It's a fact. Even Perry admits the name was in used in the 1980's when he started hunting there. When the rock with the name got painted over is unclear but seems to have been relatively recently based on the various accounts.

“When my Dad joined the lease in 1983, he took the first opportunity he had to paint over the offensive word on the rock during the 4th of July holiday,” Perry said in his initial response. “It is my understanding that the rock was eventually turned over to further obscure what was originally written on it.”

Perry said that he was not with his father when he painted over the name but that he “agreed with” the decision.

In response to follow-up questions, Perry gave a more detailed account.

“My mother and father went to the lease and painted the rock in either 1983 or 1984,” Perry wrote. “This occurred after I paid a visit to the property with a friend and saw the rock with the offensive word. After my visit I called my folks and mentioned it to them, and they painted it over during their next visit.”

I don't see any bad political implication, unless someone is just attempting to besmirch him in any way they can.  Sounds like appropriate action was taken.

And, I'm not particularly a Perry fan, either.

Mountain.  Molehill.

Most likely simply opposition research.

I have no doubt that after the "racist" meme is fully explored, they'll start working on "how dumb" he is, and then either a criminal or corrupt.

Those are the three favorite attack memes of the left: racist, stupid, corrupt or criminal.

I expect to see those accusations and not-so-veiled stories and comments about any Republican that challenges the liberal left, and fully explored by their fellow-travels in the media.

Yep, lets not have any stories pointing out ineptitude, corruption and stupidity.......... Unless its about Obama.


BTW, did anyone see he is okay with sending troops to Mexico to "kill the cartels" ? (Perry not Firm)

I hadn't seen that, but I'd have to disagree. The only way we should send troops into Mexico is to annex the whole fucking country.

Well hell, if we did that, we'd have most of Central America and South America up in arms, running to the UN, decrying US imperialism while their populations kept sneaking across what was the former Mexican border.

Status: offline 		Perry told the paper that his father painted over the name on the rock in 1983 or 1984, shortly after his family first leased the property. "Ever since, any time I ever saw the rock it was painted over," Perry said.

Others interviewed by the Post recalled seeing the name in the 1980s and 1990s. A former ranch worker told the newspaper he believed he saw it as recently as 2008.

Status: offline 		I dunno, Tazzy. Maybe the rock has been painted over, and the modern paint has weathered away, while the old offensive camp name was put on with lead-based paint that lasts?

Most everything here is "supposedly", except that at some point in time, it existed.

I imagine it might still if you turn the rock back over.

Here's the thing, if I 'believed' I saw it in 2008, then I could state definitively that I saw it after say... 2005, 2006, I mean hell pick a year. I could swear on an affidavit to that fact. I could put my name on record and say, by golly, I did. Which personally, I would if that's what it took.

What we have is a lot of innuendo and some shoddy reporting.

Status: offline 		The word exists in our history, and the artifacts still linger here and there, Tazzy. We have 36 unknown individuals in a cemetery here in CA, buried under markers that say the bodies were relocated from "n-word" Hill Cemetery by the US Government in the 1950's.

I'm sure no effort the family might have made to address the problem will be good enough for those who want to make an issue of it.

No, not a flaw.  I just hadn't taken the time - at the time - to do any additional research.  I wasn't in a fighting match with tazzy.  We were having a discussion.  Neither of us were counting coup.

It's called civilized discussion.  Maybe the P&R Forums will become re-acquainted with it, now that we have been put on notice.

Actually, in this context "corrupt" simply means someone who hasn't been caught, or convicted.  You are a criminal after conviction. 

I suspected that some lib would attempt to make a distinction if I just mentioned one or the other, so I was attempting to be complete.  My mistake.
