I've thoroughly enjoyed the handful of munches I've been able to attend here: the first one ended up in a small but intense naked orgy at one of the ladies houses. Sadly that has happened again, the ladies in question have since entered long term relationships, but I've had good conversations with other kinky couples, and people I hadn't met before and didn't know were kinky, and had a very pleasant time with my clothes on.

Unfortunately, due to my childcare situation, I haven't been able to attend more than a couple, if I could more often, I would.

So, your mileage may vary, it just depends on who your local kinksters are and which one attend that particular munch - if they're a bunch of hosers, that's what it is munches are generally, by convention, considered open invitation, there is no reason you can't have invitation only parties and invite people you met at a munch that you like.

I think it's worth going, it will at least allow you to meet a few of your fellow kinksters without any obligations, in a public place - where you go from there is up to you.

if you want to spend an evening nattering on politely about random trivial shit with a bunch of fucking strangers go for it, myself if i'm going to bother leaving home i'm going somewhere the music is loud enough you have to yell, where people drink to excess, argue, fight, and throw up. the sort of place where the drunken college babes flash their titties and the goth chick gets finger fucked in the corner booth, where there's a junkie passed out in the fucking john. you know, someplace fucking interesting, someplace fun. otherwise i'm just going to stay the fuck home.

Actually, what Hannah describes sounds like my running group, the Portland Hash House Harriers. Their motto is that they are a drinking group with a running problem. Flashed tits, dicks hanging out, bawdy songs, hook ups, simulated fucking, all kinds of great stuff. I do that on Wednesday night, and I don't need to do the same thing two nights in a row. The munch was actually a nice change from that.
I don't think fucking and getting your kink on in public is what this munch group is all about. But thanks, as always, for your opinion.

Exactly. There was exactly one person in the group I would have been interested in seeing naked (well, 2, but the other one I already have). Doesn't mean we can't enjoy some conversation and drink some wine, though.

How charming. Yeah, I can't exactly say that's My vision of a good time. Don't like that some folks have an interest in going out and just having dinner conversation so they can get to know other people? That's your choice.

The problem with this subject is that somewhere along the line, CM took a turn away from munches, events, etc being positive experiences for people. People who have been out to their local community and didn't like it always have bad things to say about it and people who haven't been rely on the propaganda that they've created in their own head. What good does the latter do? All that does is make people think that there's no point in going because whatever they've conjured in their head is what they are going to find because it's kinky people.

How DO folks find each other nowadays? Honest question from the dinosaur. If you don't leave the house and go to a perv event of any kind, do you depend on ads and hit and miss? If that's the case, the whining level is kind of justified, especially from the female dominants. Something like one in ten men ACTUALLY shows up to a coffee meet. Seriously. Maybe the number is smaller, I really haven't been looking in a long time.

I go to my local munch occasionally. I've made some great friends there - friends I hang out with, or go drinking with, or go to events with.

It takes a while to get to know people, but once you do I found a whole sub-group of 'private parties' that I was being invited to. I went to several and had a blast. Now another member of the munch is setting up a 'private club' in a secluded building not too far away, and I have an open invite to attend, which is cool.

But sadly, so many people see munches as an open declaration of their kinkiness to the whole world, which is SO not the case! I've met several really nice guys through cm who would have benefited a great deal from just going out and meeting other kinksters and perhaps finding a woman better suited to them.

I've never seen a reason to go to munches to meet people...online always seemed to work perfectly fine for that. Then again I'm not really into meeting bunches of strangers. I like meeting people one on one or a very very small select choice of people. I'm not the social creature I used to be when I was in my 20's. Now that I'm almost 40 I just find most people to simply be annoying and I'd rather stay home by myself, with Master or spending time with my daughter or friends I've known for 10 years or more.

Imo men are men...malesub, male dom, switch, whatever. I find it strange that you have a lot who don't show up. Even when I've done the "vanilla" dating sites I never had problems with men not showing up.

I can't imagine doing that. Seems kind of rude, if you have agreed to meet them. But then, I usually screened pretty well during the email/phone call stage, so that I didn't waste my time meeting men I knew I would have no interest in. I also usually suggested a first meet at a gym, rather than just meeting for coffee. That tended to further screen out people I wouldn't have an interest in.

Vanilla men, never a problem. And it isnt just me, and it isnt just a "michigan" thing. Male subs flake out more often than not. I could speculate why, but I will be restrained. It's one of the reasons so many of us have the "meet me at a munch" rule.

Since I stopped participating in the public scene, that complicates things somewhat.

I suspect you'd rather like the Camden munch. You've described it almost perfectly - everything on your list is there. The only things you've missed out are the girls tied to the stairs, and the doorwoman asking "are you here for the comedy, or the fetish night?" with this ferocious grin. (I may have developed a little crush there. She's hot.)

I can't say with honesty that it's really my idea of a good time, though. I like there to be a moderate level of alcohol, low enough noise to talk, and enough squishy sofa things that I can sprawl out and get my legs rubbed.
