No outrage, fake or otherwise. Just pointing out an interesting contrast between this presidents lofty rhetoric

[image]http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o153/Rocinante9000/ObamaHalo1.jpg[/image]

...and his actual policies

Owner59 -> RE: They want to shut you up! (9/18/2011 10:11:07 AM)

He was refering to you cons, dragging our country ,our reputaion and our good name down to the level of savages, with your torture.

Not about air safety.

What would you brave cons say if a jet was blown up, killing Americans.

You would make it the center-piece of your campaign and of your very existence.

Is anyone surprised a con would try to exploit our post 9/11 situation for cheap political jerk-off purposes?

Youve got a point. That old woman looks pretty dangerous...

How about we leave you in charge of the sand box and we`ll leave our security, to the adults.

. It's well known that people who clearly couldn't afford mortgages were being led to believe they could.

Sorry, I dont buy it. If someone doesnt know their own finances well enough to know what they can afford they are too dumb to own a house. One woman wanted to sue her mortgage broker because she took all of the equity out of her house to put down a $200,000 deposit on a $1 million Vegas condo. She lost it all. Her income? $15 an hour.

Well, I agree with you but the point being - it happened. Heck, in 2004, I can remember being told by a realtor (whose wife just happened to be a mortgage broker) that I should speak with his wife...that she could get me financing...gave me her card. I didn't follow through, primarily because I knew my financial status at the time precluded me from being a home owner. I have no doubt there were others who bought into the idea, both literally and figuratively. At the time interest rates were low, but getting an adjustable mortgage turned into a disaster. I can't imagine that ever being a good idea.

Adjustables are a gamble, but they are priced to be cheaper than fixed rate mortgages. Obviously when rates are in the high 3%/low 4% theres not much room for them to be a good bet. But when mortgage rates are in the 6-7% range adjustables can make sense if you can afford the increases if they come. With inflation looming, though, I wouldnt buy an adjustable even if it was 3% below fixed.

How about we leave you in charge of nothing, and leave everything to those with a triple digit IQ?

How about this - we elect a president whose words mean something

FR:

"If you love me, you have to help me pass this bill."

Barack Hussein Obama

'nuff said.

Aaaand the problem is?

It sounds like something out of a Lifetime afternoon movie.

Well, the quote was not provided in context, so there is that to consider.

Actually, I had already read a report about it so I really did not need further context.

quote:

Perhaps, rather than criticising the words provided, one should criticise the poster for providing a quote in a manner that suggests something other than how the words were originally spoken.

That would mean that I counted myself as unable to find that information for myself.

quote:

I am curious though...why do those who don't like Obama express their dislike in such hateful terms?

Are you sure that the emotion is hate? I know that many are feeling a range of negative emotions such as anger, frustration, defensive, threatened, insulted, powerless, dehumanized, et cetera, ad naseum.

quote:

Many of the posts I see are so visceral in their response, whether it's a thread they initiate or a response in a thread.

LOL Have you never wondered why the three things that you never discuss in public are sports, politics, and religion? All three are visceral subjects. Affecting your inward feelings. People have a great deal of passion for them. That passion and those feelings come out in their words and actions.

quote:

I'm not saying you, in particular, Aylee, just all those who express themselves in this way.

While IDIC is great in theory, none of us have green blood and so it is unlikely anything will change soon.

Shit happens?

It happened a lot in the 70's. Hi-jackings and some destruction. You might look up what happened at the 1972 Olympics.

I am not sure what happened that there seems to be a belief that we can all be perfectly safe all the time. Things happen. Bad things happen. Bad things will always happen.

Are you trying to say that when people form themselves into societies (supressing one's own greed for the good of society) they have denied themselves the only possible foundation for a successful economy?

When in the past 44 tries have we been successful at that lofty goal?

Let's say that a company like Peterbilt had the opportunity to pick up the GM Truck division, and slap their badge on the nose. Create a product people really want (and a hell of a lot of people would want a Peterbilt pick-up), they are going to get creative, and find a way to make it happen.

Good premis wrong company.
Peterbuilt only builds custom trucks. The customer chooses which engine, trans, differential, axle, etc. Peterbuilt assembles what the customer wants in the chassis design of his choice.
Some 30 odd years ago kenworth built a custom pick up for the president of the company who was retiring. It was really quite a beautiful piece of work...looked like a miniature conventional cab kw with a pick up box with outside fenders. Go west (a trucking industry trade publication) ran the article and pictures.
This 31 year old pick up truck is for sale today for a mere $55,000.
I can't even begin to imagine what it would cost to produce these for public consumption.

(Oh why the fuck not...)

Now that is a nifty toy, Thom.  Honestly, I wasn't even thinking of these needledick compensators, though.  Just the name recognition, the badge, and some styling cues on the hood and fenders would do the trick. Just build a better quality product, than when Dodge reworked the fenders on the Ram 15-20 years ago.

I could have said Mack, of course, but I love the look of a dressed up Pete.

A cusory glance at a studebaker truck would indicate that the dodge work over is the same with a little mascara.

This from your cite.

So what does all this mother trucking cost? Our four-wheel drive crew-cab truck cost $52,171 from GMC, add the Monroe conversion that contributes a pickup bed and almost countless options (dual exhaust stacks, rear-seat DVD, leather seats, power-folding rear bench, hitch camera, adjustable rear air suspension, power-retractable tonneau cover, aluminum wheels, chrome grille), and the TopKick can climb to about $90,000. More-basic versions can be had for closer to $70,000, which is far less than a Hummer H1 and only a bit more than an H2. Faced with those choices, the TopKick looks almost rational.

Compaed to that 30 year old kw at $55,000 the kw seems inexpensive in comparison.
I would like to buy that old kw but I am a little short...do you think he might spot me the $50 k I am shy?[:(]

I could have said Mack, of course, but I love the look of a dressed up Pete.

You gotta be careful with those macks. About every 600 miles or so they just shut down and come to a complete stop while that little dog on the hood hops down to go water down the tires. Once he has cooled off the tires he hops back up on the hood and she will start again.
