Too tired to resort to google on this one. My bet, since "urchins" are neither considered food or even worth noticing above NYC(once you get down the jersey shore they start eating th shit we throw out) and below I start giving up on thinking of it as the east coast anymore... cept for south carolina .... Oh wait ... I know

Neither did I, and I didnt have Pell Grants or government guaranteed loans to help. The only "right" I thought I had was the right to bust my ass to get in, stay in and graduate. (The last took a bit of time, lol).

So what'd ya do WillBe? Go to a University of California school?

Nope. Never even saw CA (except for basic training, which isnt exactly "seeing it") until 1988.

Is basic training what I think it is? If this is the case the government paid your education for that one? I thought you were against all that government sponsored education?

What facts? That Hussein NEVER was a threat to the United States, or that Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumfeld, Powell et al GOT AWAY with violating 18 USC 371?

No, the chef would be deductible as well. He would just need to hire him as a contractor and file a 1099 or get a separate tax ID number. For the business dinners he would be contracting servers and such, most likely, so I can see the expense hitting $200,000 a year. Getting all of this stuff onto the correct line on the forms is what tax accountants are for. Another expense.

Is it true that if he accepts dinner in one of his business associates home then the two are a push and neither gets a deduction?

You seem to forget inflation. My total bill was about 10k a year, and the only support I got on that was a free dorm bed during the summer because I was working in a school lab.

If you were a navy corpsman(as you have claimed) then you should have been elligible for the gi bill unless your discharge was under less than honorable conditions.

College costs have gone up 600% since your days in school.  That's not because of "inflation".

Ya know.... im going to argue willbe's case in this. The GI Bill was one of their benefits. A perk given for service. If that is how he paid for school, I dont see him going against his beliefs. Its a perk that every service man or woman earns.

I would hope no one would compare that to Pell Grants. I went to school on Pell, and still had to take out loans and scholarships to complete... many people have too.

The GI Bill is a benefit package.

The Pell Grant is there to even out the financial playing fields of education.

1. The 600% depends on whether youre talking about public or private schools and whether you are talking tuition only vs total costs.
2. Even if you were right, general inflation is almost exactly 600% since my first year in college.

I generally try to avoid answering ignored posters by proxy, but I do respond to lies now and then. I never claimed I was a Navy corpsman, thats so far off its bizarre. There enough snarky posts that actually repeat what I said about my service, so he's just lying as usual. Second, the GI Bill paid all of $175 a month, certainly a help, but not even close to private school costs. Third, who ever said I was honorably discharged (or wasnt!)

Isn't the university of california about 20k per year? That would seem quite a bit less than the 60k you are claiming.

He said the only support he got was a free dorm bed for working in the lab. If he got the gi bill, which he now says he did then the first statement was less than accurate.
I was not comparing pell grants to gi bill.

That has been ascribed to you over and over again on these boards and this is the first time I have seen you deny it.
Thank you for disabusing me of my ignorance in this matter.

When I went to school the university of california was $3000 a year and that gi bill money was a big part of how I made it happen.

certainly a help, but not even close to private school costs. Third, who ever said I was honorably discharged (or wasnt!)

Above you claim you got it and they do not pass out that check to those with less than an honorable discharge. So I guess we must accept your claim that you did get the gi bill and that you were honorably discharged.

Bill O'Reilly recently said it best.
quote:

“If you tax achievement, some of the achievers are going to pack it in...My corporations employ scores of people. They depend on me to do what I do so they can make a nice salary. If Barack Obama begins taxing me more than 50%, which is very possible, I don’t know how much longer I’m going to do this. I like my job but there comes a point when taxation becomes oppressive."

It makes perfect logical sense that if I m forced to profit less then I will not profit at all because if I have to pay thousands more in taxes, then I will have to deprive myself of millions. This is coming from the man who says "I have more power than anybody but the president" Which explains how he got his wife's boyfriend investigated since the gays are destroying marriage but thats another story for another time.

In all this chat about the $ cost of education, are people missing the point?

Is there an economic benefit attached to university entrance based on an ability to pay rather than merit? Is there an economic cost attached to talented students missing out on a university education due to its cost?

Can any country afford to let talented students miss out on university because of its costs?

You missed one.

Is there an eonomic cost from pushing unqualified students into college, filling the seats of qualified students and/or diluting the services available to those who are qualified? THAT is the situation in most states now.

Education like any other area in this class warfare follows one simple rule, if you cant pay for it too bad. If you cant pay for food, too bad, housing, too bad, clothes, too bad. If God wanted you to afford those things, he would have made you rich. Its as simple as that. Besides there is always charity like the churches where you can pray that God will help you. And maybe, just maybe a rich person will take pity on you to help you out.

Thats it exactly, god makes people rich. Hard work has nothing to do with it, god just hates the poor.  And its governments job to do that good which god refuses to...
