The Bush tax cut to the millionaires was sold on the promise that it would "free the 'wealth-creators' to provide jobs".

So where are the jobs? Try China. Clever economics that - cut taxes for the mega-rich in the US so that job creation in China is subsidised by America's working people (soon to become America's used-to-be-working people as their jobs are exported to China).

The jobs haven't materialised. So why shouldn't those who failed to keep their end of the deal, those who failed so obviously and incontrovertibly to provide the promised jobs, be penalised for their failure here?

The mega-rich already getting away with a lot. Why should working people pay for the mega-rich's failure to keep their promises? Why should anyone be rewarded for failing to keep their commitments?

Yet nother glaring failure of neo-liberal ("free market") economics. It's time to dump this discredited failed theory everywhere.

There is no such thing as a "Bush tax cut to millionaires". If you are referring to the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts that gave far more to the lower and middle class than to the wealthy, then you seem to have missed the fact that revenue grew in every year after they hit the economy until the financial crisis.

Only the portion that was directly related to the business would be deductible. It doesnt matter that youre employing them or what you pay them. And only 50% of the business portion would most likely be deductible since thats the maximum that can be deducted for business meals.

No, the chef would be deductible as well. He would just need to hire him as a contractor and file a 1099 or get a separate tax ID number. For the business dinners he would be contracting servers and such, most likely, so I can see the expense hitting $200,000 a year. Getting all of this stuff onto the correct line on the forms is what tax accountants are for. Another expense.

Again, only the portion of the chefs time spent directly on business entertainment. Im speculating about the 50% of the business portion, but it wouldnt suprise me at all.

I find it funny that the class warfare label is given to rasing taxes on people who can afford it, but not to the GOP cutting Pell Grant funding...

I find it funny that libs think the Federal government should be involved in things like Pell Grants.

I find it funny that you think the average person doesnt have a right to an education

Every State Constitution provides for universal public schooling up to 12th grade. Most places have kindergarten as well.

No. Higher education is NOT a right.

and THAT, children, is why America has fallen behind the rest of the world

Yes. Because slackers like you want college degrees handed out like candy instead of being based on merit.

Does the term "Higher Education Bubble" mean ANYTHING to you?

How about "Fuck you". Does that mean anything to you? I go to school full time, and I work about 30 hours a week. How the fuck am I a slacker? Im not, because unlike you boomers, I dont have the luxury of mommy and daddy being able to pay for me to go to college.

Neither did I, and I didnt have Pell Grants or government guaranteed loans to help. The only "right" I thought I had was the right to bust my ass to get in, stay in and graduate. (The last took a bit of time, lol).

Yeah, but you could afford to pay for college yourself back then. I spent about $4000 this semester alone, just on tuition and books, and Im going to have to do it again next semester

You seem to forget inflation. My total bill was about 10k a year, and the only support I got on that was a free dorm bed during the summer because I was working in a school lab.

Hasn't any one told you that higher education is not a right - it's a privilege only available to those who can afford the fees, textbooks and the time to study them properly, attend classes and so on .......? Oh yes Willbur has! How kind of him! *

The economic (or other) merits of educating people not on the basis of their talents or abilities but on the strength of their parent's bank balance has never been clear to me either.

But hey, just ponder the dangers of letting the great unwashed into the hallowed halls of academia. No need for me to point the tragedies and disasters that will inevitably follow adoption of a dangerously socialistic idea such as educating our best and brightest instead of the richest, is there ....?

Whatever next? They'll be demanding adequate health care or an equitable tax regime or something .......

PS: Best wishes with your studies and degree YSG. I know it's tough but it is worth it.

* tweakabelle adds education expert to Willbur's already glowing glittering CV .... medic, war hero, multi millionaire wealth creator, known insurance peddlar, international maritime law expert, economic guru, world class war toy player ......,

Sometimes the disconnect with people from the day to day reality of people going through the same phase they did in a different age makes the grand canyon look like a plumber's crack.
Good luck in school... I don't envy ya having to do it these days.

Oh Fuck! We're going back on topic....Rich Bay Staters ready to pony up for ‘Buffett Rule’
Bay State millionaires welcomed President Obama’s plan to force many of them to pay more in taxes, saying they’re willing to help the country cut its soaring budget deficit. “It’s a matter of simple fairness,” said George Howell, who sold the Boston-based Coffee Connection to Starbucks in 1994. “It doesn’t make me happier to spend more, but if that’s what it is, that’s what it is. ... I had my company in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s and taxes were far higher ... and it did very well.” “I think it’s a great idea, actually,” said Alan McKim, CEO of Clean Harbors. “I just think if people who are doing well can pay more, then we should, but it’s got to be put to use the right away. That’s the only thing I’d ask.”

Ahh. . . it looks like it is only deductible if they watch the children as well.

Yeah, and it averages about $20k a year now. Meanwhile, worker wages have stagnated, and even declined when compared with inflation. Why? Because your generation rejected organized labor, who made sure members got cost of living adjustments every year.

Dayum. I know that I am getting old, but I am not a baby boomer. Are you going to call me fat next?

You fit the 'slacker' term because of your belief that things, like higher education, are rights and should just be given willy-nilly instead of having to be earned.

You want things given to you and you think that someone else should pay. You also lash out at others because you think that they may have gotten something that you did not get.

Grow up.

And really, look up "Higher Education Bubble."

Nope. Never even saw CA (except for basic training, which isnt exactly "seeing it") until 1988.

No, only the ROTC guys. Terry, Frank and Marie (in a Poetic way) are names associated with the town.
