Bit of a Megabus expert by now. Have done Montreal to Toronto vice versa and Toronto to NYC and back many times. It is a tad rough. I usta do the Amtrak Via Rail, NYC and Toronto and that is pretty nice. It is along the Hudson River. It costs more to do that ride than it does to fly. I do the Megabus to NYC and pay just over a Bill return. To get the one dollar deal you need to be one of the first five to book the ticket. I was heading to Niagra Falls and when I booked the ticket it was a buck! The return was like 13$ so it was a cheap ride and they even refunded me when I didnt go, I dunno like 24-48 hour notice I think it is to get a refund. I have had a bad time on the bus and more often it has been fine. Too freaking long but fine. I bring things to help me through the ride. Fresh food and a sheet or blanket because the "air" is so freaking drafty and cold. Headphones, way too many people talking loudly on their phones. There is no over head rack so everything needs to go under the seat, unless you stow under the bus when you board. I traveled from NYC to Toronto last summer during Caribana and that was a freaking nightmare. When I went this summer I made sure I was nowhere near Caribana time. Yikes that was just way too intense. It is super annoying in some ways to take those buses but after having done it over and over I can vouch it is mostly fine. The buses are equipped with anti-theft devices and going through the border is so bad anywhere but going over on a Megabus is a real chore. They shut off the recycled air, shut the door of the bus while the driver goes in to check in at Immigration, the Bus area. We sit on the bus sucking in nasty dead air and then file off, grab all out stuff, every last scrap of it and then file through Custom's with our suitcases and some of us are taken aside and further searched. They take the busdriver's passport so he cant drive away. This particular time I was not further searched and we all seemed on time to get back on the bs when the bus would not turn on. Because we were under a concrete pass, the bus thought it was under a bridge and simply would not go. He was on the phone with Headquarters trying different codes to jump start the bus but nope, it acted like it was being stolen and was on lock down. We had to wait an hour for another bus, a regular coach bus and detour into St Catherine's. That really sucked but all in all the bus is fine. Disgusting and uncomfortable at times but I would do it again if I needed to get somewhere on the inexpensive.
