, so he can lay it out later. He rides in on the coattails of hanging blacks in the trees, you can go straight to hell, Lord keep me safe from the barbarians, we're gonna take you son of a bitches out, and spreads his arms magnanimously just before he says, let's all work together.

Ain't politics grand?

I think Republicans need to sign on to the payroll tax cut, and sign on to extend unemployment benefits. When I say need, I mean need.

The real problem is there are no quick fixes. If there were, we'd have done them already. And I think a good portion of America is tired of the visionary crap. They're wanting a fix that makes sense, and makes sense now.

Shrug.

All of which lays the groundwork for a long, dismal winter full of nasty politics.

Unless of course, the economy suddenly takes off on it's own. In that event, we'll get to watch both sides spend the next year telling us we can thank them and not the other side.

tazzygirl -> RE: Will Barack Obama condemn Joe Biden and Jimmy Hoffa for calling Republicans 'barbarians' and 'son of (9/7/2011 2:47:34 AM)

I recall... and I cant find it now.... an article that listed some 10 economists talking about the recession and how long it would take to "fix" it.... the numbers were 8-10 years for a complete turn around. I keep those numbers in the back of my mind while reading these threads.. any of them, regardless of who starts them.

You are right, there is no easy fix. Our economy has become investment driven. Some people like that, Im not one of them. It will require deep cuts... and increases in revenues... to pull us out of this mess, no matter who is in office One side is all for the cuts, not so much the increases. The other, for the increases, not the cuts.

I do know its not going to be easy on the one who has to do this job. The effigies will burn, the complaints and accusations will soar. It still has to be done.

I suppose im waiting on the one with the Reagon/Clinton style. I had high hopes that would be Obama, those hopes have crumbled. He is too much into working together.. and it has been a disaster for him... and for us.

I would have preferred a one term President with a spine of steel who had no problem saying... fuck you, this WILL be done.

Because thats a lie for one thing

You can see the original image below. Mansour called the crosshairs "surveyor marks." Palin has removed the list from her PAC website, but not from her Facebook page.

For another, Obamas, "They bring a knife, we bring a gun" etc was prior to that leftist shooting Giffords.

Hoffas introducing Obama this way, and Obama heaping praises on Hoffa afterward,  comes only a few months after Obama gave us his "new tone" sermons as if he believes he is Ghandi, or Jesus Christ or something

So, what's the difference between the crap Hoffa said "Take the bastards out" and Palin putting crosshairs over districts?

Both are classless.

Lucylastic -> RE: Will Barack Obama condemn Joe Biden and Jimmy Hoffa for calling Republicans 'barbarians' and 'son of (9/7/2011 4:13:31 AM)

What’s undeniable is that the attempted assassination of Giffords took place against a right-wing media backdrop that has been targeting the government, and specifically Democrats, in an unconscionable manner:

* “The suicide-bomber-in-chief, Barack Obama”

* Beck suggests Obama admin might kill "10 percent" of population

* Quinn: "Yes," Obama is "trying to destroy the country"

As facts of the Giffords shooting continue to come in, let’s understand what has transpired in recent months as right-wing partisans have rushed past any sense of common decency and responsibility to endless attack and condemn Democrats. For instance, let’s recall that last March when Congress was preparing to vote on passing health care reform, partisans in the far-right press denounced the vote in apocalyptic language as they depicted Democrats as monsters who deserved to be physically tortured.

Recall that at the same time, a surge of political violence erupted across the county as Democrats became the target of what were essentially terrorist attacks.

Rep. Tom Perriello's (D-VA) brother's address was erroneously posted online by a Tea Party blogger who invited activists to descend on the house. A gas line outside the brother's house was cut.

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) was the target of threatening faxes and phone calls, including death threats.
A brick was thrown through the window of the Democratic Party office in Rochester, New York.

Rep. Anthony Weiner's office in Kew Gardens, New York, had to be evacuated after suspicious white powder was found in an envelope mailed to the office.

A thrown brick smashed a window at Rep. Louise Slaughter's district office in Niagara Falls, New York.

Slaughter also received a message claiming that "snipers were being deployed to kill those members who voted yes for health care," according to Politico.

The FBI arrested a California man for making threatening phone calls to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

A tossed brick demolished a window at the Sedgwick County Democratic Party headquarters in Wichita, Kansas.

A devoted Glenn Beck fan left a serious of death threats (“Kill the fucking Senator! “) on the voice mail at the office of Sen. Patty Murray

And of course, there was the attack on Gifford’s Tucson office last March. Hours after voting in favor of health care reform, vandals smashed the front door, along with a headquarters window. Days later, Gifford spoke about being targeted.
,snip>
Even after Byron Williams, in a jailhouse interview, told reporter John Hamilton that he was heavily influenced by Glenn Beck’s conspiratorial rants at the time when Williams plotted to assassinate leaders at the Tides Foundation and the ACLU, what did Sarah Palin do?
What did Fox News’ Palin do in response to a direct request that she act as a true leader and call for a cooling off of the increasingly deadly rhetoric that had become a cornerstone of the conservative movement? Palin reaffirmed her support of the talker’s incendiary fear mongering: “I stand with you, Glenn.”

oh and there is more
http://www.csgv.org/issues-and-campaigns/guns-democracy-and-freedom/insurrection-timeline
just a sampling

June 9, 2010—Addressing the Obama administration and the Democratic-controlled Congress, FOX commentator Glenn Beck says, "Tea parties believe in small government. We believe in returning to the principles of our Founding Fathers. We respect them. We revere them. Shoot me in the head before I stop talking about the Founders. Shoot me in the head if you try to change our government. I will stand against you and so will millions of others. We believe in something. You in the media and most in Washington don't. The radicals that you and Washington have co-opted and brought in wearing sheep's clothing—change the pose. You will get the ends. You've been using them? They believe in communism. They believe and have called for a revolution. You're going to have to shoot them in the head."

