I've learned from experience that most of the time, a cooler summer means a colder winter and a hot summer leads to a mild winter. This summer, the weather has shown both extremes. The central US has gone from scorching hot temps to lows in the 40's when autumn doesn't begin for another week. Who else thinks it's cooling off faster than normal this year? Do you think the upcoming winter will be harsh or mild?

After 49 winters in Iowa, I have learned that no matter what, it will be cold, too dark and gloomy, we will get some snow, some ice, and by the end of January I will be a cranky motherfucker.

It will be COLD <though not as cold as back home I suspect> and there will be loads of snow and ice and freezing rain and blizzards, and just over all lovely.

It will be the usual circle of hell. But I spend winter trapped in my office, so I am mainly grateful that I get to park close by, there is central heating, and I have a warm coat.

The fall equinox may not have even hit yet, but I can promise you that it's fall here.  The leaves have already turned and talk of winter being just around the corner was one of the chit chat topics at the munch Tuesday evening.  I haven't been through a winter here yet but due to location, no matter what happens, this will be the worst winter that I've ever experienced.  The heck with the Y.  Thank God for the internet!

A buck stopped outside my window the other day. He already has a long shaggy winter coat. As for me, when it gets too chilly here we'll fire up the motor home and head to Yuma, AZ. Yuma's average daily high temperature in Dec and Jan is 70. Yuma also has more days of sunshine than any other US city. Yes, we're spoiled and I like it that way. Anything is better than a Montana winter at -30 degrees. Oh, by the way, it did snow once in Yuma. It was 1932, however, I'll take my chances.

God made down comforters so that I don't have to put on the heat.
Friggin Shore likes it set at 72 fucking degrees.
I like 65 at the most. I sleep so much better in cool temps.

On the local (radio) news this morning, it was reported in the weather segment, that there was a recordable trace of snow in northern Wisconsin last night.

Aside from that you can speculate all you want and there ain't a damn thing any of us can do about it.....just take it as it comes.....

Being in the last month we've had an earthquake, a hurricane and flooding here, I'm gonna go with a blizzard so big it will be bigger than snowmaggedon and hell really will freeze over.

I`m gathering an extra load or two of firewood just in case.

Two things that make winter more palatable.

Outdoor hot-tubs and snowmobiles.

Me too. Love my quilts and blankies. Need a snugglebunny, though.

I'm getting a bunch of palm wax and I'm gonna make a bunch of candles. A few votives and pillars can really warm up a well-insulated room. Vanilla. Lavender. Cinnamon.

I'll wait till I spot a wooly worm and tell you.

The pattern of black and brown is supposed to give an indication of the upcoming winter according to the mountain folk.

Our real cold here only lasts a short time, and this house is very well insulated.  That said, while I"m a big fan of snuggling under mink blankets and quilts, I fucking hate getting up in a cold house.  Hooray for programmable thermostats, and little ceramic space heaters in the bathroom.

We're the opposite. I like it at 72 plus the down comforter, he likes it at 65.

And whatever it is, it will include snow, ice and sleet. None of which are my favorite things.

After several months of overbearing heat, I walked out into the outdoor rec yard at work a couple days ago, and it was in the high 50s with a good drizzle going on. It felt so incredibly good, so refreshing. I love fall.
