(quick disclaimer - the bold and underlined parts are the points I'm making - I know some of us, me included, have a problem with attention deficits so this sums it up for them

I like the forum layout too. It is much easier to keep up with posts on a SMF like bulletin board, than it is on a blog style format like Fetlife or most of the other BDSM related posting sites. I'd really hate to see the layout of these boards changed too much. In fact, my experience with groups and how they react to change has me surprised that so many people are eager to see changes made. Most of the time the reaction to change is NOT positive.

My best guess is coding changes to the message board isn't going to be very cost effective, and probably create more problems than they'd solve. A shame really, because the search feature sucks - royally! It would be nice if the search feature wasn't so fickle.

I love the idea of a New to the Forums discussion area. Except, not so much calling it BDSM Basics (I like the idea of a BDSM Basics board- just not as the Newbie section). I'd rather it not be limited to BDSM basics, but a place for people who are new to the forums, but not necessarily new to BDSM. I'd like to see new people have a chance to post without being beaten up and raked over the coals. I believe this is what was intended for the "Introduce Yourself" board, but that too limits the posts to simply an introduction. We can be pretty hard on people here, and I don't think that is always a BAD, sometimes it seems like people just need a smack to wake them up, but it takes time for some people to build up a callous and grow thicker skins. So what if some people are a bit more timid than others and require a gentler approach? If someone doesn't want to coddle new people, then they can avoid the section altogether. Besides, I don't think it would be at all a bad thing for some people to work on their people skills a little bit. Exercise a little discipline and decency. It might be good for them. I know it was for me! I'd like a NEW TO THIS section set aside, with strict moderation. For example:

NEW TO THIS

INTRODUCE YOURSELF
BDSM BASICS (Theory and Practice)
M/s - D/s BASICS (Relationship Discussions)
TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

I would like the option to delete a post completely, rather than just editing it.

I also wish the forums were more iPad friendly. Some of the functions don't work well on an iPhone or iPad.

Bad idea. Imagine this, someone posts something without thinking or inflammatory. A bunch of replies basically smacking them ensue then that person deletes the post. The replies no longer make sense. NOW if it were possible to delete the thread within a very short time span that would be different.

You could always make it such that once someone replied to it you could no longer delete. I know I've seen that done on other forums, though I don't know enough about the architecture here to know if it can be done.

As poster asked a question on another thread......and it's a great suggestion.

Give the conspiracy theorists their own area. That will give them their own little playpen to discuss whatever the current opinion is. Give the rest of us normal folk a break from the noise and blather.

Well Alpha I wasn't going to say anything but yet again someone showed their ass.

I think posts that suggest that others should not be allowed to post should be against TOS. They got a fucking ignore button and for certain people (who know who they are) to suggest that certain opinions, no matter how wrong they may consider them should be prevented from appearing is tantamount to trying to control the content of this site. That includes "certain threads" as well as the forum in general.

I thought that was your job. Sometimes I tell them they should buy the place but really I hope it isn't for sale.

I think the mods do a good job. I think anyone who gives them hell should be banned for life.

There is no way to make everyone happy, so I would make sure the ones who thought I was doing a horrible job did not have to waste their time watching me suck at doing the thing I did for free, in my free time, in order for them to have a place like this to come and chat.

Course, there is a reason every other name I have on-line starts with the word grouchy.

That sounds ridiculously childish.

If they feel their efforts are not being appreciated, then they can relieve themselves of their duties and get replacements. If they are able to handle the harsh criticism, then they can correct what it is people dislike about them.

I'm sure they are nice people, but being nice doesn't mean you're adept at everything.

You are correct, Arpig. IP addresses are not in any way reliable for identifying individuals and connecting their different accounts.

That doesn't mean that there aren't identifiers used by programs to distinguish between different users, or to recognize a relationship between visits made by the same user. Sites use such identifiers all the time to analyze their traffic. I'm not a computer geek or guru or anything, but that is how I understand it to work.

I don't know if CM utilizes anything like this, but I wouldn't want to bet the farm that it wasn't possible to connect users. However, if I was running the site, I'd not want users to know one way or the other if I could connect the dots. If I couldn't, but they thought I could; it might help keep chaos to a minimum. If I could, and they knew how I did it, they might figure out how to circumvent it. But, that's just me.

Personally, since I don't do anything to warrant concern, I couldn't care less. Just wanted to point out that IP's aren't what a site would use to connect the dots anyway. They might have been true ages ago, but as you pointed out; technology has rendered IP tracking pretty obsolete.
