Calling for an honest discussion about the Social Security issue is responsible. If Perry sees it as a ponzi scheme, as many people do, whats wrong with him saying so, and thereby starting a very necessary discussion?

Its a strange mindset that views calling for a dialogue on a serious issue as something that is totally evil, and by your demagoging Perrys call for dialogue you are actually the one who is using "scare tactics"

Using a segment of the population for political leverage is deplorable... and its something both sides do it to varying degrees.

It`s not honest.

Given that the cons are bent on destroying the SS system and the social safety net,............ and have been for the last 40 years kinda paints your "concern" as bullshit.

To say you didn`t care about the SS system would be understating.

You want it gone and ended and with nothing to replace it.

You`re anithetical to SS or any welfare.We know that.Trying to hide that fact only makes you look even more dishonest.

That`s where the discussion starts.....as far as any far rightists goes.

Let us for a moment consider Perry's contradictory stance where SS is concerned.....on the one hand he says it is a monstrous lie,it is un constitutional and it is a ponzi scheme.
And than,and I would bet shortly after someone reminded the idiot that the elderly vote,he writes an op-ed wherein he describes how he would fix this monstrous,unConstitutional ponzi scheme.WTF if it is everything he says it is why doesn't he,as a candidate of conscious tell us how he will get rid of it ?
Which is it Gov.Perry a ponzi scheme or a well intentioned program that will need some tweaking to remain what it has come to be for generations of Americans....a bulwark against poverty in their old age.

Saying its a ponzi scheme is in itself a scare tactic. look how much interest it has sparked. Ponzi scheme is sposed to be "illegal' now its gettin the elderly panicked about getting it cut off when its something they rely on..
Not having a reality plan to reform doesnt add to a tranquil mind or trust in the man.

How did he do in the Debate tonight,I'm just now watching a delayed broadcast of it(Miami against New England took precedent over these clowns....lol)?
It being in Florida and all I'm sure some of his co candidates raked him over the coals on this loon stance.

A bit of a startling moment happened near the end of Monday night's CNN debate when a hypothetical question was posed to Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas).

What do you tell a guy who is sick, goes into a coma and doesn't have health insurance? Who pays for his coverage? "Are you saying society should just let him die?" Wolf Blitzer asked.

"Yeah!" several members of the crowd yelled out.

Paul interjected to offer an explanation for how this was, more-or-less, the root choice of a free society. He added that communities and non-government institutions can fill the void that the public sector is currently playing.

"We never turned anybody away form the hospital," he said of his volunteer work for churches and his career as a doctor. "We have given up on this whole concept that we might take care of ourselves, assume responsibility for ourselves ... that's the reason the cost is so high."

The answer may have struck a truly libertarian tone but it was clearly overshadowed by the members of the crowd who enthusiastically cheered the prospect of letting a man die rather than picking up the tab for his coverage

I agree and disagree. People who call SS a Ponzi scheme generally do it on the basis that the younger generations are paying for the SS obligations to the elder...which is remarkably like a Ponzi scheme operates.

I don't believe it's original incarnation was intended as one, but it does certainly feel a lot like one now. Enough so that I'd give up everything I put into it if they'd just let me opt out.

(And really that'd solve my one issue with SS. Let me opt out and I'd have no issue with it.)

Forgive me the slight derail...but did I just see Bachmann bitch slap Perry over his ties to a certain drug company and an executive order requiring 12 year old girls to get a vaccine

And did that same Candidate Perry claim that though he made a mistake at the end of the day he is always going to err on the side of life...this same Gov. Who refused to grant a stay and allowed an innocent man to be executed
