Look, I understand about the budget cuts, but you KNOW that they have picked non-prosecution of domestic battery because it is hot button (not quite the word I want, but it will do) issues.

How about if the city bans the criminalization of minor in possession or possession of marijuana instead. Those are fairly harmless.

So so stupid. They'll prosecute drugs and whores but not assault and battery.

Calling it "domestic violence" is annoying. It's assault, battery, or both. It's not some sort of lesser crime if the people are family.

Im not so sure how legal this is. And the City is opening them selves up to major law suits. Thurman case should tell them that.

This is idiotic as extreme domestic violence is usually at the end of a pattern of escalation, that prosecution and judgements could stem. So to pass on these DV issues, is pretty much a guarantee of worse ones to come. Is it possibly that the victim will not press the charges, and these are ones that the "state" would normally seek indictments or file charges for?

So the boys are playing a game of who has to do it when no one wants to. This doesn't really shock me and it doesn't really have anything to do with the state. This is how all politics are evolving now. Sadly I think tazzy got this one right. They will see their error after someone sues them for the money they didn't want to spend to begin with.

You would think most people would consider this an outrage, but you might be surprised.
Last year, a guy named David Hedrick ran for congress from my district. He ran on a tea party, family values platform, after becoming a minor tea party celebrity by disrupting a town hall meeting held by our then congressman.
This year, he was prosecuted for domestic violence against his wife. The facts were initially in dispute, although she later recanted her story. I was shocked at all the people who were outraged that the police and prosecutor would interfere in what was "purely a private matter.". So, I learned there were a surprising number of people who just don't think it is a big deal for a husband to slap his wife around, or vice versa. I guess that is the new family values for you.

One good lawsuit ...one not so private tragedy ...and this will be properly addressed,a real shame that the tragedy will come first and might have been prevented.

Seems the District DA doesnt want to prosecute those crimes in the city. The city wants to decriminalize to force the district DA, forcing him to have to prosecute.

And the one;s caught in the middle are the victims.

Nothing in that state surprises me.

Is there a vote on the table on expenses? Could they be hoping the public will raise cane and they can get some tax something or other passed? Someone deciding on this want to beat his wife? Or enforcing that biblical right to not spare the rod unless they wish to ruin a spouse or child.

I already know they allow the rod to be used on very young children and allow young children to be forced to use the rod on other children. The statute I read was... unto death or deadly force... as long as you don't kill them or come close to it... all good.

Women and children there need to run to Missouri as refuges. This amounts to all out warfare on them. I have a safe house here, if anyone one needs protection.

But... since they won't send me to jail... I might just go kick the shit out of daddy and let him know... granny doesn't like what he's doing. This could work for me.

The District wants the city to take all the misdemeanors... and the city is saying... no way.

Yes. The county says that they are not prosecuting ANY misdemeanors. The city is choosing domestic battery as something to decriminalizes instead of something else. Because they KNOW that it is going to fuzz people up. They are using women as political counters AGAIN!

Good for you Topeka, Kansas is making the conservative dream come true. This the way to live up to the most important conservative goal of promoting individual freedom by reducing the size and scope of government and its intrusion into the lives of citizens. It was the liberals that drove this Nanny State government interfering law in the first place. They already succeeded in regulating which light blubs and amount of water the appliances such as dishwashers and toilets can use in our own home.

Kansas you found a way to reduce the intrusion of the Nanny State in your lives. The next step is to reduce taxes by taking into account how much of tax payer money was wasted by this government intrusion or better yet you can use that money to have government ban abortions, ban atheist, ban Muslims, ban gay marriage, imposing Christian only prayer in schools, and etc.
