9/11 threat from al Qaeda operative intercepted, official says
Washington (CNN) -- American spy networks have intercepted communications from an al Qaeda operative in Pakistan indicating plans for a terrorist strike in New York or Washington, according to a senior U.S. official. The communications come from a source who has provided accurate information in the past, the official said, prompting intelligence officials to sift through communications from other al Qaeda cells. No other corroborating evidence of an attack has been uncovered, the official added. But the information indicates the plan -- thought to involve a vehicle-borne explosive device -- is meant to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

There has been "credible" threat intercepts in the past which turned out to be false alarms, and a few attacks we had no clue about such as the "underwear bomber" and "shoe bomber."

The British broke up the liquid bomb plot a few years ago.

And finally, the only successful Al Qaeda attacks happened overseas, in Spain, the UK and the far east.

Do you think that Al Qaeda has the resources to mount an attack on the US now, even if they use American citizens to try and pull it off, or do you think security has gotten better?

Absolutely, It depends on how connected they are to the network. The more off-grid and independent they are the more likely they will be successful. There might be a credible threat because someone knows something is going to happen, but they may not know who or exactly what is going to happen.

Unfortunately there is no way to be totally secure against this type of attack, whether its domestic or foreign, organized or "lone wolf". I wouldnt be at all surprised if there is a lot of activity Sunday, even if its just decoy vehicles meant to create fear and disruption of remembrances.

Does anybody take this government baloney seriously? As the government version of the 9/11 events falls like house of cards, they are worried as the anniversary events are happening. There is no reliable method to separate government lies from the truth. Perhaps the best is just to ignore.

London has a 40 year history of being on alert for terrorist attacks. This didnt stop the attacks on the London underground, nor indeed many attacks by the IRA. A determined terrorist will always find new ways to bypass security, all you can do is be vigilante.

Increased security does minimise the rick, the cost is long delays flying out of the UK. Well worth the price though, I flew to the US a week after the liquid bomb plot hit the news. Heightened security meant very long waits but no one seemed to be moaning, save the odd muttering.

Incredible that idiots still believe 9/11 was a conspiracy by the US Government. There is no proof of this that stands up when questioned.

I find it remarkable instead, considering that it is far more incredible that people who are not idiots still believe 9/11 was not a conspiracy by the US Government.

I am not an idiot and I know that no planes crashed that day; in fact two of them planes never lifted off.

I agree.  I am absolutely sick of the hype over 9-11.  GET OVER IT!   3,000 people died-   WHO CARES!   Why must I relive this war on terror every time you cough- the flag goes up- and RAH RAH more wars for the private contral bank.

I am over it.

FUCK 9-11

At least it makes everything else they post ignorable. Tremendous time saver.

I find this remark fascinating. The evidence 9/11 was a "false flag" attack organized by a group inside the US government and security services is absolutely overwhelming.

So start a new thread showing it. there is no overwhelming evidence except in your own mind.

God knows I have been critical enough of Bush and his cronies but the idea they carried out 9/11 is not only laughable, but sadly lamentable.

FUCK 9-11

I recall you started a thread yesterday about flooding in your area. Considering the fact that others expressed plenty of sympathy when you just got your basement wet (which you appreciated), its unfortunate you can't enter into a similar sensibility to even a minimal extent over the suffering of several thousand people and their families or at the very least not express outright contempt. I was in another country when it happened but to be honest I still find it hard to look at the footage today.