February 6, 2011—The Minnesota Republican Party mails out a campaign brochure for state legislative candidate Paul Jacobson that depicts a hunter looking down a shotgun's sights while urging voters to "take your best shot." The brochure singles out and criticizes Jacobson's opponent in the race, Democrat Carly Melin, calling her a "fake" and stating her campaign is "full of holes." Her photo is included in the brochure.
May 18, 2011—National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent appears on "Piers Morgan Tonight" on CNN and states, "Anybody that wants to disarm me can drop dead. Anybody that wants to make me unarmed and helpless, people that want to literally create the proven places where more innocents are killed called gun-free zones, we're going to beat you. We're going to vote you out of office or suck on my machine gun." Nugent also declares, "The reason the whole world sucks and America sucks less is because the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights outlines an experiment where freedom rules the day of individuality and that that can only be secured by crushing those enemies that would take it away ... Anybody who would take away our individual rights and individual freedoms, they're the enemy. They need to be killed."

May 30, 2011—Pennsylvania Rep. Scott Perry (R-York) tells The Morning Call that the purpose of his "Castle Doctrine" bill is as follows: "We must be able not only to hunt but to protect ourselves from an overbearing government that does not do the will of the people." The bill in question, HB 40, would liberalize the law concerning the use of lethal force with a firearm outside the home by eliminating the duty to retreat safely from a potential conflict if possible. Individuals would be allowed to shoot to kill if they believed they were under threat of "serious bodily injury."

SO you want to make a point??? there are ugly people on both "sides" why cant you admit it... you havent ever since giffords got shot. WHY is that?

Lucylastic -> RE: Will Barack Obama condemn Joe Biden and Jimmy Hoffa for calling Republicans 'barbarians' and 'son of (9/7/2011 4:24:29 AM)

oh and the latest dating back to just last month
August 11, 2011—The chairwoman of the Sumter (South Carolina) Tea Party, Shery Lanford Smith, posts a "joke" on her Facebook profile about killing the president and first lady. In the joke, the Obamas' helicopter pilot says to his co-pilot, "I could throw both of them out of the window and make 256 million people very happy!" Smith then added, "If you're one of [the] 256 million, pass it on."

August 15, 2011—Two days after entering the 2012 presidential race, Republican candidate and Texas Governor Rick Perry makes the following comment about Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke at an event in Iowa: "If this guy prints more money between now and the election, I dunno what y'all would do to him in Iowa but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas. Printing more money to play politics at this particular time in American history is almost treasonous in my opinion."

August 17, 2011—During a tour of northeast Oklahoma, U.S. Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) calls his colleagues "career elitists" and "cowards" and states, "It's just a good thing I can't pack a gun on the Senate floor."

Whats this, you think that if you throw enough shit some of it might stick? How many of those were presidents preaching "new tone" sermons to us

Imagine if it had been Bush introduced that way, what a field day leftists would have had

Or how the far left shit throwing monkeys would have reacted had Bush said, They bring a knife we bring a gun..."

Lucylastic -> RE: Will Barack Obama condemn Joe Biden and Jimmy Hoffa for calling Republicans 'barbarians' and 'son of (9/7/2011 4:40:28 AM)

its not shit, it sticks on its own merit.its alll proved, its all in the interwebs and tv/news/archives as fact...
They were threats of gun violence from both sides.
that you dont see that no one is perfect is what is important and why you are useless.
So you blame the pres, ODS strikes again.
Now why dont you attack me some more so you can ignore the points Ive made
I havent heard crazy lady for at least 12 hours

Funny thing, Sanity... I never said either was right. Unlike you. You keep making excuses... they did it first. Obama said those words before Gabby was shot. Well, guess what? Who has taken the bullets from all this rebel rousing? Who damn near got killed in all this? A 9 year old girl did get killed. Does THAT help you sleep at night?

Only Fox took Hoffa's comments out of context and blew it up into something Palin style. Palin specifically kept insinuating guns into her rhetoric. She needs to own what has happened. The same Obama or Hoffa will need too if the left decides to take what they say with such neurotic zeal.

Amazingly, after all this back and forth between the parties... you come here with this bs.

For another, Obamas, "They bring a knife, we bring a gun" etc was prior to that leftist shooting Giffords.

Yeah, that BS. In order to make your argument at least halfway plausible... show me a Republican politician who has been killed/almost killed. Not attacked.. as Lucy proved many Democtatic ones have... and I wouldnt be surprised if a few Independents havent as well.

Sow us one Republican who has been killed/almost killed since all this BS began.

I had to edit the killed part... Gabby wasnt murdered... if not for the quick thinking at the scene, she would be dead. I dont think anyone could ever dispute that.

Try again

I am not making excuses I am pointing out the lefts blatant and ugly hypocrisy

In order to make my argument plausible all I have to do is establish that B.O. has said and acted as irresponsibly or more irresponsibly than anyone else, especially after that leftist shot Giffords

Which I have shown that, in that B.O. praised Hoffa for his war speech introduction, which in context is still talk of war and armies and taking people out

Palin is supposed to be this rotten creature for the quote you throw up, thats hypocrisy because of B.O.s own "bring a gun" quote

You funny! Its alright for you to puke your guts out all over the board, and I am not allowed to respond? [:D]
