What's your "style?" - 5/22/2006 4:03:19 AM

OK, when I realized that there are Goreans and Old Gaurd, among other labelled styles, it made me stop and evaluate what my style is.  I began to realize that, as spiritual as I am, my religion and honor code are very heavy influences on my M.O. as a Dom.  So, my Dom style is "Norse Bushido" based.

Now I don't want to discourage Gor or Old Gaurd adherents to stay out of this, not by a long shot.  But I am really more interested in hearing about more unorthodox styles, ESPECIALLY if they are strangely fused into a hybrid of Old Gaurd or Gor and something else.

So...what's your "style?"

OK, could I get at least a little explanations on those, please?

My style in the bedroom/scening is Do what I tell you to do and we will get along just fine. I will take you to places you only dreamt about going. Outside of the bedroom/scening we are equal partners, but its understood I make the final decisions.

I concern myself with the relationship I have with my Dom, regardless of anyone else's opinions.  The only conventions/protocols that concern me are those that we have or he institutes.  I don't do some of the things that many people seem to be into - Gore, slash speak, third person talk, Master-is-omnipotent, to me that stuff is not real.

My style is NOT to follow crowds or rituals that others think may be necessary to be part of the “in” crowd. There are many beliefs that I agree with in the Gore world or other worlds but I won’t lose my identity to chants, their order or any thing else that just isn’t me….

Gor (or Gore, whatever) never did appeal to me.  Identity integrity is very important to me, both of rme and for anyone who submits to me.  My biggest problem with the Gorean lifestyle is it truly precludes a joining between two Doms without some seriously dangerous risks.  There are exceptions, but they are rare.

I identify more with Near Eastern/Arabic style ownership, and am fond of ritual and formality. I have a noted and vocal distaste for the warm, fluffy PC clique that is predominant in the D/s world today. But thats ok, because they have the same distaste for me.

Wow the list of influencing cultural ideas would be long and confusing at first glance, LOL. But I'll give it a shot.

I tend towards Old Guard Gay leather traditions with influences of Roman and greek style slavery with a dash of what is historicly documented as honor slavery.
Similar to the practice in some cultures when if you save the man's life he is bound by honor to be your slave for life. The kind of volentary consent to servitude based on personal honor of the slave.

Dear VandalHeart, Ladies and Gentlemen;

I am of the belief that the 'lifestyle' borrows many things that have a dominant and submissive foundation.  We identify with four foundational authority and submission to authority, within Relgion, Military, Imperial and Ceremony.

Each civilization marker has things we can identify, to which I see some posters already grasping such.

From the slaves before Christ, through the craddle of civilization, in Scorates and Aristotle who were both slaves and impact what civilization is today.  From the class systems of Ancient warrior's codes of Bushido, the Spanish flavors of "Imperial Courts" and the Inquisition to which many tortures were created.  The Baroque period, the Classical era, the Revolutionary periods, the Victorian and or Civil War periods, and through Modern BDSM, Old Guard, Modern Guard, New Guard, Old School and such.

What is more important is how it practiced in individual's own way, as to make it a unique style of its own.  It really is something to savor and appreciate, as so many examples of the dominant/submissive interactions, as to inspire us and inspire books and novels such as "Gor," to which hide within the veils of a different counter-earth, historically based cultures of dominance and submission on a globle philosophy.

As for me, I borrow much from everything however, the total sum--it is Lady Hugs' style.

Respectfully submitted for consideration,
Lady Hugs

My 'style' is as a 'lifestyle' and one that has us reach our goals. I have tried to convey and will continue, that 'Old Guard' and Gor/Kajira are only topics of discussions or even considered a lifestlye because and only because of the traction they receive on the Internet.

Your 'style' is whatever you want and to seek comentary in the forums simply opens the debate of a lifestyle (Old Guard) that is all but in the closet or would be but for then net, or in some other radical historical context (Gor) that would likely otherwise be suffering the same fate.

Trust me, there were no kinkroids in a 50's households, Gor or 'Old Guard' before the net sitting around debating lifestlyles as we now do via the kinkosphere.

My style is my own. Over the years, I found things that work and work well for me, and come from Old Guard, New Guard, European, Japanese, Victorian, military, and more. Other than my House name, I think the term "Delightfully Ecclectic" applies.

My style is 21st Century Neo-Amish Swiss Guard.

This would be a great opportunity for someone to design one of those Briggs-Meyers style personality tests.....answer a 175-part questionnaire and a TSLM would be True Submissive Leather Masochist. FWDS would be Fucking Wannabe Diaper Slut, and so on....
