I am pushing 70 and I have lived in texas,tenn,south carolina, north carolina and fla. when segregation was the law. I have seen black people hanging from trees. Until you can grasp the magnitude of that you will never recognize the need for the hate crime statute.

There is a law on equality out there, you might have heard of it. Hate laws are in no way, shape or form equal. They are completely biased, and often get out of hand. They are used out of context, and spur more hatred than they stop. They are a relic of a past that was much more violent than today. While race related crimes happen still, they are not accepted, and public opinion is NOT ok with them.

Perhaps you should google hate crimes and find out just how mistaken you are. This thread is about what you say is a relec of the past.

I was waiting for someone to try and pull that crap. I have Sioux and Cherokee in my blood, as well as Irish(there were legal Irish slaves), and while I could whine all day about it, the past is the past. Anyone who lives constantly in the past will not be happy. I know for some people as they get older that is harder to do, but see a therapist.

Age does not always lack experience. I have plenty of experience with hate, in forms of race, in forms of sexuality. I pretty much grew up in a boarding school one step from juvy. When I entered I was the one white girl out of 20 something black girls. Want to know who everyone took their frustrations out on til they learned how to fight back?
I remember a girl calling me a cracker, so guess what I called her back? Yet when the dust settled only one of us was punished based on a derogatory term. No equality there.

I had roommates who tried to kill me, who tried to kill themselves, girls who had been abused, who had been selling drugs since a young age, girls who almost killed others. The girls who society didn't know what to do with, so they shoved them all together and forgot about them.
There were girls who raped other girls, who beat each other over the faces with belts for no other reason then they were literally insane.

I think I know a bit about life, and hate. And enough to know that hate crime laws have no basis in equality, and that if you let things you have seen haunt you you cannot be happy.
