hardcybermaster -> you should pass this bill right away (9/8/2011 4:21:22 PM)

when everyone has stopped standing up, clapping and sitting down, will they pass this bill right away?
Should they pass this bill?

FirmhandKY -> RE: you should pass this bill right away (9/8/2011 5:04:53 PM)

No bill is yet in evidence.

TreasureKY -> RE: you should pass this bill right away (9/8/2011 6:08:35 PM)

Hard to pass something that hasn't been presented.

farglebargle -> RE: you should pass this bill right away (9/8/2011 8:43:32 PM)

Go look at the White House's website. There's a fact sheet with plenty of details.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: you should pass this bill right away (9/8/2011 8:48:14 PM)

A fact sheet isn't enough, there needs to be a bill. A fact sheet is just spin

Can anyone translate for me?

Because I have no idea what this thread is about.

There is a bill, but Obama hasn't sent it to Congress yet. Of course, he wouldn't send it BEFORE his speech. They will probably have it by morning. And yet, the bill the president sends them will be nothing like the bill he eventually receives for his signature. Every special interest and every caucus is going to do work to change aspects of it. The progressive caucus has already announced they are going to work to make some of the provisions stronger. And another group is totally is up-in-arms about the payroll tax cuts that will ultimately undermine social security. Tax cuts are nice, they keep money in our pockets. But they are not very stimulative. The unemployed don't need tax cuts, they need jobs--right away.

Damn, erieangel, we basically agree.

Except ... I suspect that we won't see the bill for at least a week.  Maybe two.  Or longer.

Hope I'm wrong, though.

Actually at least one part of the President's plan is already a bill.

Well, from the article you quoted:

The bill was introduced in March.

~FR

The bill has not been presented yet.... but from McConnel, they already know they need to go in a different direction.

Uh did you listen to the speech? Its a

Stimulus bill
Using payroll tax gimmickry
and pushing increased spending on the super committee to fight over ways to pay for it under the threat of defense and/or cuts to SS/Medicare

Damn right we need to go in a different direction. If he even intends it to be a direction. Its just as likely he intentionally proposed gibberish so that he can campaign on the mean GOP blocking him.

tazzygirl -> RE: you should pass this bill right away (9/9/2011 10:35:42 PM)

Ummm.. McConnel made those statements prior to the speech.

The bill that DK referenced, and that I was talking about, was a bill that was presented back in March.

Way before this last Obama speech.

And the one I am referring too is the one that the House/Senate have not received yet... the one in the OP. Which is why my post is ~FR

Ummmm the contents of the speech were being leaked for at least a week before it was made.

[:D]

A good example of why the automatic use of the last poster when you use the "Fast Reply" option at the bottom of the thread should be changed, as discussed in the "Forum Improvements" thread.

lol

thats why I put ~FR when its not directed at the last poster. [;)]

Yeah, it is confusing.

And as someone who is supposed to represent all his constituents, it behooves him to at least read the bill before declaring "we need to go i a different direction". Leaked information never gives the whole picture.

DarkSteven -> RE: you should pass this bill right away (9/10/2011 2:51:32 AM)

Oh nooooooo Mr. Bill!
