"Your perfume must be very strong to hide your own stench."

Just what the fuck do you mean by that ? I am admitting all the time that I am a racist, I also advocate population reduction, but not by racial standards.

Are you actually a real live bigot here ? Just what is this stench to which you refer ?

T^T

Just watched Mississippi burning for the n'th time and I would be inclined to agree.

Anyone who uses race, or religion as a means to subdue others is to me the worst kind of asshole. Fair enough, one can dislike that s personal opinion and with that, live with it, but as soon as someone acts on their prejudice, that separetes them from the reality, the perpetraitors are not fit to be considered human.

I've waited for this thread to die down a bit before adding My comments.  I do want to thank the OP for posting the link where the book can be found.  It did give Me a tinge of disappointment to know that the book is out of print.  I think a lot of us read Orwell growing up and it's almost sad that other folks won't experience it like we did.

A quick side note.  Was I the only one who couldn't access the pages at the end of Chapter Two?

To the original, I don't think we're quite in the position where the Ministry of Truth can quite grasp us.  We're still doing well with input as well as output.  Anybody can print out and save any information that they want.  Getting all of that would be an insurmountable job.  As people do it less, we might want to think about the question more.

One quick word on books.  In My head, there was a significant different between fiction and non fiction.  For the support for the story, one has to realize that the task of hunting down pages in print wouldn't have been the task that was supposed.  Fiction, and even porn, was printed regularly.  It was historical accounts that were a threat and why books on the past were the priority.  I always felt this was why Mr Charrington's shop fascinated Winston so.

Just to clarify, LadyP, 1984 is out of copyright, not out of print.  Since publishers don't have to pay rolyalties to print it, and websites don't get sued for posting the whole thing, I'd say we are safe from the latter.  God help us all if that book gets hard to find.
