Lucylastic -> 20,000 in new york OWS (10/15/2011 11:17:06 PM)

Im using Huff Po as its got lots of off links to more info and pics, as they are taking it more seriously than fox, who had one article on it , their lead was about the violence in Rome, which mysteriously lost words from the official AP story, There is video also.SOme great marches from all around the world and so little violence from the protestors at least.

NEW YORK, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Thousands of anti-Wall Street protesters rallied in New York's Times Square on Saturday, buoyed by a global day of demonstrations in support of their month long campaign against corporate greed.

Inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement, protests on Saturday started in Asia and rippled through Europe back to the United States and Canada. Protesters fed up with economic inequality took to the streets in cities from Washington, Boston and Chicago to Los Angeles, Miami and Toronto.
After weeks of intense media coverage, the size of the U.S. protests on Saturday have been smaller than G20 meetings or political conventions yielded in recent years. Such events often draw tens of thousands of demonstrators.

In New York, where the movement began when protesters set up camp in a Lower Manhattan park on Sept. 17, organizers said the protest grew to at least 5,000 people as they marched to Times Square from their makeshift outdoor headquarters.

"These protests are already making a difference," said Jordan Smith, 25, a former substance abuse counselor from San Francisco, who joined the New York protest. "The dialogue is now happening all over the world."

FWIW, I feel not a small amount of pride, as I was the originator of #OccupyTimesSquare back on Thursday night while we were discussing "Where should we go if we get kicked from the park..."

So much for "Some Big Org Controls Them!"

Toying with the idea of accelerating my medical trip to New York just to spend some time there....yes their message is a little garbled...but can any society survive, healthily, when the top 1% posses more wealth than the bottom 90%?
Can a society be considered healthy when 90% of the population is considered the bottom ?

No, to answer your question, history is rife with examples.

Oh, fabulous.

But it's just dandy when the congress Urinates on it each and every day they're in session, right?
Which is what it means when you arrive in office on a majoraty of votes from the electorate of ONE STATE and then sign a contract with a guy who isn't even FROM your state.... it's pissing on the flag, it's pissing on the constitution. In a MUCH more serious fashion.

I mean so long as one party or the other gets to point a finger get to point a finger.

Translation - The Tea Party are now really woried they have an extinction event with their name on it

They usually show up in the middle hundreds unless the Koch Brothers spend a few Million on bus charters and they advertise for a good month. This thing yesterday was adhoc, most people being aware of the event less than 5 days. The republican convention might be a little sweaty next year if this keeps up ... and the Democrats need to think very carefully about what kind of party they want to be as well.
