Why do females put so much paint on their faces that they look like seventeenth century decrepit paintings? Is it because they are too ugly to show their true face? I am willing to ignore or even to take note of a bit of modest paint. But I swear that if not for assault laws, that I would have liked to attack many a female overly painted face with a high power water jet from a firetruck fire-hose. (No, that is not kinky.)

What do you consider "overly" painted? Yes I see some women who wear a lot of makeup because they need the help. I see some women who simply do not know how to apply makeup. I see some women who really should wear more makeup. I see some women who to me wear too much but to another they think it's fine.

The man and I were just discussing this on the way home from the grocery store today, I was telling him about the mascara thread. He is another one of those males who wants to take a heavily made up female and hold her under the shower for awhile so he can see what she really looks like. Personally, I do not wear makeup in my day to day life; I use it primarily for professional or social engagements. I have also noted that as I have aged, I need to cut back on the makeup, as opposed to piling more on in an attempt to hide the wrinkles or age spots or whatever. The very best makeup in the world is a genuine smile and a spark in the eye that says I'm happy to see you. Plain Jane Chatte

this is why i like mineral foundation; it has a naturally occurring sunscreen, and it doesn't take away the natural, clear look of a make-up-free face. i mostly use it for the sunscreen properties and to even out some small areas of uneven tone. uneven tone can be a big problem for people with darker skin, when you're out in the sun a lot. mineral makeup also gives you the option to build up -- so i use it in stage applications, too, and it works just fine for me. now i do loooove intense/bright eyeshadows; i think that's a carry-over from dance. sometimes, just to have fun, i'll wear out some ridiculously bright eyeshadow just for the heck of it. most of my make-up is reserved for stage or particular social engagements. i don't generally wear it every day. ETA: i don't have a problem with what other people do with their faces. if they have too much makeup on, well maybe they like the look. it's a simple way of customizing yourself, like dyeing your hair blue or getting your nose pierced.

I love the mineral makeup, although it is drying to my skin. I need a thick layer of moisturizer or it just lays there like a makeup blanket (not a good look). The mineral eyeshadow is the bomb. Once applied, it stays in place. At this point I've switched over to all mineral makeup except for eye makeup. I have too many shades of mascara (I love a bright blue), eyeshadow, and liner. I've heard about a product you can buy that will turn any color eyeshadow into liner, though I have never tried it. Has anyone else heard of it a/o tried it? Dang I don't ever remember the brand name. I'd like that if it works well. I have to line my upper eye or my deep set eyes disappear behind my glasses. And yeah, I love playing with exotic eye shadow just for fun. I love a "smokey" eye.

I have two theories. One, the heavily made up faces we see on the make-up commercials and magazine ads. They look beautiful in controlled conditions, applied by professionals, under tv or photography lighting. On "real" people in everyday lighting, not so much. Two, those of us over 40, some of us way over 40, tend to lose our close-up vision and we attempt to apply the make-up without our reading glasses on, and we just can't see the end results very clearly. [:o] For this reason, I don't wear much anymore, lol.

the mineral foundation i use is by everyday minerals, but i've been to their site and they no longer have the tone that i could use. basically everything else there (eyeshadows and such) only works for the lightest of the light skin tones. =p so time to shop around... but it was REALLY cheap, and really quality stuff.

Bare minerals-over priced for what it is. Don't go near HD film or cameras that flash, or you'll see anything and everything you've tried to cover up. (The last bit is applied to any and all types of mineral makeup) The overly made up thing, I have done this myself with huge regret. I was modeling back to back and was in the photoshoot makeup mode. Skin needs to look ridiculously perfect in HD photos, in real life, I looked like ceramic. No bueno. I wear tinted moisturizer (lotion with just a bit of liquid foundation) and light powder to even myself out.

I've wondered over the years why some people don't seem to see themselves as others do. The guy with the scary combover, the obese woman in the skintight clothing, the young men with the pants down to their ankles....what's up with all of that? Why is it that they look in the mirror and see awesomeness where others drop their mouths and see a huge faux pas. I don't know why there is this disconnect except to figure in the individual perception of what constitutes beauty or manliness. Something I read about Donald Trump's hairstyle was that it must remind him of a time when he was powerful and at the height of his game. Because to the rest of us, it simply looks ridiculous, but for himself, it is how he chooses to present himself. For a woman and makeup, all I can figure is that heavily made-up woman must base her own personal perception of beauty on that of TV, magazines, media, and thinks that is how she looks the best. She sees the unadorned self as being inferior according to how she perceives things.

See the above post to TFWM. I rub my eyes as well, so I need smear proof stuff. And with deep set eyes eyeliner is just way too crucial. No one has used this stuff? I might have to be the eyeliner pioneer of CM. Oh, the burden !!

I enjoy mineral foundation -- i haven't used the other mineral stuff, well no, i've used the "glow/bronzer" I hate liquid foundation as i can't stand feeling it on my face. Right now, i am using the colorstay aqua by revlon. It's interesting lol. You can actually feel the hydration in it. It feels okay on my skin bt i have such sensitive skin, i usually feel anything on it but this is one of the few things i can wear without wanting to scratch it off. Also, if people have bad skin, it could attest to the overmade up faces, they are trying to coverup what they feel is bad -- i.e., acne, spots, freckles etc. Nowadays, i think bold colors are in for eyes and mouths and so people overdue that during the day. But in the harsh light of day, it makes it look overly done, when the night lights and shadows allow for a more made up look. angel

After decades of using liquid foundation which, in the 70s, tended to turn orange after a couple hours (yikes!) Bare Minerals was a welcome change. I don't wear eye make up too much anymore, but I'll brush on some Bare Minerals foundation and blush for work and that's it. I had gone to Ulta and had a cosmetician help me find the perfect shade and teach me how to use it.
