You have clearly failed to understand what you quoted. If somebody changes from bi- supportive to bi-unsupportive, then they require an open mind...one doesn't change one's biases without one. And they had to have been taught something, they have to have learned some new detail which caused them to change their mind. In other words a touch of education.

Your error was in assuming I was only referring to anti- to pro- movement, while I was not. I was pointing out that such movement occurs, without any reference to the direction, and thus it could not be a genetically based bias.

I have the easiest of solutions, everyone should agree with me for the simple reason that I am right.

There.

no, you are wrong. i was at one time open to a relationship with a bisexual guy however i have since changed my mind and opinion on that and now i am not, it has nothing to do with education in any regard.

I think what you are failing to understand is that she is talking about being open or not open, in a sexual manner. That doesn't necessarily equate to being supportive or unsupportive. The two are entirely different spheres. The spheres may overlap, but not necessarily so.

Not being sexually attracted to someone due to their sexual orientation is only possible if one is phobic and bigoted against that orientation.

I have to disagree with you here.  I am not attracted to men who are blonde, nor am I attracted to men who do not have a beard.  Never have been, never will be.

I would not be able to have a relationship with a man who had been in a relationship or a one night stand with another man.  Why? Hellifiknow.  It just turns me off.  That in no way influences the friendships I have with the gay people I have in my life, both male and female.

We are turned on and turned off by what turns us on and off.  It simply is what it is, and not always a phobia or bigotry.

I do not consider a person to be able to control what appeals to them sexually, so I wouldn't dismiss somebody on that basis.

Edit to add that last quote.  See what I mean?  We can not control what turns us on, and many of us do act on that.  Most times, it does not break the law like the example you were given.

If someone has a gender bias for homosexuals, than they also have a gender bias not for heterosexuals.
A gender bias or preference is for males or females, not for homosexuals or heterosexuals.

Homosexual, bisexual, and heterosexual are not genders, they are gender preferences. Therefore, if one is biased against homo/hetero/bisexuals, it is not a gender bias, it is a gender preference bias.

No I am not, because I am not discussing anybody's gender preferences. bisexual is not a gender, it is a gender preference...or rather the lack of a gender preference. Therefor, as I have pointed out twice now (who knows, 3rd time lucky?)\

A preference/bias regarding bisexuals is not a gender preference/bias because bisexual in not a gender. it is for this reason that I can say it isn't genetic.

quote:

I prefer to keep an open mind on the subject, because I believe as regards gender preference, there is a huge step between bias and bigotry.
I agree, however, we aren't talking about gender preferences.

But a bias against a gender preference (e.g. being biased against a homosexual person) is not the same as sexual preference. Sexual preference and what you have described as gender preference bias are two different things.

And you can't say it isn't genetic. What is a result of our genetics and what is a result of our environment in terms of our choices in life is still ongoing in studies. To make an unequivocal statement like that is rather arrogant.
