It's fucking Uganda, Popeye. Idi Amin's old stomping grounds. We are hardly meddling in the affairs of our old friends. It's a place that mostly knows poverty and brutality like we cannot imagine.

Do we have any national interest at all here, besides maybe trying to maintain some of the goodwill Bush built in Africa, with his AIDS funding? Nope. I know that is a dealbreaker for you, but I'm ok with some global charity work.

We aren't jumping into somebody else's civil war, or seeking to overthrow a government. If we can remove Kony from the battlefield (don't you love the euphemisms from our Nobel Peace Prize winner?), there is some chance at making that little corner of the globe a better place. If we are deploying to help send him off to hell, and get back out again, I'm good. If the mission is going to morph into anything other than that, I'll reserve the right to change my mind. Creating an opportunity for them to unfuck themselves a bit is one thing, trying to do it for them is something else entirely.

Bravo Rich, I had a "similar" POV all lined up and didnt send it.
apart from the peace prize comment, I agree with you[:)]

So you don't love the euphemisms, Lucy? The flavor of the irony is perhaps a touch too bitter?

Lucylastic -> RE: Obama sending 100 troops to Uganda as "advisors." (10/15/2011 1:34:09 PM)

jsut the one dear just the one
to take out this guy, may lead to some much needed peace, especially for the women and children who are being raped.
it is doubtful of course given the history of the arena, but even a brief respite will allow the kids to get thru some of their lives with some hope
MAYBE

"We're not going to babysit a civil war."
Barak Obama on NBC's Today Show Jan 11 th 2007.

This guy is a *FUCKING LIAR!*

Lucylastic -> RE: Obama sending 100 troops to Uganda as "advisors." (10/15/2011 1:42:21 PM)

African National Congress (Their version of NATO)
i'm not quite sure what they teach you out there in the fucking oc, but the african national congress <anc> isn't theior version of nato, its a revolutionary anti aparthied group that became a political party in south africa. maybe your thinking of the au, but that's nothing fucking like nato either. personally i think your just pulling shit out of your fucking ass.

I meant to say the African Union.

100 troops? Why not just go in and take them out with a Marine Brigade? It doesnt sound like Vietnam, it sounds like Somalia.

Im tired of weak-kneed politicians doing things half assed and getting our people killed.
It'll be fine, the LRA specializes in arming 12 year old kids, they're a real piece of work.

ArizonaBossMan -> RE: Obama sending 100 troops to Uganda as "advisors." (10/16/2011 8:54:45 AM)

That's your peace prize winner! Good grief, it just keeps getting more hilarious. Sadly, we all pay the price for his "change." What WERE you people thinking when you voted for this dunderhead? Having the brain damaged biden on the ticket would be bad enough, but O'dingdongs track record, or lack of a track record, should have been enough to disqualify him from even being dog catcher in your town. OK, now you can go back to the "occupy" protest of your choice.

xssve -> RE: Obama sending 100 troops to Uganda as "advisors." (10/16/2011 8:59:15 AM)

Yep, we should be devoting all of the precious natural resources we have left to rousting Mexican day laborers.

Isn't this how Vietnam started?
And why do we even have any relations or communications with Uganda?
I wonder how much "foreign aid" they're stealing?
I wish the election were next month instead of next year. Oblunder is insane.

Instead he should have said that uganda has WMDs. That worked out well for Iraq

808, I don't like either one of them.
And I think that the powers of the president be very restricted.

FirstQuaker -> RE: Obama sending 100 troops to Uganda as "advisors." (10/17/2011 7:28:44 AM)

The EU and the Anglosphere have been looking at and to robbing Africa for food and minerals for many years.

Taking down Libya, a major player in the AU, was the first part of the scheme.Unfortunately, like their other thievery, this likely will not go anywhere near the way it is planned.

There are already open revolts over the theft of food land, and since the continent is awash in military weapons, with China cheerfully selling the ammunition, the Europeans can expect a long and protracted insurgency wherever they go.

And the Chinese are smart enough to just do business with the place, as opposed to attempting to rob it.

Also Islam is spreading, say what you will of the religion, it is a good faith for those guerrillas fighting imperialistic invaders.

Why are we in Uganda?

The usual suspects. http://minerals.usgs.gov/minerals/pubs/country/2009/myb3-2009-ug.pdf

Won't the tea party want your card back if you think there's restrictions on the Kenyan's powers?

Maybe it's the Kenyan's fault his team lost as well...

The only thing that keeps getting more hilarious are your posts Wyatt Earp.

Moonhead -> RE: Obama sending 100 troops to Uganda as "advisors." (10/17/2011 12:24:46 PM)

Don't diss Wyatt Earp like that.
I've read a couple of his dime novels, and his prose style suggests that English was his first language and he wasn't dropped on his head as a baby.
(Also, he was pro gun control, so obviously a liberal commie by gatorboy's lights...)

Yeah, how dare the President enforce a law passed by Congress. Even worse that he should try and stop these guys from raping brown women and enslaving brown children.

I'm a Democrat and while I agree with your posts on most issues, I'm siding with popeye and termyn8or on this. I think it sucks that women and children are suffering in other countries, but American women and children are suffering because of the economy. How can the US government even think about helping other countries when our own people aren't being taken care of? The government is sending money to other countries when we don't even have a public option for health care. Most people agree that you have to love yourself before loving anyone else. I think the same should apply in this case. We can't afford to give away foreign aid right now.

Lucylastic -> RE: Obama sending 100 troops to Uganda as "advisors." (10/17/2011 3:47:10 PM)

This may be one major reason the US is looking into it, it looks like the UK is as well
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8656634.stm
From last year, no gruesome pictures, but if you look for LRA and mutilations in google images, it seems they like slicing off lips ears and noses just for kick, then the deaths, by rape and burnings.
The US has obligations as it been in UGanda for donkeys years. Not easy to get out of
Considering less than 1% of the budget is spent on ALL foreign aid..wether its needed or not you have allies and "friends" for a reason.
