Sounds like Bloomberg doesn't know what is going on or why it is happening.

TheHeretic -> RE: Talk about being out of touch... (10/2/2011 6:09:40 AM)

From what I'm reading, Erie, the protesters are pretty clueless themselves, but having Susan Sarandon and Michael Moore show up, and the goonions offering their "support" (read co-opting whatever energy is there to a political agenda they approve of) doesn't much inspire me.

typical obamunists.

Do you sit up nights trying to dream up with these sorts of terms that fall short of being witty and are just plain lame? :D

TheHeretic -> RE: Talk about being out of touch... (10/2/2011 6:54:18 AM)

It's easier than thinking, D, and I have yet to see one post from this one that indicates any thinking at all is going on.

erieangel -> RE: Talk about being out of touch... (10/2/2011 8:40:12 AM)

I don't think the protesters are clueless, Heretic.  I think people are angry and have gathered to show their anger.  The fact that it is so unorganized, in that there are no demands the protesters can agree upon, simply means that it is truly grassroots.

I've got a suggestion for them as to demands, though--bring back the Glass/Steagall Act.  You know, that was law that prevented commercial banks from underwriting stocks and bonds.  It was repealed in 1999 after being gutted for decades, with banks first being permitted to have up to 5% then 25% then 50% of their total assets in the stock and bonds trading business.

I have to say, I agree with you. In fact, I agreed with you a year ago. Of course, I was writing about the Tea Party. But the same idea applies here. Fucking fed up...

And honestly, it is about damned time. I got no problems with these people. I had and have no problems with the Tea Party, regardless of the fact they probably exist on opposing ends of a lot of topics. What I like, and what I support is people actually putting actions behind the tripe they spew.

People are fucking fed up. They're full to the brim of politician promises that never go anywhere, dipshit activists who want the world to change for them, and a whole slew of people who refuse to mind their own fucking business.

Toss on the never ending tax and fee bullshit swirling out of every government body in an effort to separate more of your money from you while they bail out their friends. Wall Streeters who dance in glee when the fed prints more money for them to play with, the burgeoning realization that we've effectively gutted our economy in the name of global free trade - not only gutted it but hung it upside down and cut it's throat to bleed it. Mix in some obama lovers who look you straight in the face and tell you things are actually better...

and what you have is people with an urge to emerge from the lunacy.

He knows exactly whats going on...its the "protestors" who dont understand who they are actually hurting.

"It was repealed in 1999 after being gutted for decades, with banks first being permitted to have up to 5% then 25% then 50% of their total assets in the stock and bonds trading business. "

And signed by a Democrat POTUS.

From the article, Mayor Bloomberg:

quote:

"The protesters are protesting against people who make $40-50,000 a year and are struggling to make ends meet. That's the bottom line," Bloomberg said, presumably meaning service workers on Wall Street, adding that "we all" share blame for taking on too much risk, not just the financial industry.

"And people in this day and age need support for their employers. If the banks don't go out and make loans we will not come out of our economic problems, we will not have jobs so anything we can do that's responsible to help the banks do that is what we need."

He isnt out of touch, he is telling anyone who will listen who is.

Erie, I totally agree on Glass-Steagall.
And if you look at much of the legislation from Washington in the last 15 years it favors big business and not The People.
Look at all those rotten "outsourcing" deals disguised as "free-trade."
For the life of me I can't remember (one) demonstration where the people were holding up signs stating "We Demand Free Trade!"
Anytime we hear the phrase, "Big business and government partnering together." you *know* it's not good for the country!
Look at "Nafta" it's a disaster yet our government does nothing to get us out of it!
Also, we need to outlaw "lobbyists." They shouldn't have "special access" to the congress! They can sit down at their kitchen table just like I do and write a letter to their senators and congressmen.
I can't remember the last time (I) played golf with or went on a "junket" to Hawaii with my congressman or one of my senators!

I've been surfing through message boards for organizing the solidarity demonstrations, Erie. I'm sticking with clueless, and ripe for exploitation. Similar, some I'm sure will say, to the development of the Tea Party, but liberals are far easier to herd than conservatives.

tazzygirl -> RE: Talk about being out of touch... (10/2/2011 10:52:31 AM)

That is a concern within the group, Rich. That this will turn into a left vs right movement... something the organizers are trying to avoid.

TheHeretic -> RE: Talk about being out of touch... (10/2/2011 11:10:15 AM)

I'm not so sure they have any interest in avoiding it becoming a left/right thing, Tazzy. I've just been watching a video from the organizers that includes a call to exactly that.

tazzygirl -> RE: Talk about being out of touch... (10/2/2011 11:19:15 AM)

I watched the video, thank you for the link, Rich. But what about that indicates they are strictly a leftist organization?

Sanity -> RE: Talk about being out of touch... (10/2/2011 11:23:35 AM)

How many of these out of touch leftists are willing to admit to themselves that Obama is tied in directly with the "hated and despised" Wall Street "rich"

Roseanne Barr: Behead Bankers, Rich Who Won't Give Up Wealth

[image]http://images.rcp.realclearpolitics.com/105302_5_.jpg[/image]

Actress, comedienne and now author Roseanne Barr shares her solution for dealing with the rich and how the banks could repay the money the U.S. government bailed them out with in 2008.

"Part of my platform is, of course, the guilty must be punished and that we no longer let our children see their guilty leaders getting away with murder. Because it teaches children, you know, that they don't have to have any morals as long as they have guns and are bullies and I don't think that's a good message," Barr told Russia Today (RT).

"I do say that I am in favor of the return of the guillotine and that is for the worst of the worst of the guilty.

Avoid it? LMAO. Anti-capitalism is by definition leftist.

willbeurdaddy -> RE: Talk about being out of touch... (10/2/2011 11:30:18 AM)

LAMO, either Roseanne, RCP or both arent real clear on the (major) banks, which have all repaid their TARP loans.

Except that nobody is protesting against the poor sap who makes $40,000-$50,000 a year.  It is those in charge, those making millions a year and who effectively control our government that is the cause of the protest.  Anybody who doesn't get that doesn't know what the hell is going on.
