It is not beyond question that the school made a mistake. Otherwise we wouldn't be here. Since the decision was made in America, and follows American law, perhaps the decision was right for our country and our culture but not necessarily yours.

AneNoz -> RE: Breast Cancer T-Shirts for Cheerleaders (10/18/2011 8:45:03 PM)

The law is not at issue, nor as well is the culture of my country. It is the falseness of the public puritanical morality of America that is at issue as it is this upon which the decision was made.

It's not? Why isn't it? It's basically the final say in any matter. Even this one.

IHeartToxicWaste -> RE: Breast Cancer T-Shirts for Cheerleaders (10/18/2011 8:48:47 PM)

i like the fact that the school is totally cool with the existence of cheerleaders, whose whole raison d'etre is to be sexualized as hot potential fuck partners by their peers and as hot nymphets by the sad middle aged dudes in the stands but god forbid those cheerleaders do anything but express shame about their own bodies when they're NOT shaking their asses

AneNoz -> RE: Breast Cancer T-Shirts for Cheerleaders (10/18/2011 8:50:40 PM)

I have said the school was inside its rights, this is not at issue. No law was breeched. The question is not of legality, but moreover was the decision the correct one, and it was not, as it was based on a lie which runs counter to the spirit and intent of this country.

Yes. This is the facade of which I speak.

At a school function, like it or not, the SCHOOL administration DOES in fact govern the dress of the kids representing them. You can't say that it's okay for the kids who don't think they are appropriate to have an opinion on them and then post what you have above about kids who think they are inappropriate.   You either aportion the same value of kids opinions or you disregard them all.

The KIDS whether they think the shirts are appropriate or not, did not make the decision as to whether or not they can be worn, so to imply these kids are somehow responsible for governing what the school decided.

angel

You've missed my fundamental point. The school officials have a right to dress themselves as they see fit, just as the kids and the parents and the crossing guards do. What they don't have is a moral right to do is dress others as they see fit. The kids' sense of propriety should govern their own dress, as should every other human being. The kids' opinions are just as important as the administrators - which is to say, unsurpassably important with regard to their own clothes, and utterly irrelevant with regard to the clothes of others.

my daughter's school had a dress code. She either followed it or could be suspended.

My work had a dress code. We had meetings on it every single week because someone wasn't wearing the correct attire which made the boss yell at us all and threaten us with being written up.

We could either follow the dress code or be fired.

I don't see how either of these have anything at all to do with freedom of speech. It's simply about there is a time and a place for everything and within private property...the school and my work....they can set up whatever rules they like. You either accept them or you don't and accept the consequences. Simple.

Est ergo debeat fallacy. I swear 'est ergo debeat' could be the motto of these forums...

woah you're going to have to explain yourself if you use big words like that. what is an an ego deadbeat fallacy and why do you say she did one of those?

AneNoz -> RE: Breast Cancer T-Shirts for Cheerleaders (10/18/2011 9:06:44 PM)

It is meaning that a thing is by virtue of that it should be. Est ergo debeat it is Latin meaning - should therefore is.

xxblushesxx -> RE: Breast Cancer T-Shirts for Cheerleaders (10/18/2011 9:08:28 PM)

But it's not.

Facts do get in the way of a good debate, don't they?

In what way is it not?

If you read the link in the OP you'll see that your "should" does not equal anyone's "is".
Silly stuff like how the girls' story turned out, how the laws in our country work, just itty bitty stuff like that.

Since you don't live here, and barely speak the language, you really are not in a position to judge. But thanks for playing. Next time you would like to take your High English and try to subtly insult the people of the site in the country you are insulting, you might think twice. Brainiac you ain't sweet cheeks. Nothing but a pot stirrer.

AneNoz -> RE: Breast Cancer T-Shirts for Cheerleaders (10/18/2011 9:28:36 PM)

I indeed do live in America, and it is my intent to remain and become a citizen. I have not insulted with intent, it is not in my nature to insult people and I do not see what I have said that can be so construed. Yet if you have found an insult in my words, I apologize.

You do not make sense, if you but wish to hint and play at answers, there is no purpose to be served in discussing with you these things. If you do wish to discuss, then answer with clarity that I might know your meaning and thus engage your thought and thus respond.

Yeah, no guy will say in that locker room... "Damn I'd feel for Julie's lumps."

I'm well aware that they would - but my point was that these are the same guys who make lewd comments about the cheerleaders in their normal attire ... but that doesn't mean that they are groping them at random - so what is the difference?  While I haven't been to a high school sporting event in years, the last time I was, the cheerleaders wore skirts that barely covered their butts, and shirts that showed their mid-riff that were skin tight.  So what makes a shirt with a risque slogan worse than being 1/2 dressed?

I don't know, a basic cheerleader uniform where I went to school wasn't as gracious with showing the skin as the MTV movies depict.

Regardless, I would see a message that asks to "feel them" as worse than the uniform.  Unless you're one of those people that think girls wearing miniskirts are just asking for it.

You obviously don't know my posting history if you would suggest that I think "girls wearing miniskirts are just asking for it."

I"ll be honest, the cheerleaders in the picture posted are wearing a good deal more than the cheerleaders at my high school - and none of them wore a leotard under their outfits.  It was the top (football had long sleeved and short sleeved versions - basketball versions were short sleeved or sleeveless), the bloomers, and a skirt that was a good 2-4 inches shorter than the ones in the picture appear to be.

My point, which appears to be repeatedly missed and/or deliberately twisted, is that even when the girls are wearing their skimpy outfits, the guys aren't going around groping them because they have some flesh showing.  Yes, guys can be pigs, and guys that age forget which head to think with on an alarmingly regular basis - but I don't think that the average male is going to be dumb enough to take the shirt as an excuse to grope someone that they didn't already have a "groping" relationship with.  And if they did - well, it's going to be the same type of asshole who would do it even without the shirt.
