Besides we weren't talking about "gender bias", we were talking about "gender preference bias". A rather major difference, and one I maintain is not genetic, because people do indeed change in this respect, given an open mind and a touch of education.

Well I can't speak for anybody else, but I am very calm. I am joking about the thread with a friend who is having her morning coffee across the table from me. We are getting quite a chuckle out of some of the things posted.

I'd like to see an example of what you mean.

Sexual preferences are not that malleable.

and it can work in reverse as well, people do go from being open to bisexual men to not being open to them... so.. they go from educated to not???

Of course, bias can work both for and against.

Since bias can work both for and against, your statement above makes zero sense.

If someone has a gender bias for homosexuals, than they also have a gender bias not for heterosexuals.

You can maintain it's not genetic, but the study of DNA has determined that there are groups of genetic markers that effect individual behavior based on minor changes in environment or diet.

Which means a great deal of human behavior that science has always considered learned may not be.

You are showing your own bigotry against those you *think* are bigoted, when they may very well be biased as to their gender preferences based on genetic markers.

I prefer to keep an open mind on the subject, because I believe as regards gender preference, there is a huge step between bias and bigotry.

Just my opinion on what is for me a fascinating subject.

I would recommend a cool shower for the latter. That and an OTC anti-inflammatory. If the high temps continue, you should see a doctor. :D

your hair, for those that have that preference, is hot.

your hair, however, is NOT the PERSONALITY ( I would hope, anyway)

Nowhere. So how is their malleability relevant to anything I said?

So, DevD, what was it you were saying about a lack of factual evidence?

No, you are incorrect. It's because I prefer not to address you in an insulting manner. It would be nice if you extended others that same courtesy.

If you owned this web site you would have that authority. You don't own this web site, therefore you don't have that authority. Simple.

As for the topic.

I get that a lot of women are, or would be, squicked at the idea of 'their man' being with a guy. Considering the ewww factor that our society has instilled in us from day one, I get that. It is a big part of homophobia and violence towards gays, especially gay men.

We can argue what part of that eww, is nature and nurture till we are all blue in the face and our fingers are raw. It doesn't really matter though.

The only aspect of it that I consider, is that I know for a fact that sexuality is a sliding scale. Very very few people, contrary to what they say, or sometimes even believe of themselves, are 100% hetro or gay. That is where I believe the societal conditioning comes in. If a person, male in this instance, is attracted to women and society is making the male attraction hell, he is very likely going to stiffle the male attraction and go with the women.

BUT.......what happens IF he did experiment at some point in life? He believes himself, has convinced himself, he is straight. He very likely feels shame for his past experimentation and because of the stigma, will deny it ever happened. But what if the person/s he experimented with has a reason to 'out' him. OR. what if he meets a man that he feels an overwhelming attraction to? What if he falls in love with a man? After all, as much as we WANT to control everything in our lives, we cannot force ourselves to love, or not. What happens when the woman he loves discovers some part of the above?

How then is male bisexuality different than female bisexuality? Why is it somehow more acceptable and less 'ewwwww'? I don't think you can determine whether that eww factor is nature or nurture. Whatever it is, it is so solidly instilled into who we are at this point in time.

What I was saying about lack of factual evidence was in reference to your comment on my intelligence. I'm sure you know that, but prefer to twist words.

In answer to your question about where in your post did you mention the concept of altering sexual preferences, you said "people do indeed change in this respect, given an open mind and a touch of education."
