He always says that everyone should pay their fair share. That never includes the 50% of the population that pays NO federal income tax. Wouldn't it be fair for everyone to contribute something ?
And just what do you propose should be the fair rate for those who are having a hard time getting by ?
Only an idiot could respond to a call for higher rates by shifting the emphasis on to those who,by dint of having so little,do not earn enough to justify paying federal income tax.
Do you see a windfall coming from this group?

they want the 9 9 9 plan.   9%.

Ron Paul tho would abolish the IRS.

This is one of the most BS lines the GOP pushes, they state 48% of the population does not pay taxes,.  Plain and complete BS

First the 48% they are talking about pay no Federal Taxes..Why???? because their income falls below the poverty level

But that does not mean they pay NO TAXES as you claim, they pay STATE income taxes, county taxes, and they pay taxes on food, gas, bills, heating and  every other dam thing you can purchase in his country, they pay taxes on their phone bills, internet bills,

SO stop the BS idea they pay NO taxes, the tax rates in this country are at the lowest level for millionairess since 1958, every body else is paying a hell of alot more

Plus the tax increase they are talking about will effect less than 2% of small businesses in this country...here read for your self http://www.cbpp.org/files/8-29-08tax.pdf

I find it funny that the class warfare label is given to rasing taxes on people who can afford it, but not to the GOP cutting Pell Grant funding...

I find it funny that libs think the Federal government should be involved in things like Pell Grants.

I think it's funny that you were probably one of the earlier recipients of one and are now bitching.

Lucylastic -> RE: Millionaire tax called 'class warfare' but..... (9/19/2011 12:29:32 PM)

oh Housesub, you know the truth doesnt matter to people like him... he repeats bullshit like its the word of god.
If someone is working below the poverty line he is already doing his part for the economy.
Far more percentage of his money goes back into the economy.
They cant afford to save or invest, because every penny is spent on the basics of living. So they areignored

Isn't that Crrrrrrrazzzy?
Ya'd think there were still people in the US who could rise in affluence and not forget where they came from.
Crazy I tell ya.

Who gives a fuck?  Yes, they pay taxes on things they consume just like the rest of us.  You have a problem with that??  But they pay nothing in federal taxes and THAT IS WRONG.  Every able bodied person has to pay into the kitty.

"ooooo...they make below the poverty level."  Whose fault is that??  It is their fault and the government's fault.  But it isn't my fault.  I have been saying for a long time that the checks are going to run out....and they are.  Social security will be a means tested benefit in only a few short years and, not that long thereafter, that income bar is going to get set lower and lower.

So, yes, conservatives point out (and rightly so) that 48% of the populace in the U.S. does not pay Federal taxes.  That has to change and it is going to.

Trust me, WillBe here got his college loans and Pell Grants... he even went to college when universities were reasonably priced.

What the fuck...it is his base that elected him...what it wrong with him trying to please the folks who sent him to that office....isn't that what he is supposed to do ?

Hillwilliam -> RE: Millionaire tax called 'class warfare' but..... (9/19/2011 12:38:15 PM)

Pell Grants are actually a good investment.

Government gives a Pell Grant to a good student who would not have been able to afford college.

Student graduates.

Due to having more education, student makes more money than he would have with a HS education.

Student pays extra taxes on that income far in excess of the amount of the Pell grant recieved earlier.

Good investment.

Hello Stern, haven't seen you in awhile.  It isn't a question of people becoming affluent and forgetting where they came from.  How do you define affluence?  If you are defining it as a couple with two kids making $250,000.00 per year, that isn't very affluent at all.  If you are talking about a couple making 1million per year and living in one of a dozen different towns on Long Island, NY or New Jersey, for that matter, it isn't affluent either.

The FACT of the matter is that the U.S. government has driven manufacturing out of the country since 1950.  Our private sector has shrunk since 1950.  Our current president has increased that deficit and our national debt to astronomical figures and he wants to spend even more.

Fuck the jobs bill.  Raising taxes to form another WPA isn't going to help this country.  What happens when those infrastructure jobs are completed?  Do we have a WPA indefinitely?  Does the U.S. go into the construction business?  After the bridge is built, where does the worker go next?  Do you really think that a temporary, government jobs program is going to lead to an increase in the private sector?  It isn't.  So what is going to happen is that you are going to hire people to build a bridge and then you will have to look for another bridge...and then something else and so forth and so on?  WHY...you ask?  Because in the year or two that it takes the bridge to be built, the private sector will have shrunk that much more under our current style of stewardship.

Every State Constitution provides for universal public schooling up to 12th grade. Most places have kindergarten as well.

No. Higher education is NOT a right.

From the national taxpayers union. Who is paying income taxes..Top 1%, 38.8 , Top 5%, 58.7. Top 10 %, 69.94. Top 25% 86.36. Top 50% 97.3 . Bottom 50 % of wage earners pay 2.7 %.. It seems to me that the rich are already paying thier fair share..

slvemike4u -> RE: Millionaire tax called 'class warfare' but..... (9/19/2011 1:05:05 PM)

Aylee you do understand that the student has to meet certain criteria to qualify for that Pell Grant...right?

Isn't a Pell Grant just another way of giving a TAX CREDIT for those who qualify?
