Two state, one state, split it up any number of ways, does it matter?  The problem I run into is that I believe Israel has a right to exist, and to be treated in a neighborly fashion, by their neighbors.  That needs to be an easy point of agreement, before I support any of it.

There is no evidence anywhere for King David however if you move a little forward in time there are plenty of historical references to later Hebrew kings in Jerusalem. IIRC the first one we have a written reference to is Omri.

Do not attempt to equate the lack of any historical records for someone who may have lived more than 3000 years ago to a lack of historical evidence that Jerusalem was the capitol of a Jewish Kingdom by no later than 900BC.

Perfect link, Ashjor.  A fundamentalist Christian website out to debunk the CBS story.  There will never be any agreement.

I think, from thousands of miles away, that Jerusalem is holy to all three of the major religious groups involved.  Would there be a way, do you think, for it to be an open city, an international city, maybe administered by a disinterested fourth party?  (Maybe the Chinese - they think we are all nuts equally.)

No, you obviously don't. That the UN created Israel is a convenient fiction, just like the notion that there was actually any such thing as a "Palestinian" before it became convenient politically to invent them.

One. The eldest of the lords proprietors shall be palatine;

Big surprise - I voted no as it will make negotiations dramatically harder. The Islamic capital of the region is Al-Ramleh, it was never Jerusalem except for the Christian Crusaders, the British Mandate and for the Jews. I remember the offer a few years back of one million dollars to give to anyone who finds a single mention of the Jerusalem in the Koran.

Well if Palestine becomes a state, that means Israel will have a legitimate reason to invade that state, just like every other state invades other states for whatever reason, which usually boils down to that old enemy; empire building or a state using bully boy tactics to assert their dominance in a region.

But if Palestine becomes a state then surely their defence against other states will be accomodated, as everyone has the right to defend themselves against aggressors

Oh shit more trouble to come!

Rich, while I agree with you about Israel's right to exist peacefully, I don't see why the other Arab states' views should affect the formation of a Palestinian state.

If they favored a Palestinian state, then this would be a useful carrot for them.  But it's not.

I wish the Government of Israel would get off their asses and annex Gaza and the West Bank, turning them into just another Administrative District. Restore civil order, and end all this bullshit.
