eruditegirl1 -> Personal Growth (5/23/2006 7:58:00 AM)

I have read numerous threads on these boards....and a lot of them suggest personal growth and improvement....I have recently started  doing( 2 days..lol)  yoga, deep breathing and positive affirmations every morning....I was wondering if there were some other things that you might do that I could incorporate into my morning routine...

eruditegirl1,

you have much more time that I in the mornings! ;-)

I'd suggest spending a set amount of time reading in a non-fiction, self-help kind of book, or a non-fiction book based on some lifestyle aspect.

Best of luck with your new found goal. It's a good one.

Watch for patterns in your life, repeat it twice, it might be a pattern, three times, and it IS a pattern.  Realize that what happens in your life, the drama, the bad luck, the problems are about you and the decisions you make.  Understand why you make those decisions and you have the tools you need to make better decisions.

Meditation, blogging (journaling).  I have found meditation to be wonderful.  I was recently gifted with a "meditation bible" and it has become my favorite book.  You are already on a good path.  You may want to try a new hobby or interest as well.

You could try adding aerobic walking for 20 minutes a few mornings a week and see if that doesnt help your perspective. I love to space out while walking.

I do understand that I am responsible for my own actions...patterns...etc...my personal growth started a few years back...now that I weeded out a lot of the negative patterns and such from my life....I am looking to continue the positive growth...which is why I start every morning with a prayer of such...to that effect

how about random acts of kindness, bestowed upon complete strangers...even something small like a smile or a word of encouragement.[:)]

doing healthy & productive activities are an awesome way for an improvement of general well-being......
but might i add that it is also important to make a conscience effort to reduce (as much as possible) toxic elements of stress, anger, depression, sadness, & the unhealthies like smoking & junk food.......basically all the evil spirits & bad energies that would seek to do you harm......the yoga, meditation & exercise are a great start tho.......

good luck with it.......get a routine & stick it out...

TigerLily23 -> RE: Personal Growth (5/23/2006 12:01:05 PM)

I agree...along with the yoga and deep-breathing, meditation is a natural progression...it helps you focus (or re-focus) on you/your spirituality or your connection to the universe as a whole.
Good for you...not many people (in or out of the lifestyle) are courageous enough to "look inside themselves" and make the positive steps toward self-improvement or personal growth.

First.......eruditegirl, I think what you're doing is great. Keep up the good work.

As for suggestions, take 5-10 minutes at the start and end of the day to dwell on the things you're grateful for.
And as several others have stated, meditation is a wonder. Here's a link to a very simple breathing meditation. It's simple and powerful. http://www.how-to-meditate.org/breathing-meditations.htm

desertdancer -> RE: Personal Growth (5/23/2006 7:18:38 PM)

I do palities work-outs for 28 minutes a day and belly dance another 20... I also say a prayer of thanks to the god of my choice, I also think about people I am going to be involved with through out the day and think good thoughts about them, that sets me up for feeling happy to see them.  And a big one for me i'm drinking a lot more WATER!!! Whoo-hoo I gave up over half of my diet soda for water..it's still a struggle with me, i really wanna reach for the fizzy soda but I grab water

I saw meditatoin listed and i think i may look into that too!

I use stretching exercises..for my own personal growth...with lots of lotion. a quarter inch in two months and still growing larger. The pills that the infomercials push are for morons,,,the do not work.
Fastlane goes back to his stretching.....kinda feels good once you get use to it.[:D]  Kevin

Question....I am doing yoga...is it similar to Pilates....I thought they had the same results....or that in pilates you just held the position longer...giving the muscle more strength...cause that is what I need right now...I put on my little black dress the other night...and some how my ass was lower than the last time I wore it....I am determined now to defy that stupid gravity thing....

desertdancer -> RE: Personal Growth (5/24/2006 6:18:29 AM)

NO they are similuar in that they do strenghten and lenghten the muscles, however palities is kinda like Yoga in motion, with yoga you hold the positions, with pilaties you move into positions in repitations, each movement is designed to make your muscle stretch to it's fullest. If you want strenght training pilaties with a stretching cord is wonderfull.  I use the winsor pilaties with the cord, they have two different degrees of hardenss for the cord work out, I'd suggest getting both the CD's and do the shorter easier one then move to the longer harder one..

And Fastlane, OH MY!!!! * blushes*
