Are the routes limited? I want to go look this up now.

littlewonder -> RE: MEGABUS???? (9/11/2011 4:51:49 PM)

yes they are limited. They don't go everywhere. There's only so many places they from and go to and depending on the time of day when you leave and what specials are running they range in price but usually they are the cheapest buses around, cheaper than Greyhound. They're good if you live near a large metropolitan area.

I went to the US site, but they offer a direct route to DC from Toronto.
Gonna have a look:)
Looks like you would have to travel to Toronto, then thru to NYC.
From Montreal they only seem to do the one route.

Thanks Lucy still not a bad idea if it's cheaper. I love travelling by bus and it's worth the dis comfort just to avoid the (greater) annoyance of airport security.

This site is awesome!
I was stressing how to get to upper new york for a paintball weekend, since I can't drive yet- greyhound was charging more for one way then this mega bus does for round trip. And greyhound was several stops for at the lowest 10 hours of travel time, this thing says 4 hours.

Thank you so much for this post!

Yes the Toronto/Montreal and vice verso is a good thing [;)] Oddly enough it doesn't seem to run during the winter months or maybe it's not possible to book that far in advance?

Lucylastic -> RE: MEGABUS???? (9/11/2011 5:09:27 PM)

they dont seem to advertise more than a month or so in advance, but I know I was looking back in the winter, the last time I asked on here... my daughter used it back in april but she couldnt book before the middle of feb.She lovedi t:) If she ad the chance to move to Montreal she would:)

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: MEGABUS???? (9/11/2011 5:16:40 PM)

Ah okay. That would stress me out a bit, I'm kinda anal when it come to having travel plans arranged [:D]

Lucylastic -> RE: MEGABUS???? (9/11/2011 5:22:49 PM)

ME too, I want to walk outside m y house and be at my destination, all the bits inbetween are a nightmare to be endured but not enjoyed.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: MEGABUS???? (9/11/2011 5:29:53 PM)

tolovetolaugh -> RE: MEGABUS???? (9/11/2011 6:51:44 PM)

Where do you find the one dollar deals on the site?

Lucylastic -> RE: MEGABUS???? (9/11/2011 7:24:55 PM)

DOnt have a clue, I think its luck, during the week seems to be your best bet for the cheaper prices.

littlewonder -> RE: MEGABUS???? (9/11/2011 7:27:51 PM)

yeah it's a chance thing to get the one dollar deals. You can also find out by signing up for their special email announcements that will tell you when they're available and even then the $1 deals aren't available on every route at all times. Usually it's on certain routes and certain times of the day.

Lucylastic -> RE: MEGABUS???? (9/11/2011 7:35:26 PM)

btw Little wonder, thanks, I believe you helped me when I questioned Mega bus a few months ago:)

littlewonder -> RE: MEGABUS???? (9/11/2011 7:42:12 PM)

no problem. I used to ride the buses alllllll the time to the point I used to know their schedules backwards and forwards lol.

I just can't do the cramped crowded feeling anymore. I need my space these days.

heartcream -> RE: MEGABUS???? (9/11/2011 8:17:06 PM)

Bit of a Megabus expert by now. Have done Montreal to Toronto vice versa and Toronto to NYC and back many times. It is a tad rough. I usta do the Amtrak Via Rail, NYC and Toronto and that is pretty nice. It is along the Hudson River. It costs more to do that ride than it does to fly. I do the Megabus to NYC and pay just over a Bill return. To get the one dollar deal you need to be one of the first five to book the ticket. I was heading to Niagra Falls and when I booked the ticket it was a buck! The return was like 13$ so it was a cheap ride and they even refunded me when I didnt go, I dunno like 24-48 hour notice I think it is to get a refund.

I have had a bad time on the bus and more often it has been fine. Too freaking long but fine. I bring things to help me through the ride. Fresh food and a sheet or blanket because the "air" is so freaking drafty and cold. Headphones, way too many people talking loudly on their phones. There is no over head rack so everything needs to go under the seat, unless you stow under the bus when you board. I traveled from NYC to Toronto last summer during Caribana and that was a freaking nightmare. When I went this summer I made sure I was nowhere near Caribana time. Yikes that was just way too intense. It is super annoying in some ways to take those buses but after having done it over and over I can vouch it is mostly fine.

The buses are equipped with anti-theft devices and going through the border is so bad anywhere but going over on a Megabus is a real chore. They shut off the recycled air, shut the door of the bus while the driver goes in to check in at Immigration, the Bus area. We sit on the bus sucking in nasty dead air and then file off, grab all out stuff, every last scrap of it and then file through Custom's with our suitcases and some of us are taken aside and further searched. They take the busdriver's passport so he cant drive away. This particular time I was not further searched and we all seemed on time to get back on the bs when the bus would not turn on. Because we were under a concrete pass, the bus thought it was under a bridge and simply would not go. He was on the phone with Headquarters trying different codes to jump start the bus but nope, it acted like it was being stolen and was on lock down. We had to wait an hour for another bus, a regular coach bus and detour into St Catherine's. That really sucked but all in all the bus is fine. Disgusting and uncomfortable at times but I would do it again if I needed to get somewhere on the inexpensive.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: MEGABUS???? (9/12/2011 2:14:34 PM)

Compared to Greyhound buses how would those of you who have traveled on the Megabus rate it for comfort? How spacious are the seats? I ask because I have a hip problem so it's important that there be leg room. Greyhound does.

MileHighM -> RE: MEGABUS???? (9/12/2011 3:12:48 PM)

At 6'4" the bus ain't for me. Sitting in an airplane, in the extra legroom section, for 5 hours is punishment enough. I think the bus is better left for the desperate.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: MEGABUS???? (9/12/2011 3:48:24 PM)

Well I'm not that tall so it's not an issue for me. Actually I find Greyhound buses super comfy.
