It's not uncommon in places like Vermont or Maine for people to keep a nonfunctional fridge or freezer on the porch. They're used as spare freezers during the winter, when the weather is solidly below freezing and no need to use electricity.

anyplace I lived in PA it was illegal to have a couch or appliance sitting on your porch and you'd get a pretty hefty fine for such things.

Windchimes just get on my nerves. Sure it's pretty at first during the daytime but when you're trying to sleep at night I just wanna go out and tear them down.

Oh yeah, we also have a nonworking motorcycle around, courtesy of the oldest stepson who tended to collect such stuff planning to fix and sell them in the future. I think there's a dirt bike that was his and a mountain bike in need of repair also.

No junk in my yard, or in my neighbors.  I've never lived in that type of environment and don't plan to.

I do have wind chimes.  So do most of my neighbors.  Not a problem here.

Technically, it is not so much a car as an old RV that doesn't run, but it is on blocks, so I said one. I admit I am kind of a redneck, though.

That's why ours is down by the river, we hear it when we go there, but not when we are trying to sleep. Well, unless we are sleeping out back for some reason.

FR

Take this thread to ......(I'd say Cuba but I don't have enough money to go there right now)

OK, I think I can live with this, this thread has been hijacked (supposedly) into just what community standards might be. If some motherfucker ever came on my property and told me what I can and can't have there I would most likely shoot him. You may think I am full of shit but I really would. If I can't do what I want I would rather be dead. The city knows this and will not fuck with me.

The problem is I am moving, and I don't know about the new place. Really I will just do what I do. I am not gong to ask them every little thing. Fuck all that. If they fuck with me i'll break out an arsenal that'll make RealO drool. You see I am not an idiot who persues hundred year old shit all the time. I'll whack them with their own rules. The loopholes are there, they always are.

But there is another concern. Do you think it's right for someone else to tell you what you are allowed to have on what is supposedly your property ? I mean of course a nuclear bomb would be a matter of some concern but there are other things, such as - a car up on blocks.

And conversely, do you presume the right to tell others in your community what they can and cannot have on what is supposedly their property ?

Who the fuck do you think you are ? Who the fuck do they think they are ?

Go fuck yourself, go fuck myself.

While I wouldn't tell a neighbor what he/she can or can't have on their property, some communities have HOA (?) rules that residents must abide by.

But then I don't see you buying into that.

Most communities have zoning rules, thank god. I would hate to live in a place where a Walmart could just get built next door to me with no regulation. And many subdivisions have HOA rules that prohibit shit like, well, cars on blocks. If you don't like it, don't live somewhere where they have zoning and covenants.

I seen very strict towns- and very loose towns.  I think somewhere in the middle is a good place to live.

I think someplace with clear rules that are uniformly enforced is a good place to live

I can understand about the front. The lawn, possibly the porch, as far as the visible part. But when they start telling me what I can have in the backyard that's just fucking wrong. I remember a buddy telling me that a neighbor called the cops on another neighbor for having a jetski in the driveway. I was floored. Where the hell are you supposed to put something like that, in the attic ?

The name of the town - Independence, Ohio. Some joke of a name huh. I didn't rent this place. They didn't rent that place. And I have no problem with having zoning, like - residential. Much as we need industry we don't need a steel mill across the street, but this is ridiculous. It's not like you live in a historic district, which I never would. They tell you what color to paint your house.

But then I guess nobody really owns anything.

My closest neighbours only complain when they don't get fed.

The rest can barely even see the house when they drive by........I am pretty sure they haven't a clue if there are any spare vehicles sitting around. Our closest neighbour to the west, about 1/2 mile away, has a few cars sitting around but then he is a mechanic so I rather expect it. I don't have to see it and rarely do, so I don't care. Although I have heard that the people that live to the north of us are quite cranky about the way it's getting....."Horrible junk cars sitting around and too much noise!" but that's a seventy something woman with too much time on her hands. The last time I drove over there I didn't see anything that wasn't in process of work.
