lizi -> Share the wisdom (10/10/2011 7:17:09 PM)

I turn 50 tomorrow. I don't know how exactly how I got to be this old, I have a love/hate thing going on with the milestone birthday here. I'm sad to see my outward self declining although I'm aging well, still, many of us would love to look younger. I also hate feeling that time is running out, shoot there are still things I want to do!

I love that I've learned so much - the whole getting wiser thing is infinitely awesome. It's the best part of being (almost) 50. With that in mind, what can you teach me? I'd like to make a request on this birthday eve for whatever it is that you'd like to share, I'd love to hear from you  [:)]

tazzygirl -> RE: Share the wisdom (10/10/2011 7:17:47 PM)

Happy Birthday!

Sorry, I should have added my own.

Follow your heart.... there is enough time later in life for memories...minimize the regrets.

lizi -> RE: Share the wisdom (10/10/2011 7:20:21 PM)

I'll go first.
Don't let anything hold you back from doing something. Jump in and do it. I can't tell you all how many times I've taken a deep breath and then forged ahead with whatever it is and been rewarded in the end. Even if it seems like you've made a mistake, there are things that you'll gain from the experience. I have been places, done things, met people...all from taking a chance and not sitting on my butt letting my life pass by. Screw up your courage and go for it! It seems like such a generic thing to say but it's been a very rewarding axiom to live by for me.

wisdom is something only time
can give!  it is a treasure to have and
know!  it shows you did not go and
do something silly like jail, crimes,
driving drunk, so many other things
but the best is telling others and sharing'
what you know!  i give mine away and
tell many of the much younger people
be safe not sorry,. keep you mind and
nose cleanm., share life experinces with
with others and watch them grow!!!!!

Happy Birthday!  One thing I've learned is to be open to the possibility of goodness.  It comes in abundance!

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: Share the wisdom (10/10/2011 7:52:52 PM)

The things I'd like to share with you are:

1) Yes, the time is shorter now, but there's a pretty fair chance that your life is only half over. Use your time to fulfill dreams, to help others, to continue to learn & experience as much as you can.

2) Treat every single day as though it might be your last & you don't want to die with regrets. Don't be at the end saying, "Gee, I sure wish I hadda...."

3) Life is a series of adventures!!!!!

4) Live, laugh, love & DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5) Lastly, it sounds trite, but seriously, count your blessings!! Remember how fortunate you are & what a great life you're living.

Have a great birthday. My 50th was difficult because I didn't know these things that I'm passing along to you. Once I figured them out, I've been overjoyed to celebrate every birthday since!

Thank you all for the wisdom and the bday wishes. You know, wisdom sometimes sounds trite because things have been said before, but it doesn't take away from the content. I think I might need to write this stuff down and haul it out once a week or so and glance at it. I don't want to walk by any opportunities.
I think I'll look at this birthday as a beginning instead of an ending.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Share the wisdom (10/10/2011 9:10:07 PM)

Happy Birthday and cheers for reaching the half-way mark.

Now...get a gigolo and make him get dirty with you!

Well for one thing, you will now start running into smart-asses half your age who think that this notion of learning from experience is an evil plot designed to impugn and marginalize the infinite wisdom of youth.

Happy Birthday! [:D]

First of all, have a very happy birthday and lots of love on it.

As Miss Linn said; Live life to the max! At the end of every day rethink and take something small to treasure and remember (if terrible at rememberance, write it down, as I do)

You're only halfway
Huggss and kisses

SoulAlloy -> RE: Share the wisdom (10/11/2011 12:09:04 PM)

Happy Birthday! I may not be 50 yet but I can pass on one bit of wisdom I learned at school:

"If you start to panic, just remember 'orange penguins'.

Coz that's just as useful as panicking"

Got me through many an exam that one :D

JstAnotherSub -> RE: Share the wisdom (10/11/2011 2:25:58 PM)

Happy Birthday lizi.  I have no wisdom to offer you, I attended the "gotta learn everything the hard way cause older folks are morons" school my self.

50 is right around the new year for me, and I agree with you 100% on the love hate thing going on.  The numbers do not compute at all.  I understand my mom now, more than I ever did when she was alive, and I wish I could let her know that she really aint as batshit crazy as I thought she was.

All I know is, if I could go back to 25 and have that body again, but I had to go through all that learning again, I would stay where I am.  It is wonderful to be here, and it sho nuff beats pushin up daisies!

Have a great birthday.  Please accept my cyber gifts of Geritol, Depends, Ben-Gay, ortho hose and a cane.

Now, throw all that shit in the trash and go party like a rockstar!!!!

DarkSteven -> RE: Share the wisdom (10/11/2011 5:50:14 PM)

With age comes wisdom.

Or age comes alone.  You never know.

Termyn8or -> RE: Share the wisdom (10/11/2011 8:05:32 PM)

FR

Free at last. Old enough to know better, too young to care and hopefully got the brains to have a little fun without getting into trounle. And if you haven't been in trouble, now is the time.

People on the street treat you different, your boss teats you different, even the cops treat you different. You know how to get away with all the shit that you used to get caught for, you know how to work the system alot better, and you know when to stop.

You figured out that the people who thought you were an asshole had a good reason, and you ain't like that anymore. You have learned hopefully that the highway is not a dragstrip until about four in the morning. You check the oil and the mail. You don't ignore legal notices - much.

The tunes don't have to be cranked all the time and the TV brightness does not have to be all the way up. A case of beer is enough. When people piss you off it's not that you are too lazy to beat their ass (though you are) but you have a few other plans that work better.

You are fine until you forget how to turn off the left turn signal, at which time we will feed you to the dogs.

Happy B day

Words of Wisdom =====> People will do the complete opposite of what you ask/tell them to do.

and this alone will make you an oracle of knowledge.

"half your age who think that this notion of learning from experience is an evil plot designed to impugn and marginalize the infinite wisdom of youth."

It is. The problem is they keep figuring it out !

lizi -> RE: Share the wisdom (10/11/2011 9:04:11 PM)

Omg, you all are too funny, but wise too. It's just not fitting me right yet, the age. It chafes a bit, I think I'll get used to it though. I was trying to find a way to ease myself into it by asking for things to learn, which is my favorite part of getting older anyway. Thanks for helping me along  [:)]
