WCPD09 -> Identify Fake Profiles (9/13/2011 5:29:29 PM)

For most reasonably intelligent people, identifying a fake profile takes mere seconds. Yes, the one of the 22 year old, 5'10", 110 lb blue eyed blonds with 36DDs in her pictures...probably not real (sorry to offend anyone meeting that description or implying thats the ideal). Regardless, if you're ever confused there is a simple tool which is pretty reliable. I have no commercial or other interest in the product, but there is a plug-in called TinEye which is a reverse image search tool. You can install it and right click on any image on the internet and it quickly searches almost 2 billion imagines and tell you if there are other versions of that same picture online. It even finds "similar" or modified images. Its free and I've been shocked at how many profiles include pictures available on porn or other sites online. Why CM doesn't screen posted photos this way is beyond me.

Kaliko -> RE: Identify Fake Profiles (9/13/2011 5:32:10 PM)

I read on here recently that Google Images does that, also. I've tried it, though, with a picture of myself that I know for a fact is plastered all over the web, and it didn't pick it up, so..I wonder how reliable those things are.

It did work with another picture, though. So, I guess it could be accurate, just not always.

WCPD09 -> RE: Identify Fake Profiles (9/13/2011 5:35:04 PM)

I think it all depends on how big the "comparison" database is. TinEye is almost billion images. I'm sure there are multiples of that actually on the internet. But my sense is when suggesting a photo is not out there, that doesn't validate a profile as real, if it does turn up the image elsewhere, thats a pretty good indication that its likely not.

Yes,..if nothing else, it could rule some profiles out.

BKSir -> RE: Identify Fake Profiles (9/13/2011 5:43:08 PM)

What? You're telling me that the 60some, 5'5" tall, 23 year old porn stars that have viewed my profile since the beginning of the month are fake? O.o Goddamnit!

Seriously though, TinEye is actually a pretty good program, and I would wager that the database is going to be constantly growing.

Maybe I'm just lazy, but I don't really give a damn about fake profiles, especially not enough to suss them out with anything other than my own instincts.

i would have thought that cm would be bothered about people who use other people's photo's but apparently not. i have twice reported one user for using the cropped image of an actor and yet he is still using it months later. i guess copyrights don't matter here so who care who uses who's photo's.

Epytropos -> RE: Identify Fake Profiles (9/14/2011 11:44:29 AM)

TinEye is something I've used for years, though I've never tried it on profile pics. It works quite well. I can't speak for the Google version, having not used it, but TinEye is quite functional. Imperfect, of course - I had one just today I know I've seen somewhere else that it didn't find - but still quite useful

The problem is, it is not your picture, so you are in no legal position to dispute their use of it. It is possible that the profile is the actor, or perhaps has attained permission to use the picture. The  rules for reporting pictures are quite clear. If you are the owner of the copyright to the picture then you can ask to have it removed, and after you establish (according to CM's quite clearly laid out guidelines and methods) that you are the owner of the picture, it will be taken down. Your silly suppositions can be easily set aside if you would only take the time to read the various rules and guidelines readily available on the site.

Now, to the OP. Just because a picture IS available on the Net does not mean the profile is fake. granted it is a pretty darn good indication of it, but it is not for sure. Angelina Jolie is rumoured to be kinky, so it is possible she has a profile on here or on Fet. If a woman has posed for some professional porn shots for some other site, why on earth wouldn't she want to use those very flattering shots on here. As well, if there was a picture of yourself that was plastered all over the net already, then it sort of makes sense to limit the number of such shots so publicised and to reuse the ones that are already out there.

Now, I am not stating that any of the above is the case, only that they are valid reasons why one might use a picture that is already available online.

IrishMist -> RE: Identify Fake Profiles (9/14/2011 12:16:27 PM)

It's quite easy to see that yours is fake. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Arpig -> RE: Identify Fake Profiles (9/14/2011 12:22:36 PM)

Just as a point of interest, my avatar, which I did get off the web, does not turn up in a Tineye search.

Do you mind if I ask you a question?  Have you really thought this through?

Well, you might have.  You've got yourself one of those famous avatars with the head chopped off.  You don't have to worry about the site (or anybody else) using some program to try to identify you.

All you're doing, once again, is reinforcing folks to have fear not to post a pic of themselves.  Brav-the fuck-O.  Encourage people just a bit more not to post real pictures of themselves or their face because somebody, somewhere, will try to use that information to out them.

Play the tape to the end.  Where does this kind of thing lead us?

actually there is nothing silly about it at all. i know the man who has the profile is not the actor himself. after i pointed out to him that he could get into trouble for using a picture that is not his, after he had checked out my profile, he tolded me, in his words....' its me - so fuck you! - Ill send you the rest of me.' and he did. the pic he sent of himself is so way off it's unreal. i seriously doubt the actor in question, who is very famous, has given this random guy permission to use his picture on this site. i also happen to know for sure which full photo the crop comes from.

