As long as Americans are put to work, and the jobs pay well enough so that you're not paying for that family's food stamps, who cares what people buy?

Let 'em buy one less American Made TV for their house. Some of the kids won't get their own in their bedrooms... Boo fucking hoo. At least mom and dad can pay the mortgage and put food on the table.

Person A may get one less TV

But Person B, C, and D all have good paying jobs.

A single TV will support three jobs?  If a TV costs $400, let's assume $100 goes to manufacturing, using a factor of four markup (which used to be typical some thirty years ago - I assume it's still that currently).  Then for a single $70K manufacturing job (wages and benefits), 700 TVs will not be bought.  To support a factory of maybe 400 workers, that's some 3 million televisions that got removed from the US economy per year.

That's a lower standard of living.

Considering that rich republican supporters are sending jobs overseas, chinese ipads will remain cheap.

Of course, if Republicans hate americans so much and ship jobs overseas, maybe the Republicans will ship themselves overseas.

Bill Clinton, G.W. Bush and Obama are obviously all proud rich republicans.

The huge trade deficit can continue only as long as borrowing, budget deficits and easy credit to consumers continues. When dollar will loose its reserve currency status (it is already happening to some extent) the game is up. It is not so important America produces electronics. It should produce some trade-able goods. People often point out the USA is No. 1 exporting nation. The question what it exports in this volume usually does not get answered. There is lot of potential in manufacturing. For example high end quality products are in high demand due to money accumulation in the hands of the top earners/speculators. The US as a "Plutonomy" was diagnosed long time ago. Why do not business people take notice. Is the American spirit dead. If so, there is no hope.

I do advocate outsourcing - of the fucking government. I really don't think anyone could do worse.

T^T

Has our governments been outsourced already ?

I mean, do they speak our language or that of foreign industry ?

Why do they try to make us buy and easier to buy goods made by foreign industries ?

Yeah, buying foreign goods enables industry in our homelands, but does it enable the end user, who are usually just us that moan about the economic hardships we experience.

But the government must survive, because it is an industry itself, it doesn't care where the money comes from, just as long as it continues to exist and that for obvious often selfish reasons.

The numbers really depend on the difference between the import cost pre and post tariff, but the message is correct...there will be a net reduction in US jobs by artificially increasing the price of something without changing the demand.

How can you lose jobs in a manufacturing segment we don't even have?

Face it folks...manufacturing jobs are not coming back to these shores.....it's a brave new world and Americans are going to need to learn how to compete in that new world, not sit around and mope for the return of the old world. It just isn't going to happen ,innovation and invention, education, education, education.

I agree ... and in encouraging local manufacture, it would spare us landfills full of $200 BRICKED Android Tablets killed off by a simple firmware upgrade not too well thought out over in Shanghai.

Protectionism & tariffs were instrumental in turning a recession into the Great Depression. Bad idea all around.

Why would companies pay an American work $7.00 an hour when they can outsource the same work to China or any other developing country for $0.35. To lower unemployment? Thats being Anti-Capitalist and Anti-Business. Basically what your asking for is business to give up their profit margins in favor of reducing unemployment, can it get any more anti-capitalist.

The only way to compete with China is to reduce minimum wage to levels a China or developing country levels. It makes perfect sense to bring the 3rd world policies to America so we economically compete with the 3rd world countries. Now thats capitalism

Besides as Reganomics dictates people will always have money spend, just look at Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Joe Flemming, Bill Gates, Koch Brothers, President Obama and etc they all have a ton of money to spend to buy goods.

Besides I like outsourcing, because instead of illegal immigrants coming to America to steal American jobs, we are bringing the jobs to them.

Has no one noticed the South Korean boom? Ther have HUGE import taxes. Lets look at liquer for instance. A bottle of American whiskey runs around 130,000 wan or 130$ US when I was over there. They make Soju and sell it for around 3000 wan, yes, thats around 3$ US. You tell me which one sells there.

I'll agree, but only so long as WillBe and I take home an absolute maximum of $120 a week ... to keep things in scale.
But wait... if it means dinging his own wallet each week, would WillBe agree?

It's just good capitalism.

Im not sure what point youre trying to make, but the answer to your question is Soju.

"Although beer, whiskey, and wine have been gaining popularity in recent years, soju remains one of the most popular alcoholic beverages in Korea because of its ready availability and relatively low price. More than 3 billion bottles were consumed in South Korea in 2004.[13] In 2006, it was estimated that the average adult Korean (older than 20) had consumed 90 bottles of soju during that year."

Why would I agree when its based on a false premise? And why would I take a decrease when you get an increase?
