Amazingly inept you mean. We have a social welfare which does not serve its users a health system which does not serve its users and an educational system that quite frankly has failed everyone who has the dubious pleasure of enduring it. We have actually very little good on the administrative side in Ireland, if you are at the top , your laughing, you will get away with any and all malfeasance and corruption with the added bonus that you can load your incompetence on the taxpayer if you are anywhere else on the social ladder , you are accountable for everything particularly if you are on the lowest rung of the ladder. In a word the system like much in this banana republic sucks

There was this show called "Shelley", my dad and I used to love, about a guy living on the dole. Dad and I were amazed, and he would tease me that that was my ideal life, hanging about and waiting for free money to arrive! Amazing that such things exist there, it's just not possible in this country with the military to fund.

I remember Shelly...in the first couple of series it was around the same time as the Falklands war, thatcherism, and HIGH unemployment.
I know back then, the dole was less than 30 quid a week...in fact, a single mom with one child "support" was 28.65 a week plus 7.25 for child benefit.

And one more thing , im not a drain on the State at all, the State are a MAJOR drain on me and my finances, here's the real laugh , my former employers, the Taxman and TaxWoman as it is now in this age of supposed equality and political correctness saw fit to take my earnings away from me a couple of years ago and a future pension, what if i decided i wasnt going to pay them any more taxes , no you see i cant do that because everybody has to pay taxes even when those taxes are wasted on junkets and other hare brained schemes that have no benefit to anyone in society other than those that line their pockets by implementing them

Way to make my skin crawl- I think I threw up in my mouth a little.

If Kevin worked half as hard at finding and keeping a job as he does on justifying why he doesn't have one, and on his views of the government, he'd be a rich man. It's hilarious though the way he keeps trying to find a houseboy position when his main qualifications are sitting at home typing on the computer about all of the reasons why he doesn't want to work. [8|] Great recommendation for himself there. I guess no one is supposed to remember all the crap he posts along with his whines for a position.

The US is supposed to be a much lower tax economy than Ireland so bowsies like the above might become a reality in the US too if others are willing to pay... [:D]

Ill tell you what is dishonourable shall i, the thing about this wonderful Emerald Isle of our s Greedy Top, you must understand, is that we have money for nothing at all, do we have money for improving our mental health and health services, nope, do we money for increasing resources in education, nope, do we have extra money to help out social welfare recipients very tough times, nope but and here's the catch we do have money for other things, we have $130,000 , yes you have got that right $130,000 for a parasite who ruined our national training organisation, the bedrock of our employment system, well because typically Irish we reward incompetent people at the top, in this typically fair NOT capitalist system and at one and the same time we are thinking about cutting $1 billion off social welfare, so you see it really is fair, the people who most need the money are denied it and the impostors who have ruined it for everyone get it in spades, that is DISHONOURABLE

A High Court action by the former corporate affairs director of FÁS, Greg Craig, challenging his dismissal from the state training agency has been settled.
The terms of the settlement were read to the court this morning.
Mr Craig had taken legal action to prevent his dismissal by FÁS in September following an internal audit. His lawyers claimed he had been made a scapegoat by the agency and was being continually offered up to the media.
Mr Craig claimed he had been vindicated in a previous report by accountancy firm, Mazars, which examined how allegations of lavish overspending were handled by the agency.
Under the terms of the settlement, Mr Craig accepts his employment ended on 5 September and he is to receive a payment of €125,000.
He acknowledges that he has no right to take up employment with the Minister for Social Protection or with SOLAS.
The payment includes a termination payment of €75,000 subject to tax, a payment of €35,000 in respect of annual leave, and €15,000 for general damages. FÁS will also pay a sum of €50,000 plus VAT as a contribution to Mr Craig's legal costs.
The payments are to be made without admission of liability on the part of FÁS.
As part of the settlement, FÁS apologises to Mr Craig in relation to the findings made by Mazars.
Mr Craig has agreed to waive confidentiality and give consent to Mazars releasing information they have in their possession relating to him, to satisfy any queries the Public Accounts Committee may have relating to alleged inaccurate information given to it by FÁS in late 2008.

dear kev - of course there are exceptions of the rule as always ... but maybe the emphasis is on "no cost" ...
I happily remember my days on my favourite isle when even the most plain looking continental was shining like a new penny (in the old IL days) compared to the usual local assortment
