Damn, you know, Fire, you and Heather could almost be the same person posting, your thoughts, language and writing style are so darn similar.

Oh, now I'm Fire? that's a new twist. You better inform Peon, ProjectNeedles, Lazar, and the deltawhatevers and charlieswhatits, so they all get the same story straight.

No it isn't, at least not in Ontario, as far as I know it hasn't been for years.

oops...Let me correct that .. *Is this no longer common in most U.S. Schools? *

Sorry to sound like an old bitch here but if it doesn't affect my kids schooling I don't really care what other countries do. After all they aren't telling the girls to wear a burka to school either.

This particular thread started with an incident that involved female cheerleaders, that's why it was female oriented.

This thread yes but the topic of proper dress is not just a female issue. You can not say the girls can do something the boys can't anymore than you can say the boys can do something the girls can't.

Now see, I disagree. (since you are stuck on the 'teach a lesson' issue )

THE CHEERLEADERS lost a valuable chance to show their maturity by standing up for their position against the school. In my opinion, if they were truly wanting to make a statement against breast cancer with THIS SLOGAN THAT THEY CHOSE, then they should have challenged the school administration in a responsible and mature fashion.

The school had nothing to teach or prove. Their codes are their codes, and they expect their codes to be upheld. UNLESS, someone comes along and challenges those codes.

Unfortunately, none of you guys caught that
The term "you guys" would normally be construed to be referring to the people I was addressing in the remark, which, in this case, was clearly the people who were disagreeing with me. So there was no contention that nobody agreed with me, since I was clearly only addressing the people who didn't agree with me.

I hate to come back to this thread about something I forgot to ask about when I first posted but feel I really do have to ask. At my sons school the boys are required to wear "dress clothes" when they go to other schools for games, lectures, music, etc. Is this no longer common in schools ?

My daughters school has a pretty strict dress code, not only for while in their own school, but when going on outings. It used to be alot stricter, but about 6 years ago, some students stood up against the administration and presented their case so well, the dress code was changed.

No, it's really not a new twist at all.

Now THIS I agree with so IMO they BOTH goofed.

I've never cast aspersions on your identity, Heather. I have with Hannah, though. Maybe you're forgetting which name you were writing under when that happened, hmmm? ;-)

I understand that, but you said you were confused at why the thread seemed geared toward female dress codes instead of males....I was just offering a suggestion as to why. That's all, no offense intended

We have had a few kids challenge the dress code here as well. In fact I helped one a few years back with addressing the school board. Somethings did change, others did not. If the kids want blue hair or "goth" clothing I'm all for it. But when they decide they represent the entire school they should dress accordingly.

They did. They chose to sell the shirts while wearing their normal uniforms, and have a couple of parents wear the shirts to show them off. Non-confrontational, makes the point without directly challenging the administrations authority, and still sells the shirts to raise money. What exactly was irresponsible or immature about that?

I was correcting what I asked. Sorry to have made that not clear in the correction. You still have a right to what you said I was just wondering more about the schools that affect me.

ETA-
*oh* and I know who fire is...she is a poster that changed her name a little while ago. It was in the intros or something. Can I have a cookie for paying attention(because normally I don't)

LOL, I'll bet! My brain gets tired just trying to keep up with one personality, as I said on another thread.
