I have to ask, tazzy.

How on earth did you ever keep up with that?  I seriously can't imagine it.

Cheeta Chat made things so easy! You could lock in nics and passwords and never have to worry about losing them.

Just for an example.. one nic I had was officersluttazzy.... lol... many were just silly twists on the tazzy nic.

I put Kept within Reason too

I have a couple of profiles on other forums, usually one for the munch and one for myself - the rule there though is to state on each profile which profiles you use.

I don't understand doing that at all. Does being made fun of or having the thread hijacked - which almost inevitably happens these days - hurt any less just because it's not the person's usual account? I wouldn't even do that because it WOULD still hurt if people made fun of my question when it was a question that would make me feel vulnerable to ask. I much prefer asking friends privately.

Ok, ok, you got me! I confess!

I have 2 accounts that I don't ever use on either side of the site.
One was made to try and figure out the issue many of us experienced with the
text in our profiles. I figured it was best to keep my profile as intact as possible
while using a blank account to test some of the suggested fixes.

The other was to lay claim to an id that I had used in another venue,
and I didn't want it being used here as an association to that id.

I voted To Be Kept Within Reason. I giggle whenever Arswipe and ILustAfterPeon
show up on the boards, and I don't see those puppets as having ill intent.
I think giggling should be mandatory on the boards.

I think I have witnessed a few puppets chiming in to bolster support of their
main account, and while I wont lose sleep over it, it does tend to diminish their
believabilty factor for me, but that is their loss, not mine.

And then we have the every other day woman/man/person, who at their current
rate could easily acquire 50 plus accounts in a months time. I would like to have
a way to keep those accounts as active if it is somehow helping the site with revenue,
but deny access to the user. It can be done, but would require additional staff.

I can see numerous valid reasons for socks.

1. I have a very personal question and don't want it known it's me (kiarsia).
2. Silliness (arswine, ILustAfterPeon, Fejjj).
3. When I first joined cm, I asked a question so bad, I want a do-over (numerous posters should be availing themselves of this).
4. On Fet, there are at least two people who have multiple personalities that create separate accounts for each personality (I'm not sure that qualifies).

I find it very easy to detect most socks, and assume that any sock-eradication would be so difficult to be almost unworkable.  I'm voting No.

I can't answer the part if it would hurt any less since I haven't done it.  But perhaps it saves people embarrassment, knowing the "Oh that's stupid" type of comments would not be attributed to the name people know on the boards?  Or there are those who are in painful relationships who are confused and seriously don't know if what's happening to them is OK or not...and don't want their dominant to see they are asking about it.  Maybe a fear thing.  Having been in emotionally unhealthy/abusive relationships before, I do know a person can feel very lost and confused and really no longer know how to recognize if they're in the right place or not.  But that's probably another topic entirely.

I've seen folks do the "what if" scenario under a false name, so the other parties wouldn't know, but it's like reading Dear Abby and seeing your life right there, isn't it? Wouldnt the other persons KNOW by reading the situation?

So, I don't really get that, I would turn to my friends for that kind of advice, rather than tossing it out for the interwebs at large. But that's how I feel about all the specific relationship questions! I will try to offer some sensible advice if I can, but I always wonder if the poster is just looking for validation.

I rarely think there is any 'wondering' about it. I would say the greater percentile are just looking for validation. They've already made up their minds as to what is 'right'. Generally, I think they are just trying to prove something to the other party/ies involved. I always enjoy watching that blow up in their face.

I *might* open a new account to ask about a fetish that I didn't want people to know I was into. But I'm more likely to use the search feature for old threads about it. Although I can never get the search feature to work properly for me.

I can see other people making a sock to ask about something. A few years ago, I had what I thought was a legitimate question that I posted on the Poly board. Omyword!!! The responses I got were really off the wall!! I was newer then, so fewer people knew who I was. I think that if I asked something like that now, with a whole lot of people knowing who I am, I might get some actual advice. So that's one way that asking as a new sock could skew the responses one gets.

Now on to the OP's suggestion that us honest hardworking sockpuppets be banned from the boards, I have just one thing to say. It is materialist discrimination. You think that your flesh  is so superior, well I'll have you know my cotton/nylon blend is in no way inferior to your flesh, and it doesn't make me any less deserving of respect. You and your fleshist ilk should be ashamed of your selves, it's not like I asked to be a sock, It's just the way the good Lord Haines chose to manufacture me.

Have a little decency and compassion!

If you were a 100% cotton sock puppet I could respect you but cotton/nylon blend? pffft you'll never get respect here, not from me anyway

Oh I agree completely. I was thing along the lines of something not relationship related; someone hurting who might post about it. Still with the current climate here I wouldn't post anything personal unless it's funny.
