Once the front runner, now failing miserably.

He was supposed to be the "spark that ignited the base",...the anti-Mitt,...the Texas miracle...

'Fed Up With the Author of ‘Fed Up!’?"

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/25/opinion/sunday/dowd-fed-up-with-the-author-of-fed-up.html

IN a flash, Rick Perry has gone from Republican front-runner to cycling domestique, riding in front of the pack and taking all the wind — or in this case, hot air — to allow the team leader to pedal in the slipstream.
In the debate on Thursday night in Florida, as Perry grew more Pinteresque, lapsing into long, paralyzed pauses, Mitt Romney grew less statuesque, breaking his marble mold and showing a new sarcastic streak.

Romney unveiled his own version of Reagan’s “There you go again,” repeatedly blowing off Perry with a smile and a “Nice try."

Ouch!

Maureen Dowd. LMAO. She might be the only person close to the Hudson River as clueless as you about the GOP.

I wonder how many Dems have the hindsight to wish their candidate had been vetted this well back in 08?

Or even, wish that he had been vetted at all, period.

Well, I've got to admit, I see no reason to read anything by Dowd, but based on your post, I can't disagree, much.

Perry blew it in the last debate, and Romney looked and sounded very good.

Whether Perry can recover will say a lot about his inner fire, and about whether or not he's worth having as a President.

The Republicans can't afford someone who flubs like he did last time, and Romney's ability to hammer him - nicely - shows some of the fire that will be needed against Obama in the election.

Because Obama will go full tilt personal destruction, and the Republican candidate will have to be able to not only stand the heat, but serve it right back.

There wasnt a person who watched who didnt see Perry struggle, nor was there anyone who didnt know that it was easy to claim frontrunner status until his debate performances were seen.

However, this is total Maureen Dowd nonsense"

Romney was very effective and enhanced his image, calmly parrying Perry's jabs.

Just happy to see Perry fading. Less religious nutbaggery and more fiscal conservatism is a good thing.

It's the economy, stupid!

AKA the Texas Miracle, like all supply-side "trickle down" rightwing economic theory, collapsed once people insisted on looking at facts.

Once it came out that he was soft on enforcing our immigration laws it was all over for Perry! "BOO! BOOO!"
He fell faster than that" big as a bus" satellite!
People are getting real angry about that issue! And when we have idiots like Janet Napolitano telling us that the Mexican border is secure it reflects very badly on the current administration.
Whoever "owns" that issue will become not only the republican nominee but the next president.
Oh, and he's another dummy walking around with a "degree." I think they said on the news that he had a "1.9 GPA!"
And who in their right mind wants a holy roller in the white house? It's bad enough now that we have a muslim!
I could never figure that out, "prayer meetings", why do you "need" to be around other people to pray?
I think the Indians have it right, "thankyou mother earth and father sun."

Gee! Isn't that a surprise! Am I shocked or am I shocked?

It's not like any one would have guessed, is it? And the only people who have been saying this are those pinko leftist bleeding hearts greenie liberals who haven't even made their first squadrillion yet! I mean, what would they know? They don't have causing the Global Financial Crisis on their CV do they? None of them have even outsourced a single job yet! And they think they know about economics?

Yes Sirree! Y'all ain't got no kreee-denchels!

-fast reply-

I actually went to Texas last week and while there asked some Texans their impression of Perry. And I tried to get a good cross section. It doesn't seem they like him all that much. So if they have experience with him and aren't to crazy about him, why should the rest of us be impressed?

Personally I think he's just another politician centered on a me first and see how much I can grabbed for me and my friends before they run me out. We have one of those now, why repeat the mistake.

I'm still searching for the patriot that wants to see all of us, left, right and center prosper as Americans.

With the exception of Romney, it looks like the GOP candidates shine brightly like a supernova for a few weeks, then sputter out upon investigation and fall to the ground.  Bachmann, Trump, Perry, Gingrich. Cain's turn now.

Huntsman never really hit his stride, and Santorum never will.

Yes, hunky, I omitted Paul.  He's not really a Republican - he's what the GOP should be, but he's out of step with the process itself.

As I suspected, cons aren`t very happy with their lot right now.

That is true for many reasons including their gut feeling that President Obama will be hard to beat, whoever is their candidate.

So then, would the board`s cons tell us who ya`ll would like to run.

Who is the mega-star,Reagan-like republican that ya`ll think would ignite the base and appeal to indies too?

I want to bring something to the attention of this board that left me a bit unsettled after my trip to Texas.

I was just discussing where I recently was in Texas and I spent a good deal of time talking to folks on political issues (my intention was to vet Perry). I was rather surprised at the answers I got to a great many of my questions. First off I didn't think I'd find Texans that didn't like Perry the way the media portrays him. That couldn't be further from the truth.

I receieved one unsolicited respeonse that amazingly a great many people agreed with or at least nodded in conformation too. I wonder if her sentiment is echoed across the country. I doubt its an opinion will see on NBC, CBS or even Fox. But.

One "supposedly independent" lady stated that she voted for Obama to get this black thing over with. She said he seemed like a nice guy and her opinion was that he couldn't screw to much up in 4 years. She went on to add that she sure as hell got that wrong and won't repeat the same mistake again no matter who is running against him. I believe she called him cluless, after she qualified herself as not being the best judge of character out here. She added that our president must be more than a college educated career politician. I agreed with the last comment the most.

When we elected Obama I made the comment on this very forum that he will have to be one of the greatest presidents in US history or he will set back race relationships 100 years. While I don't believe that is the case, as of yet, he has created distrust and separation in American politics. Some call it class warfare others say he's trying to enslave the white guy.

Now I paraphrased the woman I am speaking about in the above and I do have some unsettling suspicisions on Mr. Obama's objectives, but I am not willing to label him a traitor or anything to that nature. Though I do believe he thinks he is smarter at organizing and running my life than I do. I hate big government on any level and do to this I will respect the man that is our president, but I will have to speak out against his actions as I discover those intended to rob liberty and those intended to spend money we DO NOT have.

The Texans I talked with weren't a bunch of gun toting rednecks either. If fact a few folks at this engagement I was at, there were blacks as well and commented much the same on the issues, even the black president one. I travel alot and I'm going to start asking more on this subject matter. I am bothered by two things mostly when it comes to this. First I can't believe the racist attitude that was in the, "let's elect him and get this black president thing over with, and that we owed the blacks a chance. And then the remark that they should have known better."

First off we don't owe the black man anything special, we owe them a great leader and a country that provides them with the opportunity to succeed at their chosen endeavor. But we owe that to all US citizens and those that come here legally for that chance of the dream.

Sorry about the hijack...
