ORIGINAL: Hillwilliam Come to the south, wilbur. You will hear words ending with in' from everyone. Black, white, Native Americans, native born hispanics, asians (listen to Henry Cho if you don't believe that last one). The dropped g as a part of dialect moved northward during the early and mid 20th century with southerners (mostly black) moved north to factory jobs in the rust belt and the Northeast. Sorry but it isnt a 'black thang'. Reminds me of when a friend from college took me to his old neighborhood in Liberty City to a restaurant that advertised "Soul Food". I'm probably the only white face in a 2 block radius and it was awesome. The cook came out and asked how I liked it and I looked her right in the eye and told her "Just like My grandmother cooks it". What some call "Soul Food" is just basic poor folks' Southern Cooking. It's the same with dialects. Come back when Obama adopts it speaking to a white audience in South Carolina. Ie you wont be back, because he'd be laughed or booed off the stage.
