I wouldn't mind an option to individually hide a member's avatar.

simple. hide the person.

I don't hide/block people.  It's petty.

I know we can hide people - but can we hide threads?  Every now and then one comes up and the name alone makes me go ewwww....

Ya' know this only makes me want to come up with the most revolting thread name I can, dontcha? It's like a dare. :)

Hey, I got some good ones.

Shitting in your partner's ear

Pissing in the soup

Radioactive cats

Aliens who make a new hole to fuck you in

Cunt bugs that don't go away

Ugliest herpes

Pop one of her eyes out to have a foursome

Anus bugs that can eat E. coli

I could go on but I really do think that's enough for now.

T^T

That is your point of view and not one shared by all.

If I hide someone it's so that I don't have to expose myself to their vitriol or ridiculousness. Unless you announce it to that person, how would they know? If they don't know, how is it petty?

I come online with the expectation of being offended and having thick skin to not get shaken to my very core by mere text.

That's your interpretation of it, and for you that works.

For me, it has nothing to do with having or not having thick skin, but of excluding negativity when I can. Sure, they are words on a screen and only I can allow them to affect me, no one can "make" that happen. But at the same time, an abusive post is going to provoke a response in the reader. To what degree the reader responds is up to that reader. Again, for myself, I just don't see any reason why I would want to see a reader's post when I know, for example, they always post in "angry" mode or consistently refer to others in derogatory terms. Positivity inspires positivity and negativity breeds negativity. You don't have to see it that way, but that's okay, because I do. :)

What I'd like to know is how your reasoning equates to your earlier statement of blocking being a petty action.

They should remove the whole, "hide/block" mechanic on here.  Only sissies need to hide from their problems.

Tell me something, Noctu.  If a hypothetical repulsively obese and hirsute neighbor walked around the house nude, aren't you going to draw your blinds eventually?  I men, sure, you'll grab a bunch of stills and video to post on the internet, maybe even sell a little on fetish sites, but do really want to keep seeing that, night after night, after night?
