Yes it does stay in place. Most of my stuff at this point is from Loreal and very reasonably priced.  (Originally I bought online and it was much more expensive.)





ooooo I may have a winner. What about eyeliner and mascara? I have yet to find a brand that doesn't smear even though it is supposed to be smudge proof.

You need liquid eyeliner.

Try Almay Intense Eye Color. I use a brown topaz, so you can see how it works with my bronze mascara from Revlon.

This stuff will smear all over to hell and back until it is dry, so if you have deepset eyes such as mine it is an issue. Once it dries it's there until I remove it.

Also, you really may want to forego mascara all together.

My minimal makeup look is concealer for under my eyes, eyeliner fairly thick and close to top lashes, powder foundation to even out color tones, and lipstick.

I don't look as polished as with full make up, but it's easy to repair and the liner lasts til I remove it, so it's one option I use.

Status: offline 		I do, I love it. You can buy cheaper mineral makeup, but bare minerals is still my favorite. Their starter kit is great, and they provide good instruction,
I am 52, and don't have many wrinkles. But, I liquid foundation looks cakey and makes me look older. The mineral makeup doesn't do that.
So anybody done juvaderm? I was thinking about trying it.

YES! Have you ever seen some of those models without make-up? Some (not all) look hideous and if you saw them on the street without make-up you wouldnt know it was them.

That said, I do wear make-up at times and other times no make-up. When i do wear make-up i do it very well, people can notice i am wearing it but it looks nice, fairly subtle and i dont plaster it on. I just know what colors and techniques look best on me and i always have.

I as far as mineral make-up- i have tried bare minerals but too costly! So i buy Prestige skin loving Minerals from CVS $10 each. For me they last a long time. I use one shade over all and a lighter shade for spot coverage, etc..

Orrrr... if ya'll want to make your own mineral makeup, you can google and find the ingredient and recipes online too. I have not done that yet tho, I just know that i have seen that online... for those adventurous types..

No matter how much they claim they dont smudge, I have not found any eye liner that works for me, they all smudge and i end up looking like a raccoon..

i am using a gel right now but I have to be really careful not to put too much on but then i dont get the look i like... i have dark brown eyes and love the look of eyeliner on me..

Status: offline 		blarg....Ok to the op. I wear a lot of makeup. If you want to know why...it's because I like it. I don't do it because of what t.v.s says or what the public thinks(as someone else said) I do it because I like drawing on myself. I like being a little more out there as far as what I look like(perhaps I should go find some pictures and put them on the profile so people know the difference) If you don't like it...thats cool. My father hates makeup, the sub girl thinks I look amazing the more I put on, the livein thinks I look amazing if I have on a lot or none. It's just a matter of opinion that differs from person to person.

About mineral makeup...I hate it. It makes me feel chalky and most of them make my skin itch. Which shocks me because bare sort of sounds like it shouldn't do that...at least to me.

I might decide to go that way for concealer and foundation. I have dark under eye shadows and mix a tad of green concealer in with the foundation color, then use powder foundation to set it.

If I am doing what I would consider a full professional makeup, I add a bit of yellow concealer to my foundation, it tones down my ruddiness (which seems to be an age thing for me).

I buy most of my makeup at the CVS as well. Good prices and great coupons if you shop wisely. Then I fill in with Lancome or Estee Launder when they have their free gifts. I get great eye shadow and lipstick that way as well as travel size mascara. The only down side is the mascara is all black.

Mineral makeup is a less is more kind of thing. As lily said, go slow and build. And after a certain age, you DO need a great foundation of moisturizer.

ETA:
From your pics you look like you have fantastic skin. If you are into the makeup look, really mineral may not be the way to go for you.

I use it specifically b/c I can keep it very toned down and still get some basic coverage and enhancement.

ETA: Well fuck me, that was for Miss Immortal (Your nick always makes me think of the Evanescence tune, BTW)

Sorry Lilly, I missed this. Yep I've tried 'em all, I end up looking like a raccoon with all of them. I think I'll just give up on mascara and do without, as Chatte suggested.

I'm very much a "less is enough" kinda girl so I'm getting curious about that mineral stuff. I think I'll have a talk with one of the girls who works in the pharmacy where I buy makeup and see what she suggests.

Take care of your skin and do your best to make a great canvas for the makeup.

Status: offline 		I did try a little at first. Just had a horrid reaction to it for some reason. Which I don't really understand because I used to be very "goth" and have been known to draw on myself with sharpies from time to time. I guess some people just have different reactions to different things. I do normally have very nice skin, though it doesn't like cold very much.

To give a male POV to the OP's original thoughts, I would say that in the day to day, most women try for some natural looking enhancement. When this is poorly done it can look worse than no make up at all, for the variety of reasons already stated.
I used to be a punk, have many goth friends and the girls can look terrific.
There is no attempt at a realism, some take an Egyptian goddess, Maori or geisha as a template and I find it most attractive.
In private, some ladies like to apply heavily as part of the ritual when putting their play head on.
For whatever reason, while it may be a little confusing, I can't get angry about how someone desires to present themselves to the world. Why should they have to conform to suit you?

Status: offline 		My collection of makeup is...large. we won't go into the why, let's just say I own a lot, but rarely use it. I put on a few layers for a shoot yesterday, and almost didn't feel like myself!

I have the L'oreal mineral stuff, but the product doesn't suit my skin. I love the airy feel,but it comes off chalky. I prefer compact foundation, Clinique City Base, it's easy to layer and blend.

I was a teen in the 70's, the age of blue eyeshadow and Final net! The fresh-scrubbed look was in, and I never got the habit of preening. I made up for it, though, and had some ghastly color episodes! (Black & silver eyeshadow!) Ilove getting tarted up for clubs, and being all elegant for social events still. [image][/image]

I know, I wonder about myself at times too. Once I wore a pair of striped pants that looked great at home, then I caught a glance of myself out on the street and went promptly home and threw the pants in the trash. It was awful, lol.

It is a mystery why people don't see what is painfully obvious to others. I had an elderly neighbor who used to cake on makeup and wear all black clothing with her hair severely pulled back. She looked like a caricature of a witch. She was very friendly though, and whenever we chatted she'd often remark on how the day she wasn't in fashion, she'd certainly want to die. So somewhere in her mind, her look was very fashionable. I never understood that, but she was happy with herself, I guess that's all that matters.
