I thought that the Taliban were destroyed already? Just before the war on Iraq started wasn't there a load of press saying that we'd done the job in Afgan?

I like the way it says US led coalition forces, that means bad news, when its good news it just says US forces.

Killing 50 militants is pointless if you are going to kill 16 civilians at the same time because you can bet the incident of killing innocent civilians has just recruited another 100 fighters for the Taliban.

No. I actually try to bring interesting articles of importance to peoples attention. That particular person is of no consequence to me one way or the other. If I want to see pointless babble from talking heads I'll turn on FOX. [:)]

What should have been done then? You have a larger enemy in close proximity, hell basically impacted with civilians in thier homes, would you rather have ground troops attempt to storm the buildings one by one? Just because US troops are the best does not mean they are bulletproof.

Lets not bring another white haired hick into this, we're there, thats all there is to it, what our people do there is what matters, not what they do wrong or right at least in our civilian eyes but to make sure they do get home alive, this is not somehting where we can will that all our people can suddenly be beamed over, theyre stuck there, and they need to survive. Critizing operations just fucks things up...what other options where open? Go ahead and let the enemy go? yeah tahts smart, go and try to send ground troops in and get killed needlesly? screw that, or get the TACPs to call in an airstrike and have a warthog take care of everything while you and the rest of your people get back and live one more day?

I'd go for option 3. I'd rather see 80 of them dead than 1 of ours.

I think you would find that British troops would not have resorted to long range video killing because of the reason stated above. To needlessly kill innocent civilians only recruits more terrorists. If the buildings can't be stormed then there is always another day. If you kill innocent civilians with the terrorists there will also be another day but with different terrorists newly recruited by the original killings.

As for fighting incursions I would question if American troops are the best. Anyone can bomb a place to bits from long range if they have the technology. That takes no guts at all.

Actually long range American killing is a pretty sore point with the British because British troops have been victim more than once to American video killing.

I think you will find in one incident the British did fight with bayonets rather than blow a whole village apart and killing civilians in the process.

Dumbshit, if any former president is to blame for the the state of Afghanistan, the taliban, and anti-americanism throughout west Asia, it's Bush Sr.  Had he assisted the rebuilding of the collapsed Afghan civilization as soon as the Soviets left, everything would have been different.

THe dirty little secret G.W. Bush doesn't want you to know?  The ideological root of the taliban is in Pakistan.  The war with the taliban cannot be won, until Pakistan (our closest regional ally) is confronted.

I guess if your'e going to blame Bush Sr. for the problems in the Middle East, lets go to the real start of the problem. Jimmy Carter, another Democrat was President when a bunch of terrorists took over OUR embassy and did absolutely nothing about it for well over a year. They were released the day Ronald Reagon was sworn into office.

Really, I see it more as a period of peace interrupted by a bunch of criminals and an over-reaction by a government, both sides being motivated by religious extremism.

Ask yourself, what would happen if we surrendered?  The Islamic "republics" have proven themselves unable to govern themselves.  Can you just see them trying to "take over" the functions of Vermont, let alone the US?

As I've said repeatedly, the terrorists are a threat to citizens of the US, not to the US itself.  For us to lose our freedoms, we need a native born facist, carried away with fear and power.

[sad shake of head]  There is history.  The "Real start of the problem" a few decades ago?  You ever hear of a guy named Arthur James Balfour?  Even that's working a bit late.  Do you know what happened when the Babylonian Captivity ended?

Go home. These countries had bad rulers because the USA and other western countries supported those rulers. It is clear who are the victims here and it is not the USA. Those supposed terrorist attacks were simply a pretext to conquer those countries. By getting so agitated about it the USA citizens are their own worst enemy. In ancient Rome if anything like that happened the citizens would have painfully killed their emperor and dragged his corpse by hooks down the stairs to the river Tiber. Seems to me those Romans were smart guys. If the same was done to any American president after any war he was involved in, we would have had a lot less wars. It should be in the Constitution.