9.4. Photographs - In order to promote Your profile, You may upload photographs of Yourself. The content of these pictures may be at Your discretion, as long as they do not violate any of the other terms of this Agreement. However, collarme.com reserves the right to reject any image, at any time, for any reason.

9.4.1. By uploading any photographs of Yourself, You hereby swear that You own or control all intellectual property rights with respect to the uploaded photographs; and,

i think you will find that the above covers exactly what i was saying. you can post photo's of YOURSELF and swear that you own the rights to that photo. again, the person is not the actor and i seriously doubt that the guy has permission to use it. now while people do post photo's of others in their profiles the site will assume that permission has been given unless someone complains i'm guessing. however, if a photo is reported as actually being lifted from the net and very identifiable as a particular person then i think proof of permission and copyright should be asked for at the very least. if that person can't/won't provide it then the photo should be removed. this is not some scenic view that just happens to be there, the guy is claiming it's actually himself and it's not.

as this site claim to own everything within the site then i guess that they also own the responsibility for the content. hence, cm are allowing the copyright breach. it's easy to claim ignorance to a point with a membership as big as this site has, but where something is reported then it should be delt with.

Arpig -> RE: Identify Fake Profiles (9/14/2011 1:05:09 PM)

Good old needles, not actually reading the post she is replying to.

And when you reported the photograph, did you provide proof that the one who made the profile was not the owner of the photograph and/or didn't have permission to use it? No, I didn't think so.

The reason that CM doesn't just remove pictures when you say they belong to somebody else is because they do not KNOW who owns the picture. If you provide them proof that you own the picture, or notify the owner of the picture (not always the one in the picture, or the photographer BTW) and the owner of the picture provides them with such proof, the picture will be removed.

Otherwise it is no different from the blacklisting issue, it is your word against theirs. Lets say some HNG writes you and you reject his approach. To get back at you he saves your pictures, posts them online then reports it to CM giving the URLs of where he had posted them as evidence that your picture isn't you.

Now, what should CM do?
1. Take his word for it and remove your picture.
2. Check with you to confirm that you do in fact own the picture (This would involve you proving your identity)
3. Allow the accuser to prove their identity and ownership of the picture.
4. Ignore it and not get involved in some petty revenge scheme intended to harass you.

I am assuming you will go with #3, and in the absence of any such evidence to default to #4. So how, in the eyes of the CM staff, does your reporting his picture differ from the HNG reporting yours.

Here are the guidelines the site uses for reporting stolen photos:
http://www.collarme.com/personals/stolen.htm
and
http://www.collarme.com/personals/dmca.htm

As you can see, you did not follow either of the procedures clearly set out on the pages linked at the bottom of every page on the other side, so your reports were put right where they belonged...the circular file.

RTFM.

lockedaway -> RE: Identify Fake Profiles (9/14/2011 1:12:19 PM)

So ridiculous.  But then most of what you post is drivel!  I have reported fake profiles and gotten them taken down. :)  In fact, I just got one removed not more than two weeks ago and you can contact VideoAdminAlpha and verify it.  The fact is that there are a great many fake profiles on CM and pointing them out is a public service.

So...point out the profiles you think are fake to the mods, supply the reasons for your conclusions and you might just find that profile(s) gets removed.

actually arpig, how the hell would you know what i did? you don't. i contacted admin by the required channels and got nothing. i think you will also find that i said admin should investigate a reported photo. now as for my own, i can prove who i am and that i took my photos, it's very simple. someone else can say what they like but if admin want to ask me questions they can. i have no problem at all in identifying myself to anyone who controls the site either. so if someone were to report me i'd have no issue. my photos are me and i know what i've posted. should admin contact me reguarding a false profile then i'll tell them it's false and request it deleted.

I know the photo is cropped and i know it's not the guy who has the profile. i have the mail to prove it if admin had bothered to investigate it. it would then be up to this guy to prove he has the rights to the photo and the publishing of it. now granted i don't have the proof that he doesn't own the photo and rights, however, i do know it's not him and he's claiming it is. the photo is actually well known in the media and can be found easily on the net.

so no matter what crap you want to spout to have a dig at me as usual the facts don't change. under the terms set out by this site the guy is breaking the site rules unles he can prove it is him in the photo, which i have proof it is not, and that he owns the rights to that photo, which is extremely unlikely due to the actual person in the photo. when reported admin should investigate it as it is a breach of their own rules and possibly copyright. if this guy can't prove it's him, as he claims, then it should be removed. the actual reporting system is extremely lacking unless you want to report the use of a photo of yourself being used by another. basically if it's not you in the photo it's cool for people to use the photo even though site rules say YOURSELF in YOUR PROFILE. but hey, fuck it, use any picture you like really so long as it's not someone on the site who will recognise themself [8|]
